Hi, I hope no one minds me starting a new thread, I was about to post on the old one and then saw it was on 999 messages so I'm hoping I can get a link to this one on before it fills up so we don't get lost. Apologies if I've trodden on anyone's toes Blush

The previous thread is here

I gave up looking for a suit. Even simple shift dresses for work don't seem to be made very often in brown, but there are 1000s of black ones!

Has anyone seen something that would be good for covering up to go out? I don't suit structured blazers, but a drapey one would work. Shrugs are out, as make me look even more rounded shouldery. I fancy something gold :)

Charitygirl1 · 05/12/2014 12:41

Hi never - royal purple is ok for autumns, and the second deeper purple in that scarf looks ok. The red looks a bit like the 'universal' scarlet, and the green looks tealy. The off-white is a beautiful safe bet tho!

bab - I'm sure I've seem suits in Top Shop and Asos recently in dark forest green. Perhaps not the most classic cuts though!

Charitygirl1 · 05/12/2014 12:44

bab - just looked at Austen Reed, tons of brown! And conservative natch.

BabCNesbittsSeasonalGreet · 05/12/2014 16:55

Ah, I would love to afford an Austin Reed budget, but Topshop is more my reality at the moment! Will have a look, Charity, thanks :)

shortaris1 · 07/12/2014 12:20

Bab we're ONLY allowed to wear navy, black or grey in my job so I always look slightly washed out and shattered at work!

KittyB52 · 07/12/2014 12:58

Zara has some blazers/jackets in potentially Autumn colours - no clue what they look like on, as the models look swamped in some of the clothes. Hmm There's also this, which is a gorgeous colour and not shapeless (rare as hen's teeth with current 'trends' Grin): www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/dresses/long-shift-dress-c269185p2315528.html

Massimo Dutti also have some Autumn stuff, including velvet jackets, which I used to wear when I was a student (and mine were from charity shops, and certainly didn't cost £125). Gorgeous colours though.

shortaris1 · 07/12/2014 21:47

Lovely dress Kitty though I struggle with Zara as a big norked girl! May rake round charity shops for an Autumn coloured faux fur coat at some point. Thanks for the reminder.

Rapunzel88 · 07/12/2014 22:34

Loving that Zara dress. Do we think this navy dress is autumnal? I'm never quite sure with navy..... www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Uttam+Boutique+Ponte+dress/196036260,default,pd.html

nevergooglebrandybutter · 11/12/2014 12:53

oh my, my zara dress arrived. it's gorgeous. beautiful colour and shape.

unfortunately it's a size too small even at a large. i'm going to keep it and use it as motivation for me losing the next stone. I'm 4.5 stone down on March 2014, fitting this dress would make me more or less my target weight i reckon.

Rapunzel88 · 12/12/2014 23:57

Making my wishlist for Santa. Love both these scarves, but which one is more Autumnal? www.jigsaw-online.com/products/botanical-silk-scarf-9872.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 14/12/2014 09:30

eek, I got so many compliments on a night out last night. not just the weight loss but my make up and green blouse from monsoon all worked well. I even wore lipstick when I wouldn't normally bother.

KittyB52 · 15/12/2014 07:03

Difficult to say about those scarves, Rapunzel but at first glance, I'd say the second one, as it seems to have a richer look to it. The first one is nice, but has that very bright turquoise.

Never, that's fab about getting compliments. And well done on your weight loss, that's great!

I have admitted defeat about getting an Autumn-friendly outfit for our works do this Friday. I will be wearing a tunic/dress with black (yes, you read correctly) scuba type leggings and these shoes (which I love, love, LOVE): www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?searchTerm=oxblood&storeId=12552&productId=17379081&urlRequestType=Base&categoryId=&langId=-1&productIdentifier=product&catalogId=33053

Tunic/dress has long sleeves (WIN), is cream, grey and charcoal (at least it's not black - partial WIN) and is a bit low cut (which is making me nervous, as 'the girls' are normally covered by layers of cardigan and scarf). Grin Still, everything else is covered up, so I reckon I can sport a hint of cleavage and get away with it. Just need to practise walking in those shoes...

nevergooglebrandybutter · 17/12/2014 13:24

Feeling rather pleased with these from the sale.

porridgecarver · 17/12/2014 17:22

Ohhh didn't realise this thread existed as haven't been on MN for a while, think I will enjoy all this autumn talk!!

nevergooglebrandybutter · 17/12/2014 18:02

welcome porridge, i'm an enthusiastic new autumn.

it's a little slow on here, do you all have wardrobes of perfect outfits already?

porridgecarver · 17/12/2014 21:33

I have a wardrobe full of things but tbh I don't feel happy in many of them as I find clothes to wear in cold weather really tricky. I am a petite person so layers and jumpers seem to make me feel like a round sheep

nevergooglebrandybutter · 18/12/2014 12:37

yeah, I'm only 5'2" so avoid chunky knitwear. although I prefer this time of year to summer as I'm jot confident with showing too much skin.

AllBuggiedOut · 18/12/2014 14:58

This Jigsaw jumper is perfect for keeping warm without bulk. Zip to neck so you can turn it down if you don't want polo.

KittyB52 · 18/12/2014 20:02

never those are great finds - love the colour of that top.

Hello porridge, and welcome.

I'm another petite who doesn't like too many layers. Am pear-shaped as well, so need more fitted clothes which don't seem to be 'in' at the moment. There are a lot of shapeless tops about, which are great for those who are slim (and relatively small 'up top').

And I am guffawing about the 'wardrobe of perfect outfits'. I have a handful of things in the right colours, and one or two which are also the right style for my shape. Everything else is stuff I'm too scared to get rid of in case I never find clothes I like again. Grin

nevergooglebrandybutter · 18/12/2014 20:56

I've had a massive clearout of stuff now too big, maternity wear, plus all the stuff in the wrong colours. My clothes now fit in the wardrobe and fit me, hurrah.

I'm so glad I did the colour thing before I started buying clothes again.

XmasTimeMissCostelloAndWine · 18/12/2014 21:40

Lots of lovely things linked! I love the shoes Kitty, they are absolutely gorgeous. never I also love those trousers but they're all sold out now Sad

Rapunzel I agree, second scarf seems better to me.

Welcome porridge

I don't have the perfect wardrobe, getting there though. I just don't have much of a budget at the mo so try to avoid temptation!

Aaaages ago I ordered a few ASOS bits, when they had the 20% off thing

I kept these:

Orange prom dress it's swishy. I'm not sure it's completely my style, but I really liked it and think it could be nice for the summer. I used to love Laura Ingalls' books when I was little and it reminded me of them! Grin

3/4 sleeve shirt I bought this in camel and in khaki. These are the first cheap shirts I've seen in autumnal colours. OK quality for price and will be good for future job.

teal cardigan really nice fit and lovely colour.

tan leather heels

Didn't keep these, but they might work for someone else...

wrap and twist dress - a lovely, bright red, but the fabric is very clingy and leaves nothing to the imagination!

nude satin tulip skirt I really liked this but the shape wasn't quite right for my broad hips, would suit someone with a more slender figure

Oasis primrose shift dress I ummed and ahhed about this. The background colour is a gorgeous green and seemed to tone well with the wallet, but it wasn't right for my graduation and I couldn't really justify keeping it for no particular reason.

Rapunzel88 · 19/12/2014 23:58

Nice haul misscostello - especially the shirts- what a bargain! I'm snuggled up in new mustard cardi still amazed at my bold new colour choices. Got 40% off this in a house of Fraser 12 hour flash sale which they've had a couple of times in the past fortnight. Worth signing up to their e mail alerts as you gotta be quick.

porridgecarver · 22/12/2014 22:28

Thanks for the welcome. Finaly got my H and M order through today, two skirts and two pairs of treggings

www.hm.com/gb/product/37684?article=37684-B lovely and soft with a nice bit of stretch and the perfect length for a5ft nothing person

www.hm.com/gb/product/51200?article=51200-A a bit out of my comfort zone but I love it on

www.hm.com/gb/product/28707?article=28707-E&fromSearch=treggings&cm_vc=SEARCH#article=28707-G These in petrol and mustard but I am a bit hmm as to whether to stick with the comfy larger pair or the smaller pair that are slightly snug but will be a better option if they get baggier with age. Has anyone had these before, do they keep their shape well?

Loving the look of the tulip skirt XmasTime, it is in a colour that is apparently good on me but that I own nothing in, unfort with no babysitteing prospects in the near future I fear it would sit unworn in my wardrobe

XmasTimeMissCostelloAndWine · 23/12/2014 08:32

Lovely clothes porridge, H&M are quite good for autumn colours, I've found. No idea about sizing. I bought some coloured jeans earlier this year and they've kept their shape well, but they're less stretchy than the jeggings.

I was up at 6 this morning for my Next VIP sale slot. Got quite a few things with the expectation of having to send most back. There are already some sale items on the website and then I assume the "VIP" things will be added to that tomorrow Confused I've ordered from both sections anyway!

Anyone looking for workwear, there were a few bits and pieces (I've ordered a mink jacket £15 from main sale page). Not many matching suits though, unless you're very slim!

There aren't any links for sale things but it's worth checking out, especially knitwear and also basic vest tops (£2 each!), and some nice bits in the "Designer" section :)

On the lipstick front, I bought a Marks and Spencer Limited Collection lipstick the other day. They are vegetarian and cruelty-free (with bunny symbol). It was £5 and I'm really impressed, in fact I prefer it to my freebie Chanel one! It has a lovely texture, really smooth. I bought Tea Rose and I'm planning to go back for Antique Gold. I'm sure there were more colours in the shop than online.

There are also some gorgeous Diego Dalla Palma lipsticks that I think would be suitable. They don't have the bunny symbol, but according to this they don't test on animals.

I'm rambling on, I hope everyone has a lovely day, and indeed a lovely Christmas :)
