I finally bought a pair. They're nice, plain navy but the navy has a nice sheen to it and I really like the look of them. People rave about them but I've always been out off because flip flops always - without fail - hurt!

But I've made the leap. I live in Toms in the summer usually so thought I'd have a change. But they hurt! It's not excruciating but still .. It's pretty uncomfy.

Tell me this is normal and I'll get used to it please ?!?!

I don't get them - aren't they just branded flipflops. What makes them so different to £5 ones ? Now Fitflops I live in !

TheWorldAccordingToJC · 12/07/2014 20:04

Well, quite!

I'm not sure so far what exactly makes folk rave about them

I got some in TK Maxx for £10. They didn't need breaking in like cheaper brands, but otherwise... Meh

PennyPepper · 12/07/2014 20:20

Flip flops always hurt between the toes when you first put them on. The skin will harden a bit and they will be fine.

The thing about Havaianas is that they are robust and won't fall apart after 2 weeks. I had my last pair for 4 years and they are still going strong. I have just bought another pair in a different colour.

I find them much comfier and much more long lasting than other flip flops.

FavaBeanPyramidScheme · 12/07/2014 20:21

I agree. I've just bought some and find them uncomfortable (moreso than my last pair) and otherwise just like any other flip flops. I thought they were supposed to be OMG AMAZING! So far so blah.

They are just flip flops. I am a big fan but they are not amazing in terms of comfort. But I do live in them when on hols somewhere hot.

Iatemyskinnyperson · 12/07/2014 21:47

They last really well & I think the base has more support than the cheapie throwaway ones. My pair is going strong after 3 yrs

gerbiltamer · 12/07/2014 22:45

I like the Birkenstock Betula energy toeposts and now own in four colours. Comfy, lightweight and fab.

Oly4 · 12/07/2014 22:59

Mine have always hurt too. I I wanted to love them. The only ones I've found that are comfy and stylish are from Reef (material thing bit instead of rubber). I own a million pairs of those and they last forever

KneeQuestion · 12/07/2014 23:15

Has anyone else noticed that recently flip flops have got more hurty than before?

I think this is because the bit where the strappy part goes back into the sole on the left and the right has moved further back towards your hell and this hurts a lot.

Why do they do this now?

Seriously disappointed with flip flops lately and I say that as someone that previosuly lived in them from may to september.

FrancesFarmer · 12/07/2014 23:19

They are just flip flops. I wear mine at the swimming pool and that's about it. I don't think they're suited to day long use.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/07/2014 23:22

Crocs flip flops are the only ones for me, way more comfy than Havaianas.

TheWorldAccordingToJC · 12/07/2014 23:31

I may revert back to my toms Hmm

Havianas are too big for me - the plastic strap on them are too big on the too. I don't have particularly narrow feet either.

GretchenWiener · 13/07/2014 07:50

They're super comfy for me. You donf like them? Sell them

suze28 · 13/07/2014 09:14

I love mine and live in them all summer. They've never rubbed at all and I've had quite a few pairs over the years. They're definitely worth the money imho.

Julius02 · 13/07/2014 09:22

I love mine and I live in flip flops all summer; my Havianas are really comfortable but I do think there is a bit of hype around them. I've also got a pair of very pretty blue flip flops with white dots on the sole which were £3 at Tesco. To be honest they are just as comfortable (although the sole is thinner).

Notso · 13/07/2014 09:33

I think Havianas last longer and have a comfier sole than others.
I have fit flops which I wear in the house as summer slippers but they are so fugly so I wouldn't wear them out.
KneeQuestion I have noticed that! I bought a couple of cheapy pairs from Primark and had to chuck them as the strap was just completely badly placed for my foot. It was like walking with a stone on my shoe all the time.

aylesburyduck · 13/07/2014 09:43

I've had mine for years - have got four pairs and I wear them all summer long so in that respect they are worth the money.

I recently moved house and managed to pack every pair of shoes I owned. OH was despatched to tesco to buy me some footwear suitable for moving and he returned with some flip flops....

Admittedly they were only three quid but the soles were misshapen within a week or so, and they were nowhere near as comfy as my trusty havs Smile

Comes down to preference really.

TheWorldAccordingToJC · 13/07/2014 10:09

I want to love them so I'm going to persevere. Trouble is, the toms are so ridiculously comfortable that anything else is going to feel strange to start with. And I like the ones I've chosen... Also love the gold ones so it's VITAL I get on with these so I can buy more..

I shall wear them all day today and see how they feel

I have 9 pairs .The first ones I bought in a little shop in Kardamaina in Kos in 2006 and they are still going strong .
I picked up a pair in Tesco this week , they were so hard and flat they may as well have been made of wood . I really don't get how anyone can say they are the same as cheap flip flops because they aren't .

Love mine , wear them all day and can walk miles in them .

Hope you manage to love yours JC

GretchenWiener · 13/07/2014 11:44

i wear mine around theme parks, which if you listen to Mumsnet is akin to trekking the Hindu Kush. Wink

I think the slim type havianas are far more comfy than the usual ones. I only buy the slim ones now and love them.

Also watch out where your buying them fromt, I recently ordered some silver ones from amazon, they came the soles were very thin alomst 1 cm.

I bought another pair in costco the same week, same style just different colour and i now think the amazon ones are fakes. after googling there are so many fakes out there its ridiculously hard to tell! the ones from the costco are so much better quality though and will last for ages. i emailed the seller back and he refunded me straight away without even questioning me which made me more suspicious.
