Let's talk workwear. Maybe a little bit of non workwear fashion chat, too.

My blog is at theworkwearedit.com but our chat goes above and beyond that.

Do you commute by Public transport?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/06/2014 19:30

Yup.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/06/2014 20:38

Oh dear. Remus in Shock Public Transport Confession appears to have killed the thread. :(

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 10/06/2014 21:43

Definitely cigarette trews and a good top. Necklace, too?

I commuted in flats (had 30 min walk. French Sole ballets lasted but a couple of months. Brisk walking sorts the boys from the men, shoe wise) and had about 20 pairs of heels lined up under my desk. I always liked to have options.

i cant imagine leaving shoes at work

ew

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 10/06/2014 23:14

How is it different to having them at home? They didn't smell, so no problem there.

OP posts:
Brillenbar · 11/06/2014 06:47

I too store my work heels at work. Along with an emergency suit in case I happen to need it on a day when I'm not hyper smart. I practically live there so I don't see why not!

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 11/06/2014 06:51

Actually, I might do a blog post on all the bits that I used to keep at the office, that were really helpful. Since, like Brillenbar, it was my home away from home.

I hoard at work too Grin it's quite normal where I work to have a stash of shoes under your desk and emergency supplies in your drawer.

BeattieBow · 11/06/2014 14:29

I have loads of shoes at work too (also commute by public transport!), I think it would be good to have a blog post on good commuting shoes actually - I do sometimes wear New Balance or the like, but it would be nice to look good on the way to work as well as at work. I look best in high heels (slimmer mostly) and would love to find walkable high heels, or flatter shoes that are more flattering.

Too many people waddle around in ballet flats I think.

RonaldMcDonald · 11/06/2014 14:32

I would have been frightened of having my shoes stolen but I was aware of a consultant who had about 15 pairs under her desk...she was made redundant and it was dreadful

Stokey · 11/06/2014 14:33

Agreed - I tend to wear Toms on the commute then heels in the office.

Yesterday I had to change out of ballet flats to Toms for the way home as the flats had cut my feet to ribbons.

I always used to keep a pashmina or scarf of some sort in my drawer at work as offices are always cold. The place I work now acknowledges this and everyone gets handed an office-branded fleece when they start. I have only worn my once in 9 months due to it's complete fashion fail, but the men wear them all the time.

lurkingaround · 11/06/2014 15:18

I don't like leaving anything at work. I've enough to keep track of in my head, I work in a couple of buildings, heaven knows how I'd keep track of what was where.

No purchases. I did buy Chanel Les Beiges All In One stuff while away. I love it. I am using it instead of my Aqua Vitalumiere stuff. If you like light make-up, this All In One is really lovely for summer. This is it, I love the blurb. I would love a job writing those blurbs.

On a whistle-stop run through M&S I saw this tile print skirt. Nicer IRL. I've a tile-print thing going on atm. Shame I am Ms Enormous Bum in pencil skirts.

TroyMcClure · 11/06/2014 15:19

Deoderant. Handcream. Not clothes

RonaldMcDonald · 11/06/2014 15:47

I bought a jump suit from Primark and look like Hannah Horvath in it. It was wrong in so many way I don't know why I ever purchased

sob

MillionPramMiles · 11/06/2014 16:40

Encouraged by this thread I have bought my first blouse ever. From Oasis, nice navy/white print, half/roll up sleeves. Thin material but because of the print it isn't see through. :)

I tried on various boxy tops (like posh t-shirts) in Mango and whilst I liked them they looked terrible tucked in. They sort of billowed out around my waist. Is there a secret way to tuck in?? I even tried tucking through my knickers!

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 11/06/2014 18:28

I do a half tuck, but I struggle to wear boxy tops. I love them, but they don't love me.

Re commuter shoe post - I'm game. I walked for 3.5 hours in my Russell & Bromley The Club leopard slippers last public holiday, so I've got a few thoughts.

Btw I've been tinkering w the website, and if you have any thoughts, I'd love to hear. I'm a novice at this IT malarkey, but it's always good to give something new a try. Still, maybe I should hire someone to make it look glossier?

still not convinced about novelty trews on me but LOOK

mamijacacalys · 11/06/2014 19:21

Do these fit the bill for commuting? They are the least Cornish-pasty-ish of the Clarks Unstructured range but may still be too Cornish pasty for this thread?
I have no room at work for shoe storage so have always struggled with the comfort v too Cornish pasty question... Hmm

MissBeehiving · 11/06/2014 19:22

On the subject of boxy tops I have this and there's a cream one which is lovely. Granted it's polyester but looks great with cigarette pants or a pencil skirt.

MillionPramMiles · 11/06/2014 19:35

Tory: have been contemplating some statement trousers (or cocktail trousers??) but not sure I can carry them off. Seen them look great on others but not sure I have the nerve....

MissB: is that top see through at all? I love the colour and shape. It's a lot shorter than the ones I tried on in Mango so might solve the tuck problem...

Very interested in any comfy commuter flats. Like others I wear converse and have a grand total of 7 pairs of heels at work.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 11/06/2014 19:46

Troy - TopShop do great tiled prints. I've seen those trousers and love the colour and print. Haven't tried them on.

The Daisy Tile trousers I tried on at TopShop are avail in a size 10 and a size 14 (one of each, on the last chance to buy rail) at Brompton Road TopShop. They are the nicest tile trousers that I have seen TopShop do, but all their blue ones are fairly similar looking w a lovely, small print (I find big prints hard to wear).

Mami - they look comfy. Although I admit the style isn't for me - I prefer lower profile (tyre talk) soles. Still, the commuter shoe thing is a real tension between how much comfort you need v's the style you want.

Beehiving - I think a shorter boxy top is the only kind that I can do. One that finishes above the widest part of me, so you can see that I am not just a straight line from boobs to hips.

Million - I have patterned trousers / cocktail trousers (Google "party pants Atlantic Pacific blog" and it will bring up my shiny purple trousers. DH loathes them. I just have to ignore that sometimes, and just wear what I think is fun. It's a but boring to be tasteful all the time, no?

Sorry, but I think those Clarks shoes are absolutely disgusting. Would rather look a prat in a skirt suit and Converse, to be frank! Sorry.

I always have at least two pairs of shoes and one spare jacket at work. I keep trying to remember to take a couple of packets of tights/stockings in too - for emergencies.

London was so warm today - I just wore a cotton top, cigarette trousers and flats (and a necklace!) and was absolutely boiling.

TroyMcClure · 11/06/2014 20:08

was cool in am here
we had a fricken fire drill

Bearleigh · 11/06/2014 22:11

My commuting shoes are by Geox, and look something like this in navy:

www.johnlewis.com/geox-euro-leather-moccasins/p903083?colour=Beige

They are smart enough to look OK with a coat, but are so comfortable I rarely walk in heels outside the office. I have 3 pairs of high shoes at work.
