Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

(A tyrant ain't I? Grin

spring you are right (losing weight has been one of the problems of my clothes spending I think) ..

I managed no spend today..but picked up my Top Shop shorts order that were featured in the the Guardian last week .. may not keep them (as im not sure they make my 90%+ ok rule of keepability) but will decide after weekend..

Ill not be around now probably until Monday (unless i get a short spare mo) have DGS (19months) down for weekend (without his mum -we ve had him stay before on his own so he should be fine ) ..Looking forward to haveing a baby all to myself again!!..

Wore my Boden Nancy riviera print skirt , boden yellow vest top , a (v old) Wallis turquoise short sleeve cardi, and navy flats (felt very 1950s and got several compliments today)

All weekend ill be wearing practical clothes for dealing with toddler..Smile

SpringItOn · 07/08/2014 22:43

I was bad enough before I lost weight, after I lost the first 1.5 stone I went mad! Then I lost another half a stone..... Had to buy more...... Then as is the case with 5:2 although I'd not lost much more I lost inches and none of my new stuff from last summer fits so guess what? I had to buy more!
I'm still hanging on to some of the 'half a stone heavier stuff' just in case as I often put weight on in the winter when I'm not as active. My four double wardrobes and eight drawer chest are bulging but I feel sad at losing money selling second hand which is ridiculous as its only sat in there, taking up space.

I had a really bad experience at a clothes exchange party where I took loads of beautiful stuff and everybody else took a right load of old tat. They were well chuffed........ I was Sad

We are now only 8 days into No Spend August. I started early on 23rd July so bit longer for me.

I have not bought any clothes yet. It seems like a veerrryyy long time since I shopped, but obviously it hasn't been. Stay strong everyone!!

autumnsmum · 08/08/2014 20:17

Managed another day

HalleLouja · 10/08/2014 09:05

Now on day 10. Am looking at underwear which I need but not really tempted apart from that.

autumnsmum · 10/08/2014 09:52

I've failed! Ordered a seasalt rain mac as it had free p&p , I do
Need a waterproof for schoolruns as I have a primark parka that leaks

Karbea · 10/08/2014 10:27

I'm still going strong, haven't been tempted by anything, but if the weather continues to be wet and colder I might be tempted to start thinking about winter clothes...

Im not doing too badly. I have bought some cosmetics/henna/sun block etc because I'm off on holiday soon. These items were excluded from my no spend aug. I haven't bought any clothes in quite a few days now. Not totally innocent but very good for me!! Smile

Well....mmmm....i bought some pyjamas and slippers from next. A top and a couple of trousers for work [ although im returning a pair] may even return both, cant decide yet. I dont have that many work trousers really so am still debating what to keep. I also bought a pair of bootcut cords which are great for the Autumn. I got a shirt from toast in their sale and thats it so have kind of fallen off the wagon tbh. Im on and off with spending tbh. However, i know that i need to save so i just wont be able to spend as my holiday for next year is growing arms and legs and we are now taking the car and touring parts of Europe on our way to visit relatives. My dh is beside himself with excitment! Spending on other things thus is to be curtailed boo hoo :(

masterprocrastinator · 10/08/2014 19:55

You are right MrsWolowitz, this is tough. I am sorely tempted by some autumn ankle boots today. A few days ago it was a top shop hoodie, I resisted, and the need to buy passed on by like a cloud in the sky. This time I might cave in.

KiaOraOAotearoa · 10/08/2014 20:06

Day 10 and not a penny spent...so far!

Apatite1 · 10/08/2014 23:11

Still good but I've already eyed up a few things for September LOL.

macandcheesewithbaconbits · 11/08/2014 07:07

I ordered in brora sale on impulse, something I've always wanted and lusted after. Particularly in the winter. A shearling gilet, it was less than half price. I feel so guilty now can't decide if I should return it.
It is a beautiful classic..

dexter73 · 11/08/2014 07:37

I have a Brora shearling gilet. I absolutely love it. Keep it!

macandcheesewithbaconbits · 11/08/2014 09:26

Thanks Dexter....it is a piece of beauty. I am sure I would wear it loads, hard to think now in the summer.

WillPenn · 11/08/2014 13:24

Can I join? I also have a bit of a clothes-buying habit. I bought a Whistles leather jacket from eBay on 4th August (it was new, and I got it for £80, and it is a perfect fit, and I didn't own a leather jacket....) but I am determined to make it through August, if not September as well, without buying anything.

MacandCheese - don't feel too bad about the shearling gilet. I bought one at Xmas and wore and wore it all winter. They are so warm and cosy - nothing beats them.

macandcheesewithbaconbits · 11/08/2014 13:51

Thanks willpenn Wink

I own a whistles leather jacket and I love it. Wear it with everything. Sounds like a bargain buy

masterprocrastinator · 11/08/2014 16:18

Fallen/jumped off the wagon. Bought a dress in a second hand store. I have so many dresses already - sales assistant asked if I was attending a wedding or some such Blush. Er, no. Will probably just wear it to work or something, if at all. Trying to find something to chuck out (1 in 1 out rule) but it seems I am a hoarder too Hmm Will not fess up to this purchase in RL. Gah.

Laska42 · 11/08/2014 18:03

Hi again.. well i havent bought anything more since last week .. and am sending the Top Shop shorts back as the pattern is nice but the fabric awful.. .

Also have sold 5 things from my wardrobe on ebay . That feels good, so im going to sort out some more to list .. Actually i dont think i want anything at the moment .. Have thrown away all my catalogues as they have come and unsubscribed to all clothes websites.. I started August off not too well, but feeling like im getting into the swing of it now..

(I did manage to get 2 tickets for the Benedict Cumberbatch Hamlet production next year in the public sale day today - after a horrendous wait though)

green garden Stick with us!! Think of that holiday..

Mac I have a shearling gilet bought from Celtic and co a few years ago.. its a thing of beauty, but sadly although i also lusted after one for a few years I dont wear that much .. It seems like the weather is never quite right..(either too cold or rainy in the winter ).. I may even ebay it in the winter .

masterprocrastinator yes ..something out!

OP posts:
Greengardenpixie · 11/08/2014 18:35

Laska...i am totally with you on the gilet front. I have a whitestuff fur one..not quite a shearling but lovely never the less and guess what? I never wear it..and for what reason? The weather is never really right. Its too wet or too cold. I just cant find an opportunity to wear it and when there is, it doesnt go with my outfit. It has sat in my wardrobe for a year now...it has been a high price, sale price and will again im sure will be on the w.s. website or one similar.

Laska42 · 11/08/2014 18:51

green I also have a Fat Face one (knitted lined, bought off ebay ! ) which i do wear a lot ,( mostly in the garden LoL..) The shearling one just either seems too impractical or too nice for what im doing
