powder BEFORE foundation, yes seriously!

Just read this tip on another thread but it deserves it's very own threadGrin

Google Wayne Goss make up artist, he's my new crush and tells you to moisturise, prime, powder THEN foundation!Shock

Just tried it and it works a treat , didn't even need concealer! Makes perfect sense as it fills pores and I'd a key for the foundation!

You can use mineral foundation too and then liquid foundation.

He also does a video about a tip for eye liner that's worth watching.

I do-in fact I generally really like the MAC concealers. I tried the mineral one for the first time recently and really liked that too. The ones I carry in my kit are mainly Select Cover Up plus a load of Dermablend and Keromask though.

He's mentioned a few times that his favourite work is bridal make up so I think he does more of that kind of work mua wise. Did I imagine him saying once that he did work at the bbc too?

Lots of people now make a living from YouTube. I'm sure he was a working makeup artist before. He's certainly not alone in this. I like him. Interesting that you say he may have Aspergers. That explains his slightly awkward manner, his "quirks" and the social awkwardness he often talks about. At the end of the day, it's his YouTube channel and he can make video's about whatever he likes.

My GM also told me about the powder under foundation (23yrs ago) and have tried it. I've had many a make-up professional use me as a guinea pig but because of my oily skin and the fact that I sweat so easily (even in the middle of winter), the make-up comes off within 30mins. I have never known it to stay on longer than that, so I don't buy it.

I'm not personally invested at all. Sorry.
Antoinette, I would totally class you as a make-up artist. When I used to enjoy watching him however I remember looking him up and reading quite a lot about the fact that he has actually never worked as one, and has absolutely no portfolio to speak of. I would honestly challenge you to find a bride that he has worked on before. I think he's pretty much a recluse sitting and doing make-up on himself. I also think he should almost be giving royalties to the Kardashians given the amount he uses their name in his titles.
I'm not knocking him personally here. I rather liked his sense of humour and the way that he talks about women. (although quite honestly I do find the "special needs" comment very bad taste) I'm just saying that I find the way he runs his channel to be dishonest.
Many of you said that you had a "crush" on him. Maybe take off the crush glasses for a minute, read through what I wrote earlier and ask yourself if any of it is actually untrue? Using other people's make-up pictures as thumbnails to get views on your video is very dishonest in my opinion.
His channel isn't for me anymore due to this, and the manner that he so heavily applies make-up, but I totally acknowledge, that he's popular and why so many of you like him. That's fair enough. Smile However I would be surprised if you are still watching him in a years time when he's just going over the same thing again and again.

To the people who where saying about pointing out how wrong his special needs comment was, I wouldn't bother. He doesn't take critisism very well at all, no matter how polite or constructive.
A while ago he posted a picture of a random girl he has seen around on his page and was making fun of the way that she looked. (about her eyebrows I think) When people quite rightly pointed out how nasty it was to do this to the poor girl, and that for all he knew she could be a fan etc, he just deleted and blocked their comments. He often does that kind of thing and I find it rather distasteful.

I'm not sure I can summon up the energy to care tbh. He's a funny bloke with a you tube channel who gives good tips on make up

Have read this thread with interest.

Question to jasmine1979. Wonder why you are taking him so seriously, why does he bother you so much?
You sound like you almost have a pathalogical hatred of him, yet you seem to know so much about him. Why is this so personal to you?

To me, he is just a guy with a youtube channel!

^ You're right. He's just a guy with a youtube channel.
I don't hate him at all, and it's certainly NOT personal. I appreciate it probably doesn't give off that impression in my posts above, but I don't have a major interest in him, nor do I even pretend to know everything about him.
I think he's dishonest, a very bad "make-up artist" and seems willing to make fun of people at their expense just to be nasty though.
However he's probably not the worst out there and I guess there are worse things he could be. At the end of the day I don't like him and get a bad vibe from him. I freely admit that and have given my reasons why.
Of course you are perfectly entitled to adore the guy, just as I am to not. It's a free world. Smile

I guess maybe I spent to long reading this a while ago when I was laid up in bed and some of the facts stuck.

A lot of the posters there are horrific and sometimes immature, I will admit. Many are probably bitchy for the sake of it, but I also think that there are often also perfectly valid points made.

I would gently suggest that the majority of those posters step away from the computer and get some fresh air and meet some 'real people' instead of keyboard warriors , and I say that as a complete MN addictGrin

I think I would actually have to totally agree with you there! Smile I did warn you. Wink
For many people though, I think people on youtube really are becoming the new era of celebrities, sad as it may seem.
Youtube is becoming a replacement to TV for many people and I guess the people on it are often seen in the same vain as reality contestants maybe?
It's an interesting phenomenon.

I don't adore him haha, never heard of him til this thread today!

Now you have explained it, I do understand why he gets on your nerves.
Especially this -' I think he's dishonest, a very bad "make-up artist" and seems willing to make fun of people at their expense just to be nasty though'

Also know that feeling of someone pissing you off so you go looking for stuff to back up what a dick you think they are haha.

Interesting though, going to read that link as well.

"it's a shame he's gay" is just a phrase people use when expressing regret that the fact he's gay means that he won't be available for them, much the same as I might say "he's hot, shame he's married" ( a shame for me, not them). I can't see how it is ignorant. A gay person might just as well say "shame he's straight" about someone.

Tried the face lasagne today.

Bloody awesome I'm converted. I didn't look or feel greasy/shiny and the coverage was full yet natural looking. Oddly enough my make up was easier to remove too.

I used translucent loose powder and max factor pan stick. Very little need for concealer.

The thing I don't understand about Goss is that he calls himself a make-up artist but there don't seem to be any examples of his work anywhere, except for standard studio portfolio shots. If he's like all those girls on YT who just hoard makeup because they like it, that's fine, but he has shown off his kit before. He also buys multiple shades of a foundation line. His expenditure is shocking actually, I can only assume he claims it back on his taxes, and I guess his brush line helps too. But the seeming lack of real clients is odd.

From his personal vlogs though he does seem a shy sensitive soul who has been through a lot. Maybe YouTube is an outlet.

Do you know what, I am not convinced he's a bona fide MUA either. Are we sure he's not just a slightly pitiful Walter Mitty type? Jasmine's posts make a lot of sense to me.

is not the work of a professional. It's one of the worst make up tutorials I've ever seen Shock .

Well I tried it for the first time today as going out for dinner and it looks fab! I used a cheapy superdrug pressed powder applied with a brush then Avon perfect finish foundation which yesterday I had to take off as it went on cakey. Today it's flawless only downside is it's a touch too dark but that's my colour choice nothing to do with application. I needed a lot less foundation too and the pores on the side of my nose are covered. I will be interested to see his it lasts.
