Let's talk workwear. Maybe a little bit of non workwear fashion chat, too.

My blog is at theworkwearedit.com but our chat goes above and beyond that.

Tres tres Euro, Bearleigh.

What I always found hard - flat commuter shoes when wearing long, straight (ie not cropped and narrow) trousers. Those trousers really need a heel. But I also really needed to walk a long way, in a hurry.

i jsut want to buy you all cars Sad

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 11/06/2014 22:18

Would you drive me around, too, Troy? I think your chat would be good. I love in Central London - it's hard to find parking spaces. I just catch cabs if I need a car. However, I do also like to walk.

Haha Troy. I quite like walking, like Belinda, and it's good exercise walking, especially up Tube escalators, which I wouldn't get if I drove.

Belinda under those types of trousers I wear black shoes with a high but very chunky heel, and rubber soles. They give such good support I can walk quite a long way, and the rubber soles cushion well. They are also Geox -they do so many rubber soled shoes, that are good for city streets.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 11/06/2014 22:29

Bearleigh - you are writing my blog post for me Thanks Grin. Walking is v good for me - I don't do proper exercise, so I need to get moving, somehow.

My shoes are a bit like these:

mamijacacalys · 11/06/2014 23:06

Thanks for the geox links, have never heard of that brand before.
Winter is easy due to the array of boots available. It's the summer shoe thing that's hard. I can't wear Converse or any sort of ballet flat as my feet ache too much... Wish there were more 'comfy' ranges that were not Cornish pasty. Hope retailers are reading this! Smile

TroyMcClure · 11/06/2014 23:12

I might have to exercise a security council type veto a part founder of the thread. No more gopping shoes

RonaldMcDonald · 12/06/2014 02:53

very boringly I commute or travel in something like this from clarks but I think that are actually M&S from 12 thousand years ago.

They hide well under trousers and don't make my trousers drag around in the way flats might
They look fine with skirts/suits
I can march around very happily in them for a long time with no issues. Not very summery but I can't see me in wedges for work

RonaldMcDonald · 12/06/2014 03:01

I have some Pistols that I wear too but am bored to death by them now - new things and ideas are needed

Bearleigh · 12/06/2014 07:54

Belinda I've just seen your post about Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow's look, which I can emulate today if I just roll up the sleeves on my shirt, so thanks for the idea!

You mentioned a GAP shrunken shirt: have you ever explored GAP and Zara's boys' clothing range? I am a size 8, and admittedly fairly boy-shaped on top (flat chested with broad shoulders) but I find boys' tops age 12-13 fit me really well. One of my favourite shirts for work is a linen/cotton GAP boy's shirt, that cost £12, but the quality is such that it looks far more expensive. The sleeves are a little short but I can roll them up like Vicky & Gwynnie. Another favourite for the weekend is a Zara boy's indigo jumper.

noddyholder · 12/06/2014 09:02

I have several pairs of printed trousers all nice ones all going to car boot sale or eBay. Just feel too over done in them even with the plainest tops. May be ok for workplace but am putting them in my no pile. Bought a pair last summer from other stories which are subtle may keep those

noddyholder · 12/06/2014 09:03

Primark skinny suit trouser/chino in navy really good £9.

Stokey · 12/06/2014 10:47

Brogues are good for the commute - the Clarks ones are super comfy and quite like the look of their summer ones too.

My main bugbear with "smart" flats is that they are too flat, give us a bit of sole pls

FreeButtonBee · 12/06/2014 11:32

i am another Londoner with a drawer full of shoes/gym kit/essential toiletries. Otherwise my heels would last about 3 days before needing reheeled and I already spend faaaaaar too much money at the cobblers. I also have to dash between my office and the main company office building every day for meetings etc so work shoes get enough punishment without subjecting them to tube escalators.

I wear new balance trainers. or Bloch flats - They are expensive and leather soled but uber comfy and I get about 6 months out of them, which given how much i wear them , I consider okay value. Winter is easier as I wear a lot of dresses and just wear an enormous pair of winter boots with duvet coat and it doesn't matter so much.

My pink M&S shoes are a blinder. dead comfy - have even worn them on the commute, ankle strap has not dug in at all and make me feel nicely dressed up but can walk at proper commuter pace.

Still on spending ban but i am living vicariously through you guys.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 12/06/2014 14:52

Lots of really great commuter footwear chat, today.

Bearleigh - why didn't I think of the Gap boys section - v clever. Natalie Massenet said she bought white cotton boys shirts from John Lewis as they fit better. I will go to Gap again, soon (our closest one just closed. Not pleased) and see if they work for me. So glad you liked the post and could recreate the look with your own things. Very satisfying to find a new way to wear your existing things. One of the things I wanted to get across on the blog is the joy / fun of great workwear, too.

Free - good news on your pink heels - they sound great.

Hello, sorry I have been MIA.

There are lots of lovely work things in the &other stories sale at the moment, got some sale browsing to do tonight.

Still loving all of your links

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/06/2014 17:01

Ooh the pink heels sound great - I really like ankle straps.

Wore the Warehouse printed trousers for the first time today and got lots of positive comments from pupils and staff. Also got hooted at by a couple of white van men, which seemed v odd.

I'm still looking for a nice white cotton top, by the way. Fitted but not too fitted, neck not too high, short sleeves ideally, not a t-shirt.

TroyMcClure · 12/06/2014 18:31

wore the zara trews with the white knit top today - the top is great for a warm day

Tomorrow will activate my New look pollen print skirt. After a lot of discussing with my 11 yo ( he watchign ipad in my bath) we are going for a plain white v neck t shirt and a pale denim jackay ( as long as the Head doesnt see that)

TroyMcClure · 12/06/2014 18:31

TroyMcClure · 12/06/2014 18:32

TroyMcClure · 12/06/2014 18:36

Has anyone got last years Boden denim shirt? Slightly rounded collar that I am not sure about...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/06/2014 18:41

Not the flowery trews, no. I love the look of them but have never managed to find them irl

These are mine

Cba with Boden and faffing online tbh. Don't like that East one, soz.

TroyMcClure · 12/06/2014 18:44
