Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

(A tyrant ain't I? Grin

Some still do but it has changed and it will be very bad for your ratings which could have an impact on your sellers account. People will givevyou poor ratings for postage and ebay will set all sort of sanctions on your account. Dont be afraid of auctions. My advice, put a cheap thing on to get a flavour of how it works.Grin

CoconutAmericano · 06/08/2014 10:16

THanks green i don't really understand though! Like if i say p+p is free and i price the dress at fifty quid and they buy it for fifty, everything is clear and upfront no? There would be no extra charges for the buyer.

Greengardenpixie · 06/08/2014 13:53

Sorry, i misread. I thought you were adding money into the postage. What you are suggesting is fine. You mean add the money into the cost of the item...thats absolutely fine!! :)

CoconutAmericano · 06/08/2014 14:41

Thanks, that's great. I really think i could raise some money this way. Halo still in place Smile

masterprocrastinator · 06/08/2014 15:32

Well done Coconut - let's stay strong everyone Grin.

I'm trying not to let potential purchases get under my skin and snag at my consciousness - 'buy me!' Like some magic potion to complete my wardrobe desires - I just have to not go there. When I start imagining scenarios in which I am wearing said item - that way lies doom.

Today I am wearing white fat face vest, white vintage Ghost vest, pale wash Next boy fit jeans and white saltwater sandals. Enjoying my outfit!

dexter73 · 06/08/2014 15:34

Greengardenpixie - how was the jacket you got earlier?

Greengardenpixie · 06/08/2014 15:59

It is gorgeous!! Really very pleased with it. It looks rubbish on the website on the model as it looks very sack like but on a normal human it looks lovely and classy!

dexter73 · 06/08/2014 16:02

Oh good! It's always nice to pick something you know you will wear loads.

Pollywallywinkles · 06/08/2014 20:08

One of my cats has been diagnosed with diabetes this week, so there will NOT be any more spending this month as I have a large vets bill.

LightastheBreeze · 06/08/2014 20:46

Every time I think to buy something I am telling myself, it is just more of the same, it's just clothes, it will just fill the wardrobe, I don't need it, I've got loads of stuff the same. More stuff will be there next month, and more and more I will drown in clothes , they won't wear out quick enough to replace with more stuff.

Greengardenpixie · 06/08/2014 21:12

Well laska..what can i say? i am as guilty as you lol!!!
Lightasbreeze, i say these things to myself but the problem is the thing im looking at nags at me.
I am wearing wide leg jeans in dark wash from next. The beautiful white stuff top that i got for £10 in willow green. Its lovely :) On my feet i have.......my crocs!!! Its the only item i will wear out!!!

masterprocrastinator · 06/08/2014 22:06

Laska, yes, we are addicts. It's kind of amusing but not, iykwim, because it sounds so addict-lite to be shopaholic, and maybe it is dismissed because it is such a first-world or affluent female problem. We will just have to help each other, remember that tough love? I am always one step away from the next ridiculous purchase Sad

LightastheBreeze · 06/08/2014 22:26

The thing is I'm trying so hard with this clothes thing, I've started on the house. Now planning carpets, kitchen floor and new freezer, we do need some stuff but I'm getting obsessed. It's taking my mind off looking at the clothes though. I've also been known to buy stuff thinking I won't keep it and then taking it back. I think that is called shopping bulimia

andsmile · 07/08/2014 07:54

So far I've planned DS room and Dininng room.

Kitchen accessories - oooo spend ages looking through these!

andsmile · 07/08/2014 08:24

Practical

Cut up your cards
De-register your cards from paypal/sites
De-register emails about special offers and sales
Move cash from current account to an ISA
Do a budget on spreadsheet
Write a list of all the things you could do if you saved your money
Take a book to work for lunch or arrange a lunch date
Write a list of all the items you have
Are you even buying the correct things for your shape (this rules out a few things)
Do a colour analysis - demotivate buying seasonal trends that dont suit you
Go through your wardrobe - do you where what you have anyway
Go through your wardrobe and see what you can customise/mend
Go through your wardrobe experiment with different outfits - feel new then
What else could I change aboutu my appearance - nails, hair, makeup?

Psychological

MSE Mantra - Do I need it?, Can I afford it?, Will I wear it?, Is it worth it?
Will this make me feel guilty in the morning?
Do you 'own fashion' or does it 'own you'?

This has helped me immensely - I plan intentional purchases, live purposefully. I struggle with clothes but this blog has helped me let go of so much:

www.becomingminimalist.com/a-practical-guide-to-owning-fewer-clothes/

SpringItOn · 07/08/2014 20:33

Bought a skirt yesterday. I was in a 'sod it' mood.

My defence M'Lord:

It was in the sale

I have 3 tops it will go with.

I go on holiday on Saturday

And finally and most importantly:

It was a size 8! Smile and it fitted beautifully (Laska you're a long term 5:2er too aren't you?)

autumnsmum · 07/08/2014 20:57

I've managed another no spend day

adviceforme · 07/08/2014 21:09

DD wanted a jacket and I sort of picked the jumper up too,,,,,,,,,,,,,

adviceforme · 07/08/2014 21:24
