Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

(A tyrant ain't I? Grin

Greengardenpixie · 29/07/2014 22:31

I sound like my dd who i am potty training atm...she seems to have a poo issue 'i'll do it tommorrow'..grrrr...
But i mean it.. this time i really will do it.

CoconutAmericano · 29/07/2014 22:41

Thank you! I will be training my dd2 soon too. Looking forward to both my girls having poo issues then Grin

But yes, how nice would it be to abstain completely tomorrow?! How chuffed would we feel? How relieved to get thru the day having not wasted money? I have survived today. I can and will get through tomorrow. You absolutely can too.

Greengardenpixie · 29/07/2014 22:43

We are going to do it tomorrow..and it may be difficult too as i have to go to Next to do my returns but i promise i wont even look.

Greengardenpixie · 29/07/2014 22:45

As for the poo issue well, my older dd had it..just wouldnt do it in the potty..and i had to do a neat trick that my health visitor told me. My ds was amazing...no issues and then my youngest dd is starting like my older dd...not again - seriously!!
Goodluck when you try..its such a pain.

CoconutAmericano · 29/07/2014 22:46

Don't. In and out. Job done.

Laska42 · 29/07/2014 22:47

Well done coconut Flowers (oh I do feel mean..).
You can do it green !!

Am definately ,no angel I was seriously tempted couple of days ago by an email showing a maxi dress in Monsoon sale that I had ordered earlier on in the year and sent back because I decided it was: a)too expensive for what it was , b) the neckline wasnt quite right and c) because I have SEVEN Blush maxi desses already .. but I managed to remember all that before I hit the button gain ...

Has anyone else noticed that the 'unsubscribe' buton on a lot of the emails doesnt work? (esp Toast, Monsoon mint velvet, white stuff ) ill have to go into the sites .... but that is dangerous.. so far ive sent all clothes site emails into spam and delete

I've failed already.

Greengardenpixie · 29/07/2014 22:59

Yes!!! thats exactly what happened to me...i thought i was going mad!! I was sure i had unsubscribed and yet still the emails keep coming!! bloody cheek!!

Greengardenpixie · 29/07/2014 23:00

Anonymust..how? What did you buy??

Saurus72 · 29/07/2014 23:01

Quite high drama on here I see with Coconut and the dress Wink. It's been a mixed few days for me (I'm not starting no spend August until Friday). Returned a skirt to Monsoon (£22), cancelled my Zatchels order (£21), and returned another skirt to Hobbs (£45). But I have bought dress from Cos (£55) that I have been looking at online for a couple of months and I finally tried it on today and it looked fab!

This has brought it home to me that I won't be able to visit the shops in August even to window shop, as I am bound to see something that I want to buy.

Does anyone subscribe to the Recovering Shopoholic blog e-mails? I quite like them. The blogger is very sincere and although her style is not like mine at all, I do find her analysis of shopping and her honesty about the struggles of restricting shopping interesting.

I no longer read glossy magazines - and I feel much the better for it. It is astounding how less appealing something is when you haven't read that it us the latest wardrobe must-have, or the perfect seasonal transition piece. It allows you to assess it for yourself and see whether you actually like it without the hyperbole.

Another trick I recently employed when I was trying on my Toast Archive Sale purchases at home is to think about whether you would want a particular item if it wasn't from a retailer/brand you think is desirable, but from a market stall instead. It sounds silly, but I found it a powerful tool to use to separate the myth of the brand (which, after all, has been created by marketers) from the actual product. On that basis, I returned 4 of the 5 items I ordered from Toast, and felt really calm about it.

Greengardenpixie · 29/07/2014 23:01

They dont go into my junk folder either!!! The ones i want go in there and the ones i dont come into my inbox!!! Just be careful of that. Suppose it depends on what you have..i have outlook and its crap for vetting..or maybe im crap at setting it up.

Greengardenpixie · 29/07/2014 23:07

Saurus totally agree with you regarding the brand. I think its all wrapped up with the lifestyle that you imagine you have like laska has talked aboout in her previous posts. I am going to use that as my mantra!!! I think you do get in love with the idea of what you are buying..buying into a lifestyle. Looking back at the stuff i have bought from Toast, i have actually kept it because i really like it for what it is. I bought some jersey cropped leisure trousers, a necklace i really liked but it was too pricey at full price..most things i buy are things that i really liked at full price. At christmas i bought only one thing from toast and that was a blue cord tunic which is beautiful as it was the only thing i liked

Greengardenpixie · 29/07/2014 23:08

Actually i find most of their stuff in the archive quite hiddeous!

CoconutAmericano · 29/07/2014 23:14

Omg loving the market stall analogy. I am so adopting this

AnonyMust · 29/07/2014 23:14

Green- a bikini with a skirt (to hide effects of epilady on my bikini line when I took kids swimming today): eyeliner THAT I ALREADY HAD AND FOUND IN THE CAR, another blusher, a M&S dress (going back), excess sunglasses for kids.

Greengardenpixie · 29/07/2014 23:21

Thats not too bad is it Anonymust? You are taking the dress back, the bikini you used..the eyeliner you thought you had lost..well the blusher..mmm is the only thing and the sunglasses are for your kids!!
Have faith..right you will do it tomorrow..which is only 30 mins or so away...report back when you can!!!

Greengardenpixie · 29/07/2014 23:23

Yes, i am adopting the market stall analogy. I think its true for most things i buy although it wouldnt work for asda and i do buy things sometimes fro there on the odd food shopping trip but i dont care about the brand...

Greengardenpixie · 29/07/2014 23:26

I think im off to be now...although i will go on my tablet / phone but just to play more farm heroes / pet rescue Damn you King games...

AnonyMust · 29/07/2014 23:34

Yes. Not too bad. But did sense you all with me as I fought (with futility) to resist.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/07/2014 00:27

OK - I'm going to buy a few simple tops to wear with summer trousers/skirts but in August , I'm on The Wagon.

But I want a Uniqlo jacket as soon as it's September.

Deal?

AnonyMust · 30/07/2014 04:42
