Let's talk workwear. Maybe a little bit of non workwear fashion chat, too.

My blog is at theworkwearedit.com but our chat goes above and beyond that.

Joseph seems to embrace the spezzato w/ pop of colour on its website:

Thanks lurking for posting re the trousers. Just checked the measurements and they're still too long.....Hmm

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 18/06/2014 22:10

"Actually, I was also wondering what people thought of coloured or non matching jackets with dark trousers or skirts" - I like them. I've seen a few instances of this lately, and really liked it. Of course, the jackets were sharp and modern (actually, most were from Zara), as were the trousers. Perhaps the haterz had seen poorly cut /unflatteringly shaped examples? I think the cut / fit / shape, make all the difference.

Here are a few examples of coloured jackets and dark bottoms. Maybe I need to photograph the people I see wearing great workwear as Pinterest isn't exactly awash w appropriate workwear outfits that aren't far too "cute" and preppy for me

numpty - extra petite.com is a US blog (last photo I uploaded is from her), by a petite office worker, in case that helps. I think she is around 5' and light as a feather (that's an imperial measurement)

pinkpear - my deepest sympathies, the nights with babies are desperate hours. It can be so arduous. Happy to see that the thread and my blog are providing some distraction. I used to watch some interesting programs on the iPlayer, too.

enormouse - actually, I think that sort of rich, but not bright, blue can look quite exxy. I'm sure I saw Ed Spencer Churchill in a v expensive tailored suit the sort of colour you are describing. The reason I think it's luxe is that those sorts of colours can only seem to be done by better quality manufacturers. Anyone can do navy, but subtle colours seem to be harder.

No, I mean Alexander SC (I don't know either of them, but was reading an article on tailoring and was struck by Alexander's suit). See these pics

Hem them/get them hemmed Numpty? I have relatively short legs for my 5'6" height, and I have to hem nearly all trousers.
I like the non-matching jacket thing too. I didn't realise it was a 'thing'.

If the size is available I'm going to get that navy/black jacket in the Zara sale. While there's lots I can't buy online in Zara I have a good hit rate with jackets. I didn't buy the Mango one, I might still. Do zara close their website before a sale?

Aw, love the babies on the thread! I love babies. Gorgeous phase.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 18/06/2014 22:31

Final post for the night, liberty - thanks for the info on the Mango blazer - the difference that the silver makes, makes sense.

lurkingaround · 18/06/2014 22:41

Oh I missed that post liberty! Darn my thread skimming! I might rethink the Mango jacket, I really could do with a pale jacket. Thanks.

Yy Belinda re more subtle colours. But since we're youtube-ing tonight, these guys do dark particularly nicely Wink

Littlepinkpear · 18/06/2014 22:56

Will swap sleep free boob monster and/or her stroppy 4 year old sister for that nice navy Mango jacket in a medium.

PM for details. They both come fully stocked with a summer wardrobe of Mini Boden and a months worth of nappies for DD2.

Remus if you feel broody, I can call you every time she wakes if you like? Grin

MillionPramMiles · 19/06/2014 10:45

Numpty - I saw some trousers on Mango online last night with a 27 inch leg (they're cropped for normal size people) - didn't get them as they didn't have my size in the colour I wanted. If you search for cropped trousers they should come up?

Generally though if the website says a 5ft 10 model is wearing a size 8 then whatever the length, it's highly unlikely the proportions will fit!

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 19/06/2014 11:11

That's a good point, Million - if you measure the length of your favourite trousers, it's useful to compare it to other trousers you are looking at (the info is often available online, listed against the relevant item, if you look for it).

I ordered the Zara jacket this morning. I couldn't see anything else worth ordering. I need to pay a visit.

Merriboo · 19/06/2014 12:09

do you have a link to it lurking?
the yellow jacket I wanted is sold out online Angry

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 19/06/2014 12:34

I bought this online at midnight, in S: www.zara.com/uk/en/sale/woman/blazers/jackets/multicolor-woven-fabric-jacket-c436458p1823025.html

OP posts:
BelindaAllWorkedOut · 19/06/2014 12:35

I wanted this, but it's sold out online and my local Zara doesn't have it. I think it's at Brompton Road and, possibly, Bond St: www.zara.com/uk/en/sale/woman/blazers/trf/zip-jacket-c436467p1960507.html

OP posts:
BelindaAllWorkedOut · 19/06/2014 12:36

This sold out, over night, online, so I picked it up this morning from my local Zara www.zara.com/uk/en/sale/woman/blazers/short-pique-blazer-c436451p1947529.html

thats the yellow one I wanted Belinda
I couldn't get online until around 12:40! the page wouldn't load...not that I had waited up specially or anything Hmm

Littlepinkpear · 19/06/2014 13:41

I have so much Zara stuff in my basket for myself and the girls.

Stuck between the pink short Zara blazer and the navy mango one.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 19/06/2014 14:31

What would you be able to wear with the things you have in your wardrobe more? Which one are you secretly hoping sells out so you don't have to decide?

OP posts:
NumptyNu · 19/06/2014 14:47

With a dress (above knee) and skinny legs, should I wear big (chunky) rather than dainty shoes to balance me out? I have pumps on today, but seem a bit top heavy.....

NumptyNu · 19/06/2014 15:00

I have tiny feet, so perhaps I'm destined to look disproportionate. I only seem to looked balanced when I have my winter boots on.

Littlepinkpear · 19/06/2014 15:29

Belinda - you are very good at this, I see me paying you a consultancy fee shortly Grin

I guess navy is the better choice for my Wardrobe but the Zara one is fun. However £££ in lots of postage. Grrr!

Littlepinkpear · 19/06/2014 16:43

As a side question, what is the quality like of mint velvet things? Shoes in particular?
