Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

I have more confessions :( I bought a shift dress in a gorgeous in dark periwinkle and matching cardigan in the w.stuff sale! It was £54 all in. I just love the colour of it. I have been even ' more' bad ... bought a pair of cropped jeans, ones i had my eye on that have frayed hems. They werent expensive at £25 in the sale..and lastly.. I ordered a purple metallic saddle bag from the Zatchels sale. Oh for the love of God i really need help!!! :/

Greengardenpixie · 11/08/2014 19:03

Did you enjoy having your grandson?
The weather has been poor here and i start back at work tomorrow...at least i cant spend there!!! :)

Laska42 · 11/08/2014 19:25

ok Green Tough love time

Its time to think what you want... (I know I stuggle also and am not good myself). but I also know that buying when I have a rammed wardrobe full of things I wear very little is not making happy.. I do know that im weak, and that I love new things.

I also know that my lovely DH doesnt help (as he has a bit of a fashion thing also) , likes to see me in lovely things and loves the fact that I now - after losing a lot of weight (he never minded me larger) - have the figure to wear them again, (and also that I enjoy looking good). But I have so many lovely things already). I also know that we really cannot afford it me to carry on like this either..

But I started this (despite the fact I have failed a bit so far) because I have also reached the stage when I also know that these constant purchases are getting out of control and that having new things is not going to make me happier andI really cannot afford to carry on (even though im not yet in such dire straights I cannot afford nice new things) .

But to be quite frank the constant buying is making me feel out of control and I dont like that.

Now as for you.. if it does make you happy, you can afford it and its not impacting on how you feel about yourself then its not a problem, and you are not a bad person for doing so.. but if it does and if we are going to stop buying everything we fancy we just Have to Stop..
(love Laska xx Smile)

(having said that I enjoy looking good, i went to work today in linen crops and a cheesecloth shirt.. wasnt really a good look for the office , but I was to tired after my hectic weekend with DGS to think about it this morning)

OP posts:
Laska42 · 11/08/2014 19:29

Great weekend with DGS, he seemed fine and happy to be with just us (without his mum ) We went to the beach - he went in the sea.. found that a bit of an experience ,( but loved it once he had worked it out) , we played football in the garden and got the tent out .. He slept really well but I'm still exhausted - had forgotten just how much of a live wire 19mth olds are! ..

Greengardenpixie · 11/08/2014 19:34

You are totally right. I cant afford it in any case. I feel bad about it..but i love clothes and i love looking good too and its so bloody hard!! I need some hobby tbh. Something that takes me away from buying things.

Greengardenpixie · 11/08/2014 19:38

So glad you had a lovely time. My kids love the beach. Its always so bloody cold though!! The best time is when the sea goes out and there are pools of warm water. We were at the beach about 3 wks ago. I loved it. Im still finding sand in the car!!!
19 months..yes you need eyes at the back of your head!!! My dd has just been caught climbing up a shelf in her brothers room!! She is 3!!

Laska42 · 11/08/2014 19:55

I think we need to think about creating Our Own fashion looks with what we have rather than aping the style sold to us in the (WS , Boden , Cos, Toast, FF, Mint velvet, Jigsaw , Net-a -porter (FFS dont look at them ..!!), Whistles etc catalogues , websites and style blogs ..

They are in the business of selling us a 'lifestyle' look, of course they have to as that is how they survive .. But we dont owe them our loyalty.. we are ok as we are (completely acceptable and stylish, as we have been buying all those things like mad) at least for a while.. (assuming of course we dont go totally BHS woman! Grin ..

Greengardenpixie · 11/08/2014 20:31

CoconutAmericano · 12/08/2014 18:06

Good for you laska.

tomorrow i am returning shoes and a dress i bought in june but never wore. I may only get credit notes for them but i am relieved they wont be taking up space in my wardrobe, looking at me, all guiltily..

Laska42 · 12/08/2014 18:27

I think it depends where they were from coconut I was surprised to be refunded today from House of Fraser for the cardi I sent back last week (even though it was over the date for cash refunds ..)

If you get credit notes dont spend them until September!!
(or better still save them to buy someone a Christmas present! )

Have just got back from holiday in France. Bought some perfume on the boat but nothing else for myself the whole time we were there. The holiday was all about simple pleasures and family time and it felt good not to be internet shopping which is my weakness.

Am back at work but still taking odd days leave here and there to manage DC summer hols. I have a couple of confessions since my return: A pair of neon pink kitten heels in the Boden clearance and a Boden shirt for work with 20% off. Seen various other A/W bits I like but I have shown some restraint.

I need to spend some money on the house and so need to stop frittering disposable income.

I like the idea of creating outfits from what we already have. Going to think about new ways of putting together different items I have.

LightastheBreeze · 12/08/2014 20:38

Yes I am trying to wear some of my less loved and forgotten stuff. Today I am wearing a pair of Boden wide leg trousers from about 3 years back which I bought in the sale and then didn't wear them that much, with a Next polo shirt about the same age which had its label still on Blush. it all looks OK though so will wear both more.

I wear brogue type shoes or boots under them as i usually wear cords in the Autumn/Winter. They don't seem to go with summer shoes, well mine don't anyway as they are all wintery colours.
