Hi, I hope no one minds me starting a new thread, I was about to post on the old one and then saw it was on 999 messages so I'm hoping I can get a link to this one on before it fills up so we don't get lost. Apologies if I've trodden on anyone's toes Blush

The previous thread is here

How did it go, Rapunzel? Any tips for me for Sunday?

It was great schmalex. Apparently I am a 'Gamine Classic'! The whole thing was very thorough- lots of measuring, personality tests, trying on different styles. I was pretty tired at the end of the day as it's quite intense, but I now have tonnes of very helpful info. You're given a chart with very specific clothing shapes to look for and things like skirt length, trouser shape, lapel styles and also types and size of patterns.
Apparently I suit 'structured' clothing, so nothing baggy or loose. Unfortunately I already have quite a lot of 'unstructured' clothes, that I now need to extract from my wardrobe! Might take a while, but at least from now on I know what to look for. I took about six of my own outfits along, as per instructions, but I actually could have taken more- so my advice would be to take along as many outfits and accessories that you can carry.
I'd say this was particularly useful for me right now as I'm returning to work after being a SAHM for four years, so we concentrated on suitable workwear. If anyone is thinking of doing it, it's probably most useful if you have a specific target like that in mind. Can HIGHLY recommend.

Interesting! I'm a Dramatic Natural, completely the other way around. Loved it! Now to get shopping.

I'd say the green dress is autumn, but I can't wear that colour as it was my school uniform ;)

Looks gorgeous! Not sure if I could wear that style but envy you if you can!

Hello Smile hope you don't mind if I join, I had a colour analysis today by HoC and am apparently a soft autumn. Am very surprised by this as always thought I would be a winter!

Have read this thread with great interest.

Hi Rah am still feeling quite puzzled by the colour analysis - I have very dark brown (almost black) hair, very pale skin and bright hazel eyes. I didn't always see a huge difference in the colours although burgundy looked terrible and I could see that bronze looked lovely.

Hoping to pick up tips and inspiration for makeup and clothes, and that I'll start "seeing" the difference more clearly soon [e.g. I still think I look ok in black!]

RahRahRasputin · 07/09/2014 14:39

I didn't notice a difference either, I still don't always 'get' it. I have a kingfisher top though and I've noticed that my face looks brighter and the different colours in my hair seem to come together. I also get lots of compliments and people tell me I look really well. It's that thing that they say at the consultation - no one says "that colour looks nice/I like your top" etc, they say that I'm looking well/lovely etc. but I got 3* at 100% for kingfisher, I don't notice such a dramatic difference with most other colours!

I had a rather bad experience at my consultation and afterwards I ignored it all for quite some time. I do recommend giving it a go though, even if you don't see the difference to start with. I feel a lot more comfortable and confident in my clothes now. I also like having a colour palette to stick to, now I know that most of clothes go with each other so I mix and match, whereas when I bought any old colour I had lots of tops that would only go with one bottom and vice versa, so I felt like I was wearing the same outfits over and over (which I was!) and that made me feel really shabby.

PS I clung onto black for ages too. It's only now that I've stopped wearing it that when I go back to it I notice how washed out I look. It pained me to give it up as I have lots of fairly expensive ( for a student!) black clothes. They're still in my wardrobe as I feel so wasteful getting rid of them, but of course it's more of a waste for them to go unworn!

Welcome Peonies! I had my colours done back in July and then followed it up with the style day just a couple of weeks ago. I would agree entirely with RahRah. It does take time to get your head around it all, but you will see it all coming together after a while.
I'm still in the early days- I reckon I've gone through about two thirds of my clothes now to work out if they're right. If they aren't the right colour, I'm not necessarily getting rid of them, but trying to combine with something that does work- eg. I bought a great pair of black jeans from Zara just before I discovered I shouldn't be in black, but now I just make sure I wear them with a star colour top.
Also- I thought at first that I was going to have to go out and buy a whole load of new stuff, which I really can't afford to, but realised that when I took a good look through my wardrobe, I already had quite a few pieces to work with already. I got such a thrill putting together some outfits from stuff that I already had, but would never have thought of putting together before.
Good luck and enjoy it!

Anyone know a good place to buy silk scarves that aren't Liberty prices? I'm looking for a small scarf, probably in teal/ peacock/ kingfisher type colours. Found this, but not too sure if I LOVE it.

I have an orange wrap cardigan from kettlewell, and regardless of how awful I feel, every time I wear it people tell me how well I look. So I agree, it's not so much that "that top suits you", and more "you look well" when you get the colours right.

Hi Peonies, welcome! If its any consolation I find some colours in my range are 'wow' and some are more 'mm not bad...' I have found playing around with Pinterest helps give you a short list of what to go see or order online as you can start to see what goes with what more easily. Enjoy!Smile

Do we think this could be close to apple jade? www.brora.co.uk/Product/Product.aspx?WebShopCodeStr=A4&WebSegmentCodeStr=S2&WebCategoryCodeStr=JC&StyleCodeStr=WQJ07&PT=1&PC=A4-S2-JC

And this coat is lovely, although perhaps not fitted enough - it's more of a dark olive than a true khaki www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/outerwear/double-breasted-coat-with-fur-collar-c269183p2039035.html

Lots of lovely (but ££) stuff in Anthropologie at the moment.

this sweater
posh cardi
dress

I also picked up a nice slouchy mustard t-shirt in H&M the other day.

I've found the style day SO useful! I feel like I can go in even the most young/trendy places now and just pick out the pieces that work for me and ignore the rest.

Fellow autumns, can anyone help? I'm trying to find an outfit for a hen do in London and posted on s&b but I'm mainly being told to wear black, despite saying I don't want to.
Any thoughts? I guess I'm particular after some slim / cigarette trousers in an autumn colour.
The thread is here if you fancy a look.

peonies I think it could be apple jade but I find it really hard to do the colours on screens, if they look close enough (and the shop does free delivery and returns) I tend to just order and see how they look in real life, although bit different with something more expensive.

That Zara coat is gorgeous, but as you say perhaps not fitted enough. I will keep an eye out next time I'm there. I tried the gorgeous mustardy greeny one linked up thread and I loved it but my shopping companions said the colour didn't suit me in that large a garment Sad

schmalex those are all lovely. H&M seem to have lots of autumn colours at the mo. I'm glad you found your style day helpful, I think I would really benefit from it. I have this idea of how I want to look but I never seem to get it right and tend to buy clothes that feel "safer". I will start saving up for one when I get a job :)

JenniMoo lots of people have suggested cigarette pants and blouse and blazer - is that something you'd consider? I think it could look smart but not overdressed, and would work for evening too. Tbh I'm not very good at this sort of thing. In a similar situation I would probably wear my orange flowered pencil skirt with a rust blouse and tan blazer, I might take heels in my bag for the evening. But a bit of a pain to lug around.

Oops sorry you've mentioned cigarette pants. Not seen any as such. Although there some nice teal smart ish trousers in H&M which would go nicely with a natural white top but not sure about jacket etc. and they're not skinny.
