Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

(A tyrant ain't I? Grin

Well my body definately isn't ready but I'd never go anywhere if I waited for that.

We haven't had a break like this for about 6 years so I've no idea what I already have or if it still fits.

CoconutAmericano · 05/08/2014 11:50

Omg peaches go!! Firstly go up and raid your wardrobe. I am sure you will find loads of suitable outfits and pool side wear. I am not beach ready either (going to spain next week) but im hoping a spray tan takes the edge off Grin

Apatite1 · 05/08/2014 11:50

Don't think twice, go peaches!

mirpuppet · 05/08/2014 11:54

Thanks, it's all booked. DH is often spontaneous but when he is, you just have to roll with it. I would have preferred to go somewhere else consider all options, but it will be a lovely break. We are only going for 4 days so I should be able to use what I've got.

I need to rummage through my clothes and then you can talk me through my plans for what to pack!

PeachandBlack · 05/08/2014 12:23

Should say DH isn't often spontaneous.

PeachandBlack · 05/08/2014 13:13

Result, I have a swimsuit and I've unearthed a sarong. In a ideal world I would prefer a beach kaftan/dress thing but I haven't got time to go shopping and I'm trying not to spend! The place is fairly casual.

We are going early on Thursday and coming home Monday morning, so this is what I plan to take for 4 days.

swimsuit and sarong

3 dresses, plain navy, blue printed, red printed. I will wear the red one to travel in with a cardigan, it's suitable for day or evening so I can wash it and wear it another time.

2 pairs denim shorts - I would love a loose floaty pair in a black or blue print but hey-ho.

3 cami tops - plain green, green print, ivory.

1 linen t shirt - will probably wear with shorts and cardigan to travel home in.

3 pairs of shoes - tan flip floppy things, navy pumps, orange pumps

bag - either a tan or navy cross body thing that I can convert into a clutch bag plus a tote bag for the plane and for pool/beach/waterpark stuff

I am debating whether to take another dress (a maxi) or a blue sleeveless blouse. In my head, the top will look nice with shorts and my orange pumps but I'm not sure how that will translate on me.

Any suggestions?

PeachandBlack · 05/08/2014 13:14

I also need a pedicure and to get my eyebrows done!

Greengardenpixie · 05/08/2014 16:55

Sounds like you have done well with your packing :) Nice and simple!
I never do my eyebrows and my feet do need attention :(
Laska, i sold the dress for £50..so not bad at all :)

Greengardenpixie · 05/08/2014 18:14

Ok so i thought you might be interested but i spoke to a lady councillor [ i go regularly about my previous work issues ] about my shopping habit addiction
She gave me a few things to try. I thought i would share with you: She said she feels it may be largely down to boredom that i do it [ kind of agree]
She said...if its online shopping..dont go on the computer unless its purposeful and i am doing something useful [like for work].
So thats step 1. Say STOP and do something like baking, like laska's sewing etc... be aware that it is boredom that leads you on to the computer and doing this..so change the action.
Step 2, is the mantra i was after and here it is.
Stop - As above.
Think -As above.
If you do get sucked in...and am about to purchase you need to give yourself 3 good reasons to purchase it If i cant, then wait until tomorrow and see how you feel. This will avoid shopping on impulse.
So thats it...all common sense!!

masterprocrastinator · 05/08/2014 18:54

Apatite (wail) I love to shop for my fantasy life, fitting in with reality, not so good, I dress to escape. As if the school run ( and work) is my walk of shame Blush.
Peach I think the top sounds versatile, have a lovely time Envy
Greengarden this is sage advice, stepping away and replacing, acknowledging.
For today I am still smugly wearing my halo.

Greengardenpixie · 05/08/2014 19:08

Well done masterprocrastinator!!! :) Keep it up :)

autumnsmum · 05/08/2014 19:25

Managed to not buy clothes today either

andsmile · 05/08/2014 19:32

I have not bought anything despite eyeing a few things in Next (so glad I got rid of my account card).

I moved this months persona allowance into a seperate account - I keep loking at it on my banking app - it makes me smug to know I have resisted...but also confess if I want to buy the v expensive snow boots come October - I can if I leave it, and I wont have to compromise.

Laska42 · 05/08/2014 21:52

Havent bought anything! either Yay!

Have listed my stuff but wondering if im asking too much though. have sold lots before ,but often started at 99p .. this time im asking more what i want for stuff, especially as its all new or virtually new i.e the bought and unwused stuff inthe wardrobe.. I'd ask you to look but its ebay and may be too dangerous (but if you do im the same user name as here)

I have 'watched' a dress though Blush..which I wanted last year and missed ..however I have to remind myself that I do have 7 maxi dresses .. (3 have been listed though and might sell ) .

Good mantras..greengarden now i just have to do them..

I did successfully alter a dress today do I have a 'new' upcycled one to wear! Also am at last feeling properley better,, so will be back to work tomorrow .. Cant decide if thats a good thing, I enjoyed being a 'at home' sewing person, (but not the other stuff of course , I'm weird but not that weird! Grin)

CoconutAmericano · 05/08/2014 22:06

Girls how the heck do you sell on ebay?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 05/08/2014 22:17

This looks like a great thread and one I should probably be on. While I was doing some internet rummaging this eve, I found this site which I thought some of you might enjoy? skintinthecity.com/

shopalot · 05/08/2014 22:42

Halo here Grin

Greengardenpixie · 05/08/2014 23:05

Its easy coconut. You need to set up a sellers account. Post a few photos and then create your listings...its that simple. You also need to have a paypal account.

CoconutAmericano · 06/08/2014 08:45

I am seriously considering selling a few bits that are waiting to go to charity. I have a boden maxi dress brand new this season, i should get a decent price for that?! And two pairs of brand new skinny jeans too. I have an ebay and paypal account. I am seriously thinking of taking a few pics and putting them up.

HalleLouja · 06/08/2014 08:52

Try coconut. Start the price at the minimum you are happy to get. I also often use collect plus rather than royal mail. There is a whole mn talk topic where the experts are where you can get lots of questions answered.

CoconutAmericano · 06/08/2014 09:00

I was thinking of just selling the dress as a buy it now because i have no idea how bidding works, as a seller Confused and I'm in Ireland so just plan on using "an post" the irish post office. And building the price of postage into the "buy it now" price. Do people do this?
