Ooops, sorry, I didn't mean to finish the thread.

Herbs, I agree with all the others. Keep on trying for the other school(s) and if you get an offer, think seriously about it. Is the intake at the other school(s) different? Do you think he would find a/more kindred spirits there? Is the management/organisation better? Beachy's advice about trying moving him, and stuff for playtimes is good too.

I would like to say that my DS has just been a star and cycled up with my forgotten presents for my colleagues. I fear that had I have asked DD, it would have been a very different response.

So am I MrsS and Rudy! Happy Hour starts at 5Smile

wordassociationfootball · 23/07/2014 10:43

CV - I salute you for lowering the soaring drama bar with DD2's 'charmingly amateur variety show' Grin

Hatty - DH and I turn off the internet at night... slippery slope? Grin

Rudy - have a lovely lunch with DC. Are you planning to introduce your cupboard hiders to doing runners? Grin

BTM - I would so feel like 'what is the f-ing point of anything?' re the worktop.

Stropps - good luck today.

I have two more years of school runs. Although she'll probably be fighting us to walk herself at start of year 6. It's a mile there up a hill, which is why I turn into a blob over the summer. Regarding freelance trumpet blowing, when jobs go well I ask them to write me a recommendation for my LinkedIn page. When they don't go that well... I don't. It's a selective trumpet situation.

Herbs - I would be wringing my hands raw in your position. Doesn't sound like new head is massively on top of things, although with deputy gone that could change. Change of class might help, I do agree. My school wasn't going to change. In fact it sauntered into special measures over the following 3 years. Yours could be on the up. What do you think of the head? If they were blaming the dep, that sounds a bit dodgy - they're in charge. Again, FWIW I dillied and dallied for a long time about what to do but the only thing that stopped me feeling powerless and stopped the hand wringing was calling the ed auth and putting dd put on list for a school I knew was excellent. I had not even been to visit it prior to them offering us a place! They called in the first week of September.

bigTillyMint · 23/07/2014 11:31

I agree, although it may feel like an upheaval to move him even after term has started, if you feel the other school will be better, then it will be worth it.

motherinferior · 23/07/2014 12:19

DD2's Leaving Assembly was surprisingly good - they do it themselves, full of anecdotes from each year. Two of my favourite teachers - one was DD1's reception teacher, the other taught her in Y1 and DD2 in Y3 - are also leaving. Not a dry eye in the house.

Apparently we have a picnic in the park, not the usual pub visit, after school. Must run up some brownies as have no wine to take because I drank it last night.

CointreauVersial · 23/07/2014 13:12

"selective trumpet situation" - very good. Grin

Well, DD2 has...oooh....five more minutes of primary school, although DH told her he will get there late so she has time to hug everyone and get her shirt signed (yes, BTM, they do that in addition to the MC and overpriced hoodies).

Then it's all hands on deck to get the packing done so we can leave first thing in the morning. I also have to run the hammies to the pet shop, where they will be boarding for the duration; they will probably love all the attention they no longer get at home.

herbaceous · 23/07/2014 13:47

CV - you seem rather dry-eyed about the end of primary school? Or is that why you've sent DH, so he can do the crying?

Re moving schools, to do so I'd have to first fill in a form at his current school, signed by the head, saying we want to move, and would then have to wait for a place to come up at our chosen ones. Thus burning bridges, rather. I'm trying to ascertain through unofficial means which schools have places. The ones I'm thinking of do have more 'middle class' intakes, in which he might find 'his people', and which come recommended by friends...

wordassociationfootball · 23/07/2014 13:52

Oh bless everyone and their leavers and their picnics.

DD1 has had a mate here today. They went out to have an ice cream in a caff. When they came back too soon she asked if they could make toffee! Shock And I grumbled but said yes! Shock Shock
No more sugar til the weekend for her.

To expand on my work situation:

No pension
No holidays
No sick pay
No guaranteed income

BUT today, in feedback on a first draft on one of my jobs, the insanely busy, very cool, young, non-camp - and you'll see why I put that in a minute - producer has not only suggested things that are all improvements, but also made comments about the things he likes, and put kisses next to some of them! Very very pleasant.

(Mind you, I did at least twelvety versions of the storyline so it hasn't been a total non-teeth gnasher Smile)

wordassociationfootball · 23/07/2014 13:53

That's annoying Herbs. The school we were leaving didn't have to know until we went. Mebbe it was because it was different borough.

beachyhead · 23/07/2014 14:22

I think if you do it quickly and explain to the HT that you understand that it will improve, but that you 'ought to have a contingency in place, just in case'. As long as it means that you do still have a choice when and if you get offered a place, then I would go for it.

herbaceous · 23/07/2014 14:42

I did say in the meeting yesterday that if there was even a whiff of it carrying on in the first week of term I'd be removing him, so I guess I'd just be putting my money where my mouth is. She really Does Not want that.

bigTillyMint · 23/07/2014 15:13

Herbs we deal with a few school movers and u can deffo get a place first then rush round, get the form signed by old school and take it to new school if necessaryWink

herbaceous · 23/07/2014 17:53

Gutted. Arrived to pick DS up at end of his last reception day, and a 'goodbye presentation' was just ending. I'd missed them all singing 'Goodbye' by the Spice Girls (I know...), which he'd been singing at home all week. Even the thought of them all singing it to their teacher who's going back to Australia made me well up. And I MISSED IT.

Disproportionately gutted.

Don't know how anyone else knew about it...

Stropperella · 23/07/2014 19:09

I got the last place on the course. I'm in. It's going to be a monster marathon and I will have to drive 200 miles every Tuesday from Sept 23rd and work sooooo hard, but I'M IN AND I AM SO EFFING PROUD.
