Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

(A tyrant ain't I? Grin

fell off the bandwagon already yday Sad about £200 spent on autumn clothes, although all very cheap - h&m, dotty p. however, all replacements to items i wore last year all winter long, so will be well worn.

PeachandBlack · 01/08/2014 11:49

My delivery came yesterday so just sneaked in before the cut off! Am keeping 1 thing and sending the rest back. I plan to wear the item I've kept on two different days out this month and if I don't, then I'll return it as well.

andsmile · 01/08/2014 13:02

I really want to buy a jumper and two black dresses and a pair of shoes for the Autumn.

I only have one jumper from last year and it is the wrong colour for me relal but I will keep it.

One black dress - I have it in annother colour it fits me beautifully and I lurve the fabrics so much

The other black dress, its a bit smart for a day dress, maybe a posh lunch date or office wear - nm im a SAHP doing school runs mostly.

The shoes - well I dont really need another pair but...

Tell me not to buy, tell me NOT TO BUY Arggghhhh.

HalleLouja · 01/08/2014 13:10

andsmile just step away.

Laska42 · 01/08/2014 13:35

Step AWAY smile.. its only for one month ....

WELL THIS IS IT!! ..Good Luck al...l We can do it!!..

I just sidled past Laura Ashley's door without looking (last knockings of sale going on inthere..) and Sainsburys was my lunch time destination Sad but didnt go to the bit of the store withthe clothes ..

I'll probably not be here again until Sunday evening now. But Ill be ok as I live fairly rural there are no shops nearby to tempt me (except charity shops and I have promised not to darken their doors). I dont usually have time to go on net weekends (DH works away all week and its then I have time to surf and shop) ..

Be good all!! Grin

andsmile it's too early for Autumn clothes, they will only sit in your wardrobe for another month. Also, unless they are a limited edition woven from unicorn hair they will also still be there for you to buy on 1st September!

Drywhiteplease · 01/08/2014 13:59

Even at Kings Cross there are clothes shopSad resisted , just looked. Been on a train all day, good way to not spend.
Cheers Chablis

Drywhiteplease · 01/08/2014 14:11

Meant to say moneyone I had a 2 month spending ban at the beginning of the year saving for something, don't feel sorry for me. I spent the time making a wish list on pin, went completely nuts when the 2 months were over which defeated the object somewhat Hmm

Greengardenpixie · 01/08/2014 14:19

I agree with peachandblack. I dont see any point in stocking up on winter clothes. They will, from past experience, just sat in the wardrobe waiting for it to get cold and:

  1. the worst part is that by the time you are ready to wear it....its beenreduced in price or there could be a deal on. How many times has anyone done this...i certainly have. Well not this year!!
  1. if you rush out to buy a new coat for example for winter..others will come out after you have bought it and you will be kicking yourself as there is a better choice.

So definetly dont buy any winter clothes just yet and/

There is no point in buying summer clothes atm as it will be nearly over and you may not be the same weight next year!!

Greengardenpixie · 01/08/2014 14:21

Oh i saw a nice top in tesco and resisted. Even had a browse and resisted!!!! Although my last spend came through today...a tunic from next and a pair of jegging crop and tunic from House of fraser. So thats it for me. I dont have any other online things coming except for a few bras.

DidoTheDodo · 01/08/2014 14:51

Today I deleted several clothes shop marketing emails and although I looked at brandalley I DIDN'T buy a dress I really liked (it was actually similar to one I already have)

Next day off I get I shall have a wardrobe cull.

Perhaps we should combine this thread with a clothes-swap one?

HalleLouja · 01/08/2014 15:47

I did cull and tidy my wardrobe a few weeks back. Has helped me be more organised.

Greengardenpixie · 01/08/2014 16:12

Yes, i have unsubscribed from loads and yet i am still getting emails from these companies!!!

christinarossetti · 01/08/2014 16:21

BTW, the 'would you buy this from a market stall?' idea is SOOOOOOO true.

I tried on pair of black skinny jeans in a charity shop yesterday. Perfect fit, 3 quid. Then I looked at the label and saw 'BHS' and instinctively thought they were crap. If the label had said 'Toast' or 'Gap', I would have been chuffed.

Did buy them, though, and will cut the label out Grin.

Thanks laska and halle - I have moved my personal allowance into a saving account so I cant just easily click click clic

peaches I know you are right but one is a limited edition and has already sold out in my size on one site.

dry good idea to make wish list on pin it.

green you present a very good argument there but I have been so indecisive in the past that my size often selles out - partculalry in the concession ive been oggling. But for the record I maxed out on winter coats and boots last year (thats when I realised I was going mad) and I have already bought a new winter coat last month. I have also bought my winter traininers for the school run. I know what my gaps are.....tut tut

Ive been toddler girl clothes shopping instead - now she does actually need new clothes and shoes. Ive foudn some Clarks for £9.60 - I dont know if this counts. Blush

Greengardenpixie · 01/08/2014 18:15

Toddler girls clothes shopping doesnt count Grin I have been doing more online shopping but school shopping. Bought my dd a grey pinafore and my ds some more polo shirts as i threw his stained ones out from session. Everyone had some paint mark on it when i looked through his stuff. Collected all my school stuff from Tesco and that i had previously ordered online,...2 packs 7 pants, 2 packs 3 vests, i pack tights, 1 pack socks, 2 jumpers for my ds, 3 cardigans for dd..3 packs of 2 polo shirts, 2 school sport shorts came to £55 all in all and i used my £30 clubcard boost vouchers and only paid £25 real money. Totally worth it and has saved me sooo much!!

AnonyMust · 01/08/2014 21:53

Green, that's almost negligible - not for you, tiny (almost invisibly sized) items AND at a bargain. Wow
Quite relieved you've passed a toddler clothing exemption. I went to H&M and bought a few bargain park clothes. Sophia t-shirts, rubbishy leggings that look nice but won't be missed if damaged by play (cheapy cheap), a headband sporting a golden crown, a sparkly Hello Kitty handbag, candy pink joggers and two stripey t-shirts for DS. All essentials - well, with a few "Ooooh, I just have to have THAT!" bits thrown in!

christinarossetti · 01/08/2014 22:12

I did buy 3 new bras on Oxford Street today, but ONLY because my size is always in the sale and none were over 9 quid.

So a future investment, rather than an 'ooohhh, it's in the sale'.

andsmile · 01/08/2014 23:34

Ive booked a holiday - I daresnt spend anymoney now in case I've misread the T&C's about when you have to pay. It doesnt say and now im panicking a bit - I booked it without discussing it with DH - he not here. I do plan, organise and book holidays and he is always grateful but I usually at least run things by him...arrggh well, might be three months of me not having any cash to spend, I'll take a mate if he moans.

Greengardenpixie · 01/08/2014 23:37

I booked a holiday for me and my dh and the kids. He was really happy about it. We had nothing planned and it was spur of the moment. I paid for it anyway. We went to the lakes and had a lovely time :)
