Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

(A tyrant ain't I? Grin

Thanks i may take you up on that later.. I have sold quite a lot in the past and used to find when i was a lot larger (18/20) the stuff flew .. (strangely a lot of the purchasers were men!!.. what does that say ? (well i know what it says actually) .. The smaller 10s/ 12s I'm selling now ( and yes that is a stealth boast here Grin) dont seem to go so well..

I love walking but would kind of hate it on my own and not going out for a purpose around where i live i would find tedious.
Also, i normally work Monday-Wednesday and am too tired and usually have prep to do for the next day so going out to do anything is really out for me. Thursday i am recovering from doing 3 days of my job and usually feel really tired. Friday i am off but had my little girl who is 3 to run around after and then its the weekend and my dh works usually one of those days and then back to work on Monday...and thats my life!!!

masterprocrastinator · 30/07/2014 19:54

Thanks for the warm welcome - I hope to get used to receiving and dispensing the tough love Wink I tend to supplement my charity shop hauls with online goodies and the occasional boutique buy - gaaaah, I have enough!

Agree that walking can be a good alternative to 'surfing' and purchasing, and yes Laskia we will need different hobbies and trends - bought a lovely macrame belt in the toast archive sale - would be fab to learn to DO stuff instead of just buying stuff Sad

Must stop reading grazia and stylist. Not helping.

peasandlove · 30/07/2014 21:09

Stop reading blogs too. The bloggers are gifted all those amazing things they're promoting so people like us go out and buy them.

shopalot · 30/07/2014 21:53

Went into town today to do school shoes and trainers etc and I was very good. Resisted temptation but fell in Boots. Needed to get razors, nail varnish remover but definitely didn't need to buy the Footner socks ( I blame you Mumsnet!!) and definitely shouldn't 't have got the Bumble and Bumble travel size shampoo set. But in my defense it wasn't too bad and I walked away from the new lip gloss which I so nearly bought. Be strong ladies!!!!!

Greengardenpixie · 30/07/2014 22:07

You did well shopalot! :) Grin
Do you shop a lot for make up?
That isnt really my weakness. I am more a clothes person. I just bought things for my son today. Nothing for me so i would say this is my day 1.

AnonyMust · 30/07/2014 22:16

One marvellous victory over ... shopping for clothes.

AnonyMust · 30/07/2014 22:17

One day, anyway. Hope the rest of you shared this ... proud novelty.

shopalot · 30/07/2014 22:35

Yes I love make up and toiletries I am afraid. I go through spells of not spending anything for a few months and then I will waste money on a few lipsticks, blushes etc which I really don't need. I vow not to buy anything at all in August though. My dh is being surprisingly supportive and non judgey which is good re my plan for a no spend august.

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 07:34

Well day 2 today. I did purchase a bra last night..... does that count? It was a necessity so I dont think it does. I have only two in my new mumsnet size but they are a cup smaller than I should be and the underwire was cutting in to me so I am trying a cup up.
How is everyone else fairing?

Well i have loads of stuff for winter -jumpers...especially gorgeous fairisle soft lambswool jumper by seasalt in the most beautiful dusky rose colour and i havent worn it yet. Also a lovely fairisle cardigan for winter also from seasalt in navy and have worn that once. I bought a gorgeous bright and chunky modern fairisle jumper from Boden and wore that a few times...so i definetly do not need anymore...I have countless cardigans although could do with a new navy longline one. My others are looking tatty and washed out [not like me at all!!] Winter dresses...a good few cord ones. Boots - i have biker, calf, ankle, long winter weatherproof..the list goes on. I could do with maybe some woolly tights though. Winter skirts....i have only a few of those that are truly warm. Winter trousers - I have 2 pairs of Boden velvet widelegs in brown and a purple colour. Coats - one velvet one from white stuff, one woollen one from w.s purchased a number of years ago. I have a navy boden coat with red buttons..i have 2 duffle coats one in navy and one in camel. I have a boden fleece lined raincoat with spots for wet and cold days. I would have on my like list a parka but thats it.
I would like maybe some nice comfy pyjamas!!

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 09:22

Oh and i have a gorgeous w.s. green peacoat type thing but its still got its label on!!! That is from the beginning of spring. I just didnt get round to wearing it so that will do for Autumn.

shopalot · 31/07/2014 09:41

Your style sounds amazing both of you!! But now I think I want a navy leather skirt and a fair isle knit which are both things I have never considered before Envy Confused

andsmile · 31/07/2014 10:02

ive now discovered Seasalt website Grin

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 10:05

Well lets to do a feel good post....

Today i am wearing a pair of toast crop denim wide leg washed indigo jersey trousers [new and never worn as yet] and a slim fitting pale blue w.stuff tee worn loads of times but love the colour. Dr marten chunky buckle slip on sandals. i am currently plopping my hair in a microfibre towel i bought yesteday in home bargains for a really cheap price..its fab!!!...leaving conditioner in to try it out and see if it makes my hair less frizzy!!!

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 10:09

...oh and i feel my af [aunt flow for those not used to abbreviated speech]is coming on so all i want to do is curl up and eat chocolate..not great when you are on a diet. I feel tired.....just the time when a bit of online shopping can hit gggrrr!!!!
Shopalot...thank you, i take that as a compliment. andsmile..careful, you may order something. I like some of the dresses in the winter collection..might just order one but not this month at least.

andsmile · 31/07/2014 10:09

Green I tried one of them fancy oils on my hair yesterday just beflore blow drying and hair does feel all soft and fluffy (not frizzy) I keep preaning like a cat.

it was loreal - shoved it in basket for online shop.

andsmile · 31/07/2014 10:13

ive seen a coat and a jumper in sale section - Im supposed to be adopting minimalism. I have took so many clothes to the charity shop this month. Some unworn, some unopened. I have two coast dresses unworn im trying to rehome.

Id recommend the colour analysis thing - just do it yourself online stops you buying stuff thats 'the wrong colour' every little de-motivator helps! Wink

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 10:19

I had considered colour analysis in the past. Someone i know had it done and she always looks amazing and she hit 60 this year. She never looks washed out. The thing is...i have pale olive skin, hazel eyes, and dark hair and i just cant seem to place myself..any ideas?

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 10:24

The oils are great on dry hair. I have tried a few. The one i least like is the one i have right now..which is Garnier ultimate blends. The best i have had is kerastase elixir ultime oleo complex and immortal moringa [ bit of a mouthfull!!] ...it was lovely and smelt beautiful. The one i have is thick and i dont like the texture. I had the loreal elvive one and it was very good too and smelt lovely...both have a lovely 'dry oil texture' that is light and doesnt weigh down the hair unlike the garnier one.

andsmile · 31/07/2014 10:44

IMO Green you are a clear winter - there are lots of sites but I find this one has same info on and I book marked it as easier to read:

www.collegefashion.net/fashion-tips/how-to-find-your-perfect-colors/

I found finding a celeb (ive never oggled slebs or got what others got out of watching/following) that looks like you then use google images to see what colours they wear. I used the character 'Mellie Revenge' - you can see how all the colours she wears match up to the winter pallet and her colouring is the same as mine. So who do you look like...? - get googling.

Also dressipi.com/?gclid=CIPAuLKh778CFamWtAodDjQAxQ gives advice about what suits your shape - again this stops me from buying stuff that looks great on the hanger and while it might fit will make me look like a sack of tattoos!

Then if I think of my minimalist principles - its about buying with intention - buy only what you absolutley love and will wear.
