I've had all of my hair cut off into a super-short pixie cut. I'm generally pleased with it, and dp and the dds all say it looks nice BUT the overall vibe is a bit more Jamie Lee Curtis than Winona Ryder. Any tips on how to soften my overall look up a bit? Earrings? Different make up? Anything else?

See, that's the other thing. I don't own many 'pretty' things. I'd like to though - so feel free to recommend something! :) Usual work look is either a tube, full or pencil skirt with heels and a black top, and usual weekend look is skinnies and Converse plus some form of biker jacket.

I went in this sort of direction clotheswise. Little bit cliched, I know. But it fitted with what I already had.

andsmile · 06/07/2014 20:32

get some scarves? they dont have to be all floral

just dot the brown in and smudge along - i know it seems a lot but you have to get used to it - anyway just an idea, onnly wear it out if you are confident to do so. I suspent a feathery fringe will have grown in by the time you got used to them anyway Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/07/2014 20:37

I will try playing with my eyebrows and see what happens!

andsmile · 06/07/2014 20:39

they frame your face, who do you look like? google images of them then copy ta da

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/07/2014 20:43

Her She has scary eyebrows - mine are smaller, lighter and neater.

Have got loads of scarves but it's too warm for them. :)

Def eyebrows. Try Sleek in Superdrug, they have a thingy that's a double ended thing with a crayony thing at one end and a mascara brush on the other, it's so subtle and easy to use, I have the worst eyebrows ever and even I can manage it. And I have light skin and hair and it's hard to find a product that isn't gingery, this isn't at all. It's my current love beauty-wise. Would you be brave enough to go for a wax and tint? Apparently only lasts a week or two so not too awful if you don't like it, I'm currently plucking up the courage to go.

And yy to blusher and highlighter.

andsmile · 06/07/2014 21:55

Oh I still wear scarfs but just around back of neck and let it hang free. Nevermind. you have to comfortable.

I've just googled 'brunette pixie haircut makeup' look at them, it may help.

You right Shirly has scary brows - I think they give her character. You must have a lovely dainty featured face though!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/07/2014 22:00

Thanks, both. Face is little and dainty-ish, I guess, but not v lovely!

Love this make up

Went down well at work today, overall. My favourite comment was, "Ooh it's lovely. You look like an imp."

OP posts:
polyhymnia · 07/07/2014 17:56

I get mine tinted - saves a lot of trouble .

polyhymnia · 07/07/2014 17:56

My eyebrows, I mean.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/07/2014 18:00

:) That scares me even more than pencil tbh. I might go to Benefit and get some tips.

OP posts:
andsmile · 08/07/2014 09:53

Did you do your brows - I thought Of youve jut now as I've put mine on.

I must stress you jut fill in/gove over v lightly your existing ones, dont draw square caterpillars onto your face - 'cos then you will look like a drag queen. Grin

Anyway from your last posts it sounds like you are more comfortable with your haircut

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/07/2014 17:30

Not tried brows yet - there is no danger of me over-doing them, as I think they look over 'done' when I've barely touched them.

Have had so many lovely comments on it that I'm beginning to get used to it now, thank you. :)

polyhymnia · 08/07/2014 17:53

Tinting in a reasonable salon isn't at all scary. Only downside is effects don't last long.

GenericDietCola · 08/07/2014 20:38

Re brows, you can use eyeshadow - this is what I do, with a flat edged brush. Gives a subtle effect and not scary at all, promise.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/07/2014 20:54

Thanks, both. I've got a little shadow set from MUA (thought I'd try ultra-cheap first) but I just don't get on v well with it - the light is too light and the dark is too light and mixing them just looks exactly that - ie mixed!

OP posts:
ThisBitchIsResting · 08/07/2014 22:45

Try the Sleek one. It's cheap too.

TheMightyMing · 08/07/2014 22:53

Clinique soft brown - I use the one with a highlighter at one end. Not at all ginger- I know what you mean as others are ginger on me or too dark and I look like a crazy extra from Cabaret!!!

TheMightyMing · 08/07/2014 22:55

I hated mine when I first had it cut, it's growing out now but I don't know what to do next. I find big earrings with short hair faintly ridiculous (on me).

LeoandBoosmum · 09/07/2014 16:47

Agree with TheMightyMing about big earrings. With such a short cut I think little studs would be way more flattering. John Lewis stocks a brand called Jools which does little diamond studs set in silver in lots of styles. They are small and dainty in real life and despite being diamond effect are not blingy-looking or OTT for daytime.

I think these are especially nice and the prices aren't bad:

I agree that brows make a big difference. If you haven't, get them professionally shaped and tinted. My mum had hers done for a holiday (she has a little pixie cut) and it transformed her face in a good way, literally took ten years off her.
I also think keeping makeup soft, natural and sheer (a wash of shadow, mascara, cream blush in a shade resembling the natural flush of your cheeks and some gloss or sheer lipstick, although if your hair is a very strong colour then the makeup will have to be a bit stronger too.www.deathandtaxesmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/carey-mulligan-gatsby.jpeg

piratecat · 09/07/2014 16:54

can recommend the NYC (cheapo -Superdrug) sable eyebrow pencil, not too dark, not chestnuty at all.

Also, dd uses (after countless trials) the Shockwaves Matt Clay, it isn't shiny and it really does mould well.

piratecat · 09/07/2014 16:58

yes pretty studs, got a great set today cheapo but they look lovely, in Peacocks! silver colours, few daimondy ones and plain pearls £4.
