I've had all of my hair cut off into a super-short pixie cut. I'm generally pleased with it, and dp and the dds all say it looks nice BUT the overall vibe is a bit more Jamie Lee Curtis than Winona Ryder. Any tips on how to soften my overall look up a bit? Earrings? Different make up? Anything else?

Nobody? Oh dear, Jamie it is then.

Do you have a fringe? Can soften the effect may be not this cut but next time?
I found with a similar cut that pulling the edges around my face forwards on the horizontal to feather effect frame my face worked to take the edge off it
Otherwise let's face it JLC was not exactly a bad look!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/07/2014 18:48

Thanks, Lead. It's gone from this sort of thing to this sort of thing I guess, but feels more like this and I don't like the fact that it looks a bit spiky, which is absolutely not what I asked for. Am trying to feather it around a bit but it's so short that it's not doing much.

Loreal Tubes mascara. Big fluttery lashes instantly make you look gamine with well groomed eyebrows. Fact.

Are cute pretty hair slides an option?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/07/2014 18:57

Long eyelashes officially a v good idea. Pretty hairslides - erm...not sure. Will have a look tomorrow.

I use to use a good highlighter and blusher when I had short hair to make sure I had cheek bones.

nilbyname · 05/07/2014 19:09

Use a round brush try dry it and round sections of hair on it, the muss it up with a very stretchy fiber wax.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/07/2014 19:10

Will try - I do use blusher, but not highlighter.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/07/2014 19:11

What is a stretchy wax, please?

only use a round brush if you have a blue rinse and go to the hairdressers every Wednesday for a wash and set Blush

rough dry and rake some product through with your fingers for matte texture. Perhaps push it forwards rather than up? It will grow so quickly you will soon have sweepy forward fringe bits. I agree with fluttery lashes and thick(er) eyebrows to make it look softer and more feminine.

starsandunicorns · 05/07/2014 19:17

I use a little wax at the base blow dry to volume then wax the tips i have jamie hair

make up and accessories may be the way to go!

motleymop · 05/07/2014 19:38

I used to wear big earrings, particularly large hoops.

motleymop · 05/07/2014 19:42

Sorry, that may have been misleading as I didn't have a pixie crop but I did have short hair, longer at front with an undercut and shaved up the back. Size/style of earrings needs to be modified for face shape - I have a very square jaw and found that big earrings softened the look.

leadrightfoot · 05/07/2014 20:08

Ah been there done that
Give it a 4-7 day period and you will love it then you will hate the floppiness (voice of experience) after 16 to 21 days
Eye lashes enhance dye or mascara
Brows manicured check every day
Good skin routine check any lines when blending foundation
Clearly you own this so head up (double chins are NOT A GOOD LOOK) and strut your stuff!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/07/2014 20:18

:)

I love those twenties-esque headbands on other people, but feel/look insane in them myself.

I am going to buy some big earrings!

motleymop · 05/07/2014 21:06

everything's link made me want short hair again!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/07/2014 15:28

:)

I tried and rejected slides and headbands today, but did buy some earrings and am wearing a shed-load of mascara. I'm sure I'll be used to it in a week or so, but right now it still feels very short.

I think this is a strong look and your make up needs to match.

What is your colouring like? Eyeliner with mascara for cats eyes. Make sure your brows are well defined too.

Cheeks minimal

Lips a bit stronger? Coral/Pinks

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/07/2014 18:20

I'm a bit scared of eyebrows tbh. I don't like using pencil or anything on them.

OP posts:
andsmile · 06/07/2014 18:45

I would recomment practice with a soft kohl on your brows:

1.brush if v lightly back through existing hairs, dont rest on skin, use small dabby strokes

  1. smudge in with a brow brush of finger.

Now you have thicker brows (note not bigger or a well defined shape)

Get use to seeing yourself with them around the house. when you take them off you'll see miss them!

  1. in time add a little more defintion with shaping around the edges.
LeoandBoosmum · 06/07/2014 19:09

I'd grow the fringe a little and go kind of halfway between the two images you posted (like this):

It's still short but being slightly longer at the front softens it a lot. I agree that the JLC cut you posted is too severe to be flattering.

This is also nice if you don't like the fringe (messy pixie):

Sometimes, I hate short cuts pulled forward onto the face...I think it can be very ageing. Can't find a pic but it literally looks like the sideys have been feathered and pulled forward onto the face. I normally see it here on women 55+. Maybe they think it's anit-ageing but I think it looks the opposite.

Although this kind of sideys forward style is acceptable :):

Oops second pic was meant to be Halle Berry:

and the last pic was meant to be this (if you want to grow it a bit)...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/07/2014 19:19

Yes - the longer fringe thing is what I had last time. It'll be fine - it grows really quickly, so will soon be into the floppy stage!

Re: eyebrows - I really struggle to find the right colour to use on them. Dark brown looks and feels far too dark, and also it's hard to find one that doesn't seem to look a bit gingerish too.

enormouse · 06/07/2014 19:21

What kind of things do you wear day to day remus?

When I went super short I had to wear slightly softer/more feminine things to soften the hair till it grew out.
