Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

(A tyrant ain't I? Grin

Hi how is everyone ? I've realised the root of a lot of my spending is due to my dd2 s autism , I seem to see spending as a way of getting some of my identity back , but it has to stop

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 10:56

Hello autumnsmum...so strange isnt it how we all use shopping to satisfy something!!! How are you doing with your spending today?
andsmile..thanks for that..off now to google winter colours!!!

shopalot · 31/07/2014 10:58

Autumnsmum-that sounds deep and I hope you can find help to overcome your spending. My spending is because I like nice things. I was also never allowed to spend anything as a child. We had to save and I know that as soon as I had my own money I immediately rebelled. Mind you at 38 you would have thought I would have grown out of rebelling!!!!

autumnsmum · 31/07/2014 11:01

Do you know I went to primark yesterday and only bought some knickers for myself ! Dd2 having a meltdown in there helped on the spending front

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 11:03

Yes, did the quiz and you are dead right. My colours are:

From Left: Medium gray, charcoal, black, dark taupe, icy gray, taupe, icy blue, icy lavender, lavender, icy pink, clear red, raspberry, raspberry pink, aubergine, icy yellow, bright golden yellow, hot turquoise, emerald turquoise, purple, dark purple, royal blue, navy.

I have to say i have been told i really suit black by a few people. Also my dh loves me in icy yellow. Love emerald, purple, teal rather than turquoise, blue, navy, love lavender infact the only colour i dont wear is bright golden yellow in that list. I love taupe. Infact they are the contents of my current wardrobe!!! and i am not joking. I have from left to right in my wardrobe - cream and white basics, black, navy, pale icy blue, medium blue, i have green but not on that list really - grass green colour, red, raspberry colours!!!!!

autumnsmum · 31/07/2014 11:04

Hi hope I haven't depressed wveryone

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 11:04

oh and teal and hot turquoise!!!! So strange!!!

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 11:06

No, you havent depressed anyone...autism..that must be hard. As a teacher, i have had children in my class with autism. Its hard work for me and must be so hard for you!

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 11:25

Dressipi is a great website..i did it all and found myself looking at some of my clothes!! and all the colours suggested on the other website came up!!!! The only thing that wasnt what i wear are the shoes. I dont really do delicate..i like funky chunky shoes!

shopalot · 31/07/2014 11:32

I am worried that greengardenpixie and mysmile are bad influences on this thread. Stop linking to lovely things and websites.......we are trying to stop the temptation. I fear greengardenpixie may need to buy things that are her colours now to complete her wardrobe. This is dangerous !!!![said in a fond and smiley way!!!!]

shopalot · 31/07/2014 11:39

Autumnsmum - not depressing. I think we all have our challenges that lead us to shop otherwise we would not shop. As to whether we can admit what the reasons are, that is another matter.

It is hard to have a dd who has Autism but the reason you shop is not because of her. It is the part you mentioned about getting your identity back-that is the real issue. I have a friend who has started working a couple of hours in the local shop. She doesn't do it for the money but she does it because she enjoys it. She loves meeting people and for a couple of hours a week she is not a Mum she is just her. Is there is something you could do every week to make you feel " you"? What about volunteer work or something?

OsloGin · 31/07/2014 11:56

I would like to join in! I have huge amounts of clothes which I never wear and have never worn. I was attacked 10 years ago - not looking to bring the thread down! That was another country and lifetime ago - and somehow I still dress to be invisible but I buy clothes I would love to wear. It is like I am keeping an archive of clothes for the person I would like to be.

OsloGin · 31/07/2014 12:01

Just realised that I have stockpiled large amounts of fake tan and body moisturiser which I never use. Thanks to a thread on here I did once use sally hansen airbrush legs for an evening and actually wore a dress. I think I will make a pact to use up all body mousturisers and take the leap into fake tan too. I even have false eyelashes but have never tried them.

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 12:15

shopalot..fear not..i am strong Grin I am not going to be buying anything for a while. I have most things in the colours mentioned. I have one khaki coloured cardigan which is more autumn and it doesnt suit me anyway. The rest are good choices so i dont have that reason excuse
Welcome oslogin :)

autumnsmum · 31/07/2014 12:24

Well the thing is I tired on that other thread about NSD on clothes for a whole year. I fell off the wagon. It is a big challenge. I've moved on and got rid of a lot of emotional baggage. I knew why my spending crept up. I was trying to make myself feel better about being overweight and putting on my armour for school run - whole other thread.

But here is the thing - I found I really enjoyed putting the outfits together and paying more attention to myself (SAHMer/PT Student). This constant consumption of clothes conflicts with some of the values of minimalism but Ive found a niche to buy intentionally.

The thing about dressippi and doing your colour analysis is you shold use it to put you off buying lots of gorgeous clothes, that quite frankly darling.... ....look a mess on you these are my demotivates.

I've spent a lot of time planning ahead - Ive bought the whole family winter coats during the summer months from last winters sales stocks that are still listed online. So you can keep you full price new season ads that try to get my money.

Another tip is to count how many you have of each item t-shirts, jumpers, jean etc then next time you see that item your large number tells you NO youve already got 5 pairs of blue jeans. Wink

HTH

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 12:39

I would like to buy a colour swatch though for clear winter..where can you buy them from? I looked them up on ebay and they are something like £25 for a bit of card with fabric colours!!!

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 12:41

Well i am a pear shape and have to say apart from the danger of looking like im wearing a sack..i kind of know what i suit. I am pear shaped and its drilled into you everywhere!!! Im not buying anything anway but i do find it very interesting and in any case..we are not saying that we are never going to buy anything ever again...we are saying we need to alter our habits.

andsmile · 31/07/2014 13:24

Id like one too but Im too tight to pay. There is a HOD Clear Winter well esablished quiche. Useful info on there. Yes, change habits

Why do you say 'drilled into you everywhere' - or should I not be asking!

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 13:53

Just every fashion item i read is about the shape you are and that pear shapes should avoid this and that..like pockets on the hips, should buy A-line to balance the hips and the shoulders, boot cut jeans flatter pear shapes...ive been hearing it for years!!!
Thanks for the idea about swatches..both of you! :)

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 13:54

i just would have liked one in my hand if you know what i mean so i could look at it in relation to my clothes and in reality.

andsmile · 31/07/2014 14:04

Aha I see - yes I would like one too. I'll post link if i find a reasonable one.

andsmile · 31/07/2014 14:04
