My turn......

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 19/05/2014 13:22

Rosebag, proper swimmers don't wear bikinis in the swimming poolSmile I just bought a new one - purple with holding in stuff on the tummy!

My DM is also getting more elderly - she rang on Thurs night and DD said she wasn't making any sense. I got rather worried, but then she rang on Friday and she was the most coherent she has been for ages. She was ringing to tell us that she has decided not to do the coach trip to London in DECEMBER! We are going to see her on Friday night!

Stropps, I am in awe of your DD, revising for physics. I think that will be low on my DD's priority list next year! I hated it and didn't do it for O'level.

Rosebag, sorry to hear about your DS being stressed. At least it will all be over soon. Till the A'levels start...

Blackduck · 19/05/2014 13:30

Wow herbs just wow (and wondering how you have two just 6 months apart.

Here practising my deep breathing in a local coffee shop and realising I not only have ToTs I have a JoT (jacket of truth)....

Blackduck · 19/05/2014 13:31

I also suspect half the other candidates are in this coffee shop Grin

QueenQueenie · 19/05/2014 13:57

If I'm not too late - GOOD LUCK BD!
If i am too late, hope it went well.

Yes, Herbs, please explain re two sibs six months apart...
That's very sad re your older sister. My younger brother died when he was 6 and I was 8. I don't think bereaved parents are maybe in any position to be good parents for a long while - however good their intentions (not wanting to upset anyone who has been a bereaved parent), well anyway that was my experience.

Have a look at Speedo sculpt (I think they're called). They do a lovely one with little boy short legs. Bikini?!

herbaceous · 19/05/2014 13:59

BD - a relaxation tip: breathe really gently in and out through your nose. Concentrate on how cool the air is on the way in, and how warm on the way out. Focus on the tip of your nose. Keep doing it until calm restored.

As for the younger siblings, when my older sister died my mum was pregnant, and lost the baby. She was told she couldn't have any more children, so started adoption proceedings for my brother. Then got pregnant with my sister. So, both arrived within six months of each other - a newborn, and a troubled 18-month-old toddler. I took a Dim View.

QueenQueenie · 19/05/2014 14:07

Blimey Herbs. That sounds unimaginably difficult - for everyone.
Will try your relaxation tip later - although right now I think the air going in will be hot too, it's boiling here.

lalsy · 19/05/2014 14:18

Blimey Herbs, what a thing [says Lalsy feebly].

I got a new costume from Bravissimo. They had a pleasingly small range and I think the one I got (from the sports range) will stand up to be thrown about in the sea [memories of being washed up minus top by large wave at feet of row of family and friends].

motherinferior · 19/05/2014 14:30

Lalsy Shock

QQ and herbs Sad

I have just realised that the books section of my crumblies' mag, which was compiled by a (v nice) friend/colleague, is a year out of date. Eek. Cue frantic rearrangement.

lalsy · 19/05/2014 14:43

That was very much their expression, MI Smile.

motherinferior · 19/05/2014 15:14

My malaise and self-hatred is partially explained by the rare appearance of my period. Frantically looking for sufficiently robust sanpro as no doubt it's another deluge.

bigTillyMint · 19/05/2014 15:14

QQ and Herbs, that is so, so sad. Both for your parents and you as the bereaved siblingSad I was only thinking the other day that I don't know how my two would cope if the other died - they are very close.

Rosebag · 19/05/2014 15:42

You are all SO cool…not crepey! Thanks for the swimsuit advice. I will check out MI's and Queenie's recommendations and I also think I can't put off a trip to Bravissimo any longer. They always fit me really well, and I've changed since the last fitting and not for the better. I can sort out the bras and the swimwear in one go. It's just a pain that I have to go to Oxford Street as there isn't a branch any nearer. DH bought me membership of a local health club for my birthday this year and it's lovely going swimming there and then in the jacuzzi and a lovely shower after. Right at this moment I feel great, but there was a text message from DM as I got out of the pool. And these days it's never good news. Thanks to Cremola and Herbs for the commiserations re. aged parents. It really is tough and I'm sorry you've both got it too.

Blackduck · 19/05/2014 15:48

QQ and Herbs :(

I am back, I think I did rubbish..... ho hum......

hattymattie · 19/05/2014 15:58

BD - is that rubbish like Herbs was rubbish?

Stropps - I don't think I could be invigilator for my DD - she'd have my eyes boring into her. Fingers crossed for Physics.

It is simply fabulous weather and I have no incentive to do anything useful at all but shall feel guilty if I plonk myself outside in the sunshine.

Stropperella · 19/05/2014 16:05

QQ and Herbs - Sad Sad There must have been some very tough times.

Re: sandwich generation - my dad was 96 and doubly incontinent by the time ds was born. I remember on one occasion we perched them (dad was tiny) side by side on the sofa and dad patted ds's little hand companionably and said "We can be smelly together" and ds beamed gummily at him. One of the few low-stress moments that year...

Stropperella · 19/05/2014 16:08

Fingers crossed it was rubbish Herbs-stylee, BD. Smile

Hattie, I actually got A level students this afternoon instead, which was fine by me.

Blackduck · 19/05/2014 16:22

Hatty :) don't know, weird experience. I am not keen on internal interviews. You never know what people may have heard about you (and one of the panel I see on my commute everyday!)

lalsy · 19/05/2014 16:25

Rosebag, I did Bravissimo bras and swimsuits online and returned them and ordered again to get it right...really smooth and easy (free?) returns process, and you get to try them on in comfort of your own bathroom, I recommend.

Sandwiching came home to me recently but luckily my dc are old enough for me to take my eye off their ball. I remember taking a toddler dd to see my wonderful FIL on a closed psychiatric ward not long before he died - that was strangely uplifting as neither of them had a clue where they were or why they were there, and FIL didn't need to know exactly who people were to show affection and pleasure in their company.

I can't even think about losing siblings, so so sad, QQ and Herbs.

Rosebag · 19/05/2014 17:17

Lalsy you're right and I have been ordering online over the years. It's great and they're so helpful over the phone too. I'd rather be squeezing my flesh into unforgiving foundation garments in the privacy of my own home for sure. But I need reviewing. 10 years of being menopausal (mine was early) …well, I just don't recognise myself and my body any more.

The elderly folks stories are deeply touching. We are having moments like that with my Dad…I can't bear his loss of dignity. He was a Doctor.
Ah well, I'm working tonight and tomorrow morning and evening. From where I'm standing that is starting to look like fun…DD has just come home from her first day of Year 9 exams saying her best friend has been accused of cheating by the invigilator. They're both ever so upset...Good luck with the result of the interview BD.

motherinferior · 19/05/2014 17:36

I have a child-free house. Shock One has gone to partake in activities of a thespian nature and the other appears to have stopped off at a friend's after Rawk Band and is going to have tea there.

I sort of quite yearn to go and have a glass of wine in the garden. Alone. With a trashy novel.

NUFC69 · 19/05/2014 17:37

So sorry to hear what you were posting, Herbs and QQ. I really can't imagine what it must be like.

Rose, I got a lovely, hold you in swimsuit from TKMax earlier in the year - might be worth trying, it was under £20.

Have I committed a s and b faux pas? I have just bought some white linen trousers: they look great, too; so very pleased with them.

Yesterday morning I put down my specs and I haven't been able to find them since. Sad

We had a lovely morning: I went paddling in the North Sea with DGS, we collected shells and he scooted along the prom: perfect.

motherinferior · 19/05/2014 17:37

Rosebag, going and getting fitted is probably an excellent idea, I have to say.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 19/05/2014 17:46

I am on a course this week. I do not understand any of it - it is just not going in. I have just done a mock exam and failed disastrously. No-one in my organisation has ever failed this exam. I don't know what I am going to do - it is just jargon swimming in front of my eyes and I don't understand any of it.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 19/05/2014 17:47

It is multiple choice as well. I have always been notoriously bad at multiple choice, to the extent that I often get a result that is lower than if I had made random guesses at each one.

bigTillyMint · 19/05/2014 17:55

Oh dear MrsS. Fingers crossed that it gets better over the week. DH went on a course last week which is notoriously difficult to pass and is waiting for the results.
