Havainas... Hmmm, I'm not convinced ..

I finally bought a pair. They're nice, plain navy but the navy has a nice sheen to it and I really like the look of them. People rave about them but I've always been out off because flip flops always - without fail - hurt!

But I've made the leap. I live in Toms in the summer usually so thought I'd have a change. But they hurt! It's not excruciating but still .. It's pretty uncomfy.

Tell me this is normal and I'll get used to it please ?!?!

I have just ordered gold ones from Very. Oh so glam to go with my red toenails.

Brought my first pair three years ago (blue Brasils) and marvelled at how soft they were and comfy.

I'm too old for uncomfortable feet now and live in these and madrid birkies. Love all the shiny, patent ,metallic styles as I love shiny bling.

I do not even check other footwear for summer now,and my feet are out all summer until October. Comfortable as well as stylish.

Well I think so Grin

HappyGirlNow · 13/07/2014 13:24

I've got the slim Havianas in gold and I love them - supremely comfortable..

KneeQuestion · 13/07/2014 13:31

KneeQuestion I have noticed that! I bought a couple of cheapy pairs from Primark and had to chuck them as the strap was just completely badly placed for my foot. It was like walking with a stone on my shoe all the time

Yep! So many of them seem to be like this now.

The best I ever had were by Kurt Geiger and came free with Elle or Vogue in around 2003? so comfy and lasted ages.

Tried to buy them from KG, but they didn't have them.

Beautifullymixed · 13/07/2014 13:31

Oooh,good to hear.
Yes,they're the slim ones. They look very feminine and oh so soft.

They are coming tomorrow. So excited.
I love new footwear.

Beautifullymixed · 13/07/2014 13:33

That was to happygirl

I bought two pairs of flip flops last year. Havianas (bargainous £5 in a sale) and some Reef flip flops which were about £30

I found the Havaina's uncomfortable and the Reefs very comfortable.

However got them out again this year and I'm finding the Reefs pair harder to walk in, like my feet have shrunk

And the Havaina's seem really comfy

Weird?!

MrsCosmopilite · 13/07/2014 13:54

I've always thought of them as overpriced flip flops. I bought a pair of 'bog standard' flip flops in an Australian supermarket in 1990. They fell apart about three years ago having worn them every summer. I think they cost about £3.

I'm a huge fan of Havaianas, and have always found flipflops comfortable, but the third pair of Havaianas I bought were very uncomfortable. I noticed that there was a slightly protruding "seam" of rubber on both the toe posts which was rubbing my toes. I got some fine-ish sandpaper and gave each a little rub until I could no longer feel the seam. Problem solved! HTH

Provencalroseparadox · 13/07/2014 16:33

I've got about 8 pairs of Havaianas. I love them. Nothing else comes close

GretchenWiener · 13/07/2014 16:55

i only ever have the black brasil ones

StilaOnTheWrongPlane · 13/07/2014 17:32

You can chuck them in the washing machine if lighter ones start to look grubby. All mine have been washed.

suze28 · 13/07/2014 20:04

I've got a white pair, three years old now, that are looking a bit grubby. Will they come up clean if I put in the machine, Stila?

overthemill · 13/07/2014 20:06

I love flopZ which are a new brand with massage-y base. Expensive though but v nice and comfy

TheWorldAccordingToJC · 13/07/2014 20:27

I've got the slim fit ones. I'm a totally standard size 5 but I sized up with these to a size 39/40 which is unheard of.

StilaOnTheWrongPlane · 13/07/2014 20:41

my lightest are lilac and they come up ok . . .gets a lot of the dust that gets ingrained on the sole out.

carlywurly · 13/07/2014 21:31

I've got the new sandal style havaianas with the back strap which I am just living in. I've tried lots of brands but gap are the only ones which have come close. Or crocs, but I'm not such a fan of their look.

spookyskeleton · 13/07/2014 21:38

I LOVE mine . I could definitely walk round a theme park all day in them which is a sure sign of comfort to me.

I have invested in some customised ones which the seller brings from Brazil and they are so so pretty plus comfortable - what more do you want? Grin

alltoomuchrightnow · 14/07/2014 02:10

all mine have lasted years. I'm after some wedge ones now

alltoomuchrightnow · 14/07/2014 02:10

getting cheapies is false economy IMHO

AggressiveBunting · 14/07/2014 02:20

The base on Havianas doesn't compress over time so they last much better because they don't get the dent where your foot is. Crocs are more comfortable but are more sporty/beachy whereas the Havianas still look good with a dress or skirt

bubblebabeuk · 14/07/2014 04:19

Anyone got a link for the cheapest place to buy myself a pair (such a sheep)

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 14/07/2014 06:54

I have about 8 pairs, the eldest of which are almost 10 years old (due to me moving to London where I rarely wear them anymore). I find them v comfy and v durable - the rubber would have deteriorated / crumbled / compressed by now on cheap ones. Not on my Havaias; they are still going strong.

Suzietwo · 14/07/2014 06:58

I have two pairs. One is at least 15 years old and only just getting too thin in the sole. My 'new' pair is about a decade old.

They do hurt a bit for the first few days of wearing each year but then I live in them all summer
