Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

(A tyrant ain't I? Grin

The spending wagon sounds interesting. So is it who buys the least then that wins? or is it who buys the most? Would you be willing to start it then?

andsmile · 02/08/2014 23:34

the way this threads going today, you'll need a spending rocket not a wagon Grin

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 23:41

Well, at least Laska is doing well im sure!! Grin
What about you andsmile..think you will last the distance?

Pollywallywinkles · 03/08/2014 09:30

Greengardenpixie · 03/08/2014 11:06

Pleased about it because its lovely and was only £10 and its vintage looking and my colour damn you colour therapy website!
This is a serious breech of this thread. Not doing so well...am I?

Greengardenpixie · 03/08/2014 11:23

Well if it makes us all think twice about what we spend and have that can only be good Grin

CoconutAmericano · 03/08/2014 14:31

Well it is day 3 and i have not bought a single item of clothing!! This is progress for me, serious progress. I sent back two pairs of trousers this morning too so not only am i not wracked (sp) with guilt about my overspending, i will actually be in the black this month Grin. Please please may this willpower last..

Greengardenpixie · 03/08/2014 14:35

Well done coconut!! Seriously impressed with you!!
Well today im wearing...er nothing exciting!!! Going to do a bit of cleaning so bumming around the house. Got my diesel jeans on and just a long jersey stripey top from matalan and of course my fabulous crocs
which i am in danger of wearing out

CoconutAmericano · 03/08/2014 14:37

Oh and all i need for this coming Autumn/Winter will be a pair of black leather chelsea boots, really nothing more.

This summer i had no light clothes (serial jeans wearer) so i was building up my warmer weather wardrobe ( wearing light cotton trousers for the first time etc)

My winter wardrobe is fab, lots of wool dresses, jeans, cashmere etc. i have a gorgeous Whistles parka, a Zara wool overcoat and one of those long padded coats for the coldest of days. I need absolutely nothing!!

Seriously. I can do this!!

Oh God, I hope I can do this Confused

CoconutAmericano · 03/08/2014 14:39

green i live in my cheapo Aldi " crocs" in the house. So so comfy, ventilated, so your feet don't over heat, and indestructible!! One day i will walk out of the house in them by mistake, it's only a matter of time!!

Greengardenpixie · 03/08/2014 14:46

Whats everyone else got on? Im interested????? Share your wardrobe with me!!! Grin
I have a mix of stuff from cheap and cheeful to a bit more expensive. The most expensive items are mostly Toast things and tbh most have been bought in the sale apart from a long maxi dress which is indigo garment dyed and beautiful. I think ive worn it once. The dearest thing i have ever bought was a hobbs coat...i treated myself one year. It was to die for. I saw it in a fashion magazine in an advert and i loved everything about it..it was a deep red. It was a 10 so i sold it as i was a 14 at the time..and sadly it would probably fit me now as it was more of a 12 in reality. It was vintage looking victorian-esque.
The other dearest thing i have is a pair of aquatalia black patent 60's style boots. My dh bought them for me. They were nearly £300 then. Got them out of Russell and Bromley. I still have them. They are lovely.
Here they are in green patent but i have them in black. So gorgeous!

www.pendleton-usa.com/product/LOTUS-PATENT-LEATHER-BOOTS/171470/fs/true.uts?rv=true

I rarely wear them though.

Greengardenpixie · 03/08/2014 14:47

......I should have said, they were for my 40th!

CoconutAmericano · 03/08/2014 14:54

Get those boots out this Autumn green maybe with a denim skirt? My mum is always telling me to wear my clothes, not put them up for special occasions and she's right! I never go anywhere anyway Grin

Today i wore a black and grey wool dress, black opaque tights and my black and animal print hamble oak brogues. Feck it, going to wear all my clothes from now on and enjoy what i already own!!

Greengardenpixie · 03/08/2014 15:01

....yes they would look good with many of my denim skirts!

Sounds like a nice outfit coconut.
My mum is the type that says 'why are you wearing that? You should keep if for a special occasion!!' So then i wouldnt wear any of it as i rarerly have those!!!
Actually what i do is dress in my clothes to go out wherever and i am so paranoid when i cook that i do what my gran used to do and take all my clothes off, hang them up and put scruffy things on!!!
I see you are a hamble oak fan. I love mine. i have the deep oxblood colour.

CoconutAmericano · 03/08/2014 15:04

I would love the oxblood ones this year, they are fab and so comfy!

I do the very same as your gran. I dress up to go, oh anywhere, and come home and put my scruffs on and my rubber pink crocs lol.

Otherwise the kids would have my nice clothes filthy in 10 mins, it's the only way to preserve them.

Greengardenpixie · 03/08/2014 15:08

That is exactly me!!! Its dodging sticky fingers. I often go to work with crap on my cardigan because my dd has cuddled me with porridge fingers!!

CoconutAmericano · 03/08/2014 15:17

Oh i hear you. I was on hols two weeks ago, pulled a lovely pair of trousers out to wear. They had a dried weetabix hand print on the bum lol

Greengardenpixie · 03/08/2014 15:26

I also do wear my crocs all the time..and have worn them down to the school, out to the shops..i like them :) Apart from the boots that i showed the link too..im a clumpy shoe girl.

Greengardenpixie · 03/08/2014 15:27

...now been sitting on my backside for way too long so im off to do some sorting and tidying Sad

masterprocrastinator · 03/08/2014 15:36

Love those boots Greengarden, awesome winter wear with dresses and skirts. Envy

I am a Toast addict too - today I am wearing Toast black cotton skinny trousers and old Toast black sandals, with a black and white layered vest. I am a sucker for the imaginary lifestyle this brand sells, as if these clothes will magically transport me from scraping cornflakes off the sofa to a windswept vista of outdoorsy abandon....as if.

No spend day today Smile

Drywhiteplease · 03/08/2014 17:37

Hmm.....I really need some swim shorts. I'm going on a holiday that involves water sports and I really don't want to be bending/falling over in my swimming cossie Grin...but I've signed up to "no spend August".... Can I be excused? I could buy really cheap is that makes any difference Smile

Greengardenpixie · 03/08/2014 17:57

Of course you can dry white Grin

ZaraW · 03/08/2014 18:38

August is a tricky time when the autumn/winter stuff is coming in the shops. I haven't bought anything for myself so far . Did have to buy a new cat carrier at the vets as the old one was tiny and the door hanging off. My cat can now sulk in comfort when she goes next time ;)

Am determined I won't be buying anything for myself this month.

Laska42 · 03/08/2014 18:56

Hi all just checking in to see how we are all doing,, have been struck down with killer stomach bug this weekend for some reason (no-one else in the family has had it but me).. so not been thinking about clothes ..

Right now Im wearing old baggy linen shorts and a vest top..and looking as good as I feel... Sad

Greengardenpixie · 03/08/2014 19:22

Oh laska..poor you :( Is it the norovirus i wonder?? I have had the sickness bug twice. Its rotten but its usually fairly short lived. Hope you feel better soon.
As for spending well its a mixed bag on here. I have done badly. I bought two scarves [ not a crime but still] and then won a bid on a top on ebay. Then on top of that, im going to fess up - i ordered a long denim jacket from toast in their sale today but on the condition that i sell a cath kidston dress i have and never wear but i love the print and a brand new denim jacket from white stuff that i never seem to wear either. So thats the deal. In all fairness, it wasnt a whim. I had seen it before on their website when looking at denim jackets but it was ridiculously expensive at the time. Because i hadnt worn the one ive got [ i dont tend to do short jackets really] it just lies there...looking nice. So do you get my logic???
