Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

Laska42 · 05/08/2014 08:23

I bought a seam guide for my sewing machine a kindle book and linen tunic in the white company sale Blush (but im ill, I cant be held responsible and im blaming anoymust for telling me about WC sale Wink)...

Listing stuff on ebay today and im thinking should i sell my Kate Moss top shop chiffon maxi dress? photos ..it was a fantasy life dress still has tag on and although i love it I mean when will I ever wear it ? (and it was £250). what do you think? there ar someon there at buy it now but not one my size.. I cant decide .. as i still want to believe in that fantasy life If i ask DH he'll say keep it.. (even though we spend half our life in the garden and the other yompng up hills)

Feeling somewhat better (that was a bug and a half, strangely i seem to have put weight ON Shock) should be back to work tomorrow I cant shop there

Glad you are feeling better Laska

stunning dress - is that from the latest collection she did? If so, you could certainly make some money by selling it. But Im like you - I know I wont get the chance to wear it but I dont want to sell it either.

I have lots of stunning dresses in my wardrobe as I keep thinking my social life will pick up! They are my weakness.
I fear I will one day have a wardrobe full of stunning dresses only and I will be forced to wear them.

Laska42 · 05/08/2014 09:08

It is.. and of course i look just like her in it! Am 5'5 and a half and sz12!! (its a 14 though as thats draped better) ..

Hmm they all seem to be at Buy it now for around the price I paid.. maybe ill watch a few and see.. (oh why was I so daft to buy something like that ?..( it was because Alan Rickman - as Colonel Brandon in his riding boots - was going to sweep me off somewhere romantic i think.) Pathetic woman! .Smile..but I love the dress you see and want to keep that fantasy

Shameful confession time ..I was so excited on the day the KM topshop14 collection came out (having read the hype and even watched the launch the night before) that I was online at 5am (before the official 7am on line store start and it was all up there ready to go!) {[megaexcitement and Laska loses it emoticon]

So I got the suede fringed jacket ..that was my fantasy jacket from being a teen and never being allowed such a thing .. but i will wear that this lots this late summer /autumn.. AND and i got the ibiza embroiderd kaftan (which is what i originally wanted) ..have wore that loads and love it . AND then the maxi dress (because it was there and i could) ..

But you see.. im only a local govt worker on' normal' wages .. and 56 for gawd sakes.. and also though not in debt (apart from a small credit card so thats not the problem), I am simply fixated with buying clothes it seems..

I am Not rich , not sophisticated, and dont go to anything much smart/posh.. but I spent neary 600 quid in one shot BECAUSE I fell for the hype.. (Laska slaps herself around head several times ) BlushBlushBlush

Sell the dress Laska42

I am in the middle of deciding what to return. Trying to follow rule that if I haven't worn it in 21 days -- back to the shop it goes.

Right now the pile includes t-shirts from H&M. (If I'm hot I wear vest tops; and if not hot long sleeve); sandals from Clarks; shoes from Clarks; tops from Uniqlo; crap from Primark; items DS & DH didn't like/ or wear that I purchased.

Have purchased no clothing since 25/07.

Greengardenpixie · 05/08/2014 09:33

Laska..certainly more like your old chatty self this morning!!
You really make me laugh..had a good giggle at your post.
I never fall for that kind of hype tbh...but i do like clothes and love buying them too. I am not a sucker for fashion and tend to buy what i like rather than what styles are in.
I am having a thing for perfume currently. I bought a perfume online...totally risking it by reviews and guess what...its almost identical to one i have!!! I was gutted!!! Thats the thing with nowadays perfume. It all smells the same to me. Anyway, i went into my cupboard and dug out some of my 'vintage' perfume, perfume i had when my first generation children were born!!! I am currently wearing 1980 something coco chanel..still most of the bottle left. Didnt like it then but damn it smells soo good now. Other perfumes i have, have been added throughout the years...but this one is an old one. Its probably gone off slightly judging by the colour of it but it still smells lovely.
As for the dress, well its beautiful. I would never wear it as i have nowhere to go to wear it like you laska..i lead a fairly ordinary boring lifestyle, earning a a part time wage and not much of a social life!! I spend half my life running around my wee ones currently. If you really dont think you are going to wear it then sell it. Can you see an occasion where you might? If there are lots of buy it nows then its not the right time to sell it. Wait until the glut dies down then auction but put a starting price on it that you would be happy with but would like more iykwim.
A few years back when i started on ebay i sold a kate Moss cape that i had bought during a pregnancy cause i was so fat and couldnt fit an ordinary coat and it went for loads more. Had i sold it when it was out, i wouldnt have got much more than i paid.
As for me, well i havent bought anything for over a day now. I have my eye on the cath kidston jersey clock dress but im just leaving it for now. Not really in a rush to buy anything.
What am i wearing today...well i have on jeans and a next lacey tunic in pink which has a matching vest under it. Its rather nice but not sure the colour is really me as its quite a bright pink.
I was in Tescos at 7am..barely awake so shoved on whatever i could find as i was out of milk and a few other bits. Felt like a zombie and most probably looked like oneas i walked around and a nice cheery assistant starting chatting to me irritating me and i felt i had to be polite and chat back when i felt telling her to piss off

DidoTheDodo · 05/08/2014 09:48

Bugger I failed. I just bought some walking sandals for my holiday. TBF, I did need them as last year I got horrendous blisters from walking in the wrong footwear.

AM I FORGIVEN?

(An in my defence they were in the sale)

Laska42 · 05/08/2014 09:53

i dont usually fall for the hype.. I saw the collection in the Guardian a few weeks before.. (and really had to have the kaftan and its fantastic.. a real timeless piece) ..I didnt think id have a chance as these things sell out earlyand my local TS wasnt havingthe collection so thats why i was online early. Then i went bananas it seemed ....

I will wait to sell the dress.. (and of course that neatly ties in with what I really want to do which is keep it ) If i havent worn it by spring ill sell it then ..(it seems a shame not to.. perhaps ill organise a party, eh?)

green Did you sell your Cath Kidston for what you wanted or is it still going? I think ill put my ebay kaftan up on auction..( I see some are going for £16.99 (poo)

OP posts:
Laska42 · 05/08/2014 09:56

Dido....I think walking sandals count as necessity.. (in my life they do anyway) so why do I keep buying heels?

OP posts:
Laska42 · 05/08/2014 09:58

.. perhaps i should organise a party for us lot!! .. we could all come in our posh fantasy frocks.. looks like we are pretty scattered around though

Boden kaftan.. on ebay ..

OP posts:
Apatite1 · 05/08/2014 10:05

Ok ladies, I really don't understand why you would buy clothes you would never have occasion to wear? I buy too many clothes, but thankfully they all do get an outing. I cruise a lot so even the long gowns get worn on formal evenings, ditto the cocktail dresses. And the expensive high heels.

C'mon I know you can all resist buying the things that you know you will never ever wear. I'd love to own a tiara, and a parure but let's face it, I'm not a princess going to balls so what's the point? Save your money for things you will get a lot of wear from, that fit your reality. You know it makes sense!

Meanwhile: stay strong everyone!!! I nearly slipped and bought some boots but the I remembered you all and was saved! polishes intact halo, thanks laska!

LightastheBreeze · 05/08/2014 10:13

I haven't bought anything yet in August but fear I will falter.

Last week I bought 2 longer length swimsuits from Mark's 30% off offer, sent back a tankini. They are very nice and flattering which is saying something. I find swimwear hard to get as I am tall so trying to justify it Smile

Also navy bowling bag came from Boden, It is practical and will be OK all year round - and it was July Smile

I did send back chelsea turn-ups and boho trousers though.

Am trying to avoid house stuff as well as that is another downfall of mine.

Greengardenpixie · 05/08/2014 10:24

Laska..i love love love that kaftan Envy
You didnt pay that for it though did you?

dexter73 · 05/08/2014 10:36

The kaftan is lovely. I nearly bought it in the sale when it was half price but thought I would never wear it.

Laska42 · 05/08/2014 10:37

no it was £75.. (still a lot).. Right am going otherwise ill noodle on here all day .. have my machine out.. im going to take some sleeves off a red linen dress, shorten a boden dress and take u some monsoon denim-style linen trousers I was going to ebay to make them cropped.. (new clothes from old!) ..

omg fantasy life dresses this is exactly what I do, I buy dresses, I have thing about them. I rarely go out at night so I try to buy dresses for naice lunches or when Im posh shopping

Im a SAHM ffs!! I study part time too - get me and my fantasy dresses.

I was temptes so badly it tormented me all day, a balck wrap with pleated chiffon looking skirt from Mint Velevet @ £100 I was getting to think I could wear it for all my naice days out I have planned and xmas day lunch etc.

We are suckers arent we.

I read yesterday that silver coloured metals in decor are going out and gold related colours are comming back - you see it's all a big con to keep us visually interested. We need to be digging deeper than the visual.

If in doubt change you hair colour and lipstick, they cheaper or your curtains and cushions!

DH has just suggested going on a last minute golf weekend to the Algarve, leaving Thursday.

My first thought was we can't go, I don't have any beach/pool wear and it's no-spend August Confused.

Greengardenpixie · 05/08/2014 11:37

Go go go peach and black!!!!!! Take it as an opportunity to use what you have and buy a couple of things you truly need :)
Enjoy!!

Greengardenpixie · 05/08/2014 11:38

er, my thoughts would be..i cant go because my body isnt ready!!! [trying to tone up and slim a bit!]
