Hi, I hope no one minds me starting a new thread, I was about to post on the old one and then saw it was on 999 messages so I'm hoping I can get a link to this one on before it fills up so we don't get lost. Apologies if I've trodden on anyone's toes Blush

The previous thread is here

Ooh, I like all those jumpers.

I am struggling to find anything I like at the moment. I can find either the shape/style but in the wrong colour, or vice versa.

HandMini · 28/10/2014 21:45

Hi Wise - I too have just been diagnosed as an Autumn.

Have to say I was slightly disappointed as all the winter colours were so pretty, but I was swayed by the way my skin tone looked when I was draped with the autumns.

I'm hoping for any answers to your post, as I too have a lot of black and grey in my wardrobe. Going to miss grey...

evelynj · 28/10/2014 22:08

Hi all

Long time no see, good to see autumn folk again. Hopefully think I have the same zara scarf as you-is it this?

www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/accessories/checked-shawl-c269207p2214002.html

Looks more autumn IRL. Mind you, I see there are lots more scarves now on the website.

H&m also have a tomato red & creamy white Christmas jumper in that I bought last year & wore a lot last December :)

MarthaCostello · 28/10/2014 22:23

Welcome to new autumns :)

I too was a bit disappointed. Mainly didn't want to give up my blacks and greys. I can't give any useful style advice, but I'm so glad that I have stopped wearing those colours as I feel much braver in my choices now and I look much less weary! :) I've found H&M great for autumn colours, especially when just starting out as they're quite cheap while you get a feel for what you like. You can keep wearing your non-autumn colours, especially on the bottom half. If you wear a top in one of your best colours then that should look fine. But I did find it easier to just go cold turkey! Grin

Hopefully thank you, I will try the red. I'm wary about reds as I find it much harder to tell the difference, same with purples.

Also thanks for brown tights tip, I'm wearing some today and love them! Much better than black.

Ditzy71 · 28/10/2014 22:39

I have a question. I thought Autumns could wear grey if its the right shade?

CMP69 · 28/10/2014 22:41

Goodness me! Marking place for a good read soon.

KittyB52 · 29/10/2014 07:42

I do love the Autumn colours but it is so much easier to find clothes in black and grey. Oh, and there's a lot of burgundy, pale blue and pale pink about at the moment too.

I found some nice things at Oasis, but all have been sent back. Am waiting for an H&M order and hoping that some of the items will do as I am in desperate need of some work clothes. The styles aren't completely right for me, but they are at least in the right colour. I know I'm not supposed to buy anything that I don't love, but I neeed (note the extra whiney 'e') work clothes. Here's what I have ordered:

A thrilling (Grin) cardigan:
www.hm.com/gb/product/26862?article=26862-A

A dress which will probably not suit (and which I most definitely will NOT be wearing with those sock-boot-gaiter things):
www.hm.com/gb/product/51089?article=51089-A

Another dress which I will wear with a cardigan over the top because ARMS:
www.hm.com/gb/product/34627?article=34627-C

And this, because I am a scarf addict:
www.hm.com/gb/product/32162?article=32162-C

I am afraid I will be pairing Autumn colour tops with black/grey trousers until I get myself sorted out. It's not ideal, but I just cannot find things I like at the moment. I am trying to look more at dresses and skirts, but being short, I am restricted still further with what I can find. MEH. Grin

MarthaCostello · 29/10/2014 09:35

Ditzy yes, we can wear lizard grey, it has a sort of yellowy undertone, but it's quite hard to come by and none of my existing grey clothes were suitable. I assume that most people don't have many lizard grey type colours in their wardrobe unless they've deliberately sought it out.

Also, I found it easier to move to colours I hadn't worn previously, or had worn suitable shades of, so that I wouldn't be tempted to keep on buying unsuitable colours.

Kitty I have the cardigan in the oatmeal colour (not sure it's 100% autumn) and I'd recommend making sure it's quite tightly fitted as mine sags quite quickly during the day, but does spring back to shape after washing! Those sock book things are certainly interesting... Grin

I hope you like your purchases. The advice to only buy what you love is all very well if you have limitless funds and time to spend shopping, but if you need clothes, you sometimes have to settle for something not perfect :) I'm sure the tops will look fine with non-autumn trousers, especially if they are your best colours.

If you have a Sainsbury's nearby they had some nice bits in a mustardy colour and some rust too. I need to get a job so I can justify buying some nice workwear! Grin

Hopefully · 29/10/2014 09:46

Sainsburys also have a nice bright tomato red poly-silk shirt in, which tones well with the geranium swatch. I haven't bought it, but I might...

Kitty I love all your H&M buys, let us know what they're like! Don't worry about pairing with black/grey - I reckon it takes most of my clients around 18 months to shift the majority of their wardrobe over to their colours. I always get them to promise me that they won't buy anything new that is disastrously wrong, and the rest just falls into place Grin.

Ditzy what Martha said re greys. Saying that, I think some other colour analysis systems give autumns grey, but having often worked with autumns who need me to 'give' them a proper work suit colour (i.e. black, grey or navy), it is rare that I give them grey over navy. It has happened, but generally I have found navy is better for the autumns I've compared the two on (which is only a small number).

evelyn my zara scarf is a bit more chestnut, it's this one. I think they have basically the same scarf in about four colours - there's a red version too.

KittyB52 · 29/10/2014 09:58

Yes, I suspect I might need a smaller size in the cardigan, as the H&M knitwear I've had in the past does go baggy.

I have a few nice bits from Sainsburys, will have another look this weekend. There's 25% off TU clothing until Monday as well, so more reason to have a look. Grin

CMP69 · 29/10/2014 10:03

Wow lots of lovely things there ladies. I think I need a childfree trip to H&M

i have had a few successes (I think)

in victoria blue

breton top in tobacco and thistle

in aubergine

in foliage

Also saw these on another thread but don't really need can't justify new shoes atm

CMP69 · 29/10/2014 10:26

Oh and finally stated on my make up (only lippy so far but its a start)

in 001

in one of the coral shades can't remember which one it's lovely and something i would have never chosen.

I must have looked a right twit, wandering round boots with my make up card, testing colours Grin. Has anyone tried Boots colour matching service hwww.boots.com/en/No-7/No7-Make-up/No7-Match-Made-Service looks interesting, but I didn't have time the day I was in.

WiseKneeHair · 29/10/2014 15:35

Wow, some great ideas here.
CMP i especially like those boden cords. I'm still looking around for trousers and they would be great for home and more informal days at work. I'm definitely going to have a look at Sainsbury's as well.
Ive ordered a few Kettlewell bits which hopefully will come in the next day or so, but I think I will be sending the skirts back as they are likely to be too long. Either that or if I love them, I'll ask my MIL nicely wether she can take them up Grin
I think I missed the tights advice. What colours do people wear? I have been sticking to nude and navy at the moment as the only other colour I have are black. Do I need chocolate coloured tights? Or any other ideas?

CMP69 · 29/10/2014 17:34

The cords are lovely on Wise but I am 5'9" and the long ones aren't that long Sad but they are fine with boots

HandMini · 29/10/2014 20:19

Thanks for all the ideas.

A PP suggested a lovely yellow cashmere cardi from Boden. Did you get it and was it nice - I'm very tempted but would love your advice as it's quite expensive.

I found two lovely jackets in Zara today, one brown and one which calls itself khaki (which I think hit/ the right olive-y / lizard-yshades that we Autumns can do) - www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/blazers/blazer-with-contrast-piping-c269184p2233538.html and www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/blazers/buttoned-blazer-c269184p2137609.html. I bought the khaki one and it's lovely and warm and quite smart but weekendy.

HandMini · 29/10/2014 20:21

Also bought some black jeans (sorry, I know!) and a top which I really hope is oyster, but I have to say I find creams / oysters / off whites really hard. I know we're not meant to wear pure whites, and I can recognise and avoid those, but all the rest is the same to me.

KittyB52 · 30/10/2014 20:55

I love that khaki blazer, HandMini.

I am already starting to think about what to wear for our works Christmas do (starts at lunchtime with Christmas meal until 4ish, then drinks until you are suitably refreshed Grin. Last year I wore a kimono jacket thing with a vest top and black trousers, but obviously black is out this year.

I can't do skinny trousers of any kind because I'm short and pear-shaped, so I'm guessing I'll have to find a dress to wear. Which then throws up all kinds of sleeve/shoes/tights issues.

Anyone have any party outfit inspiration for us Autumns?

LeapingOverTheWall · 30/10/2014 21:13

I have this lipstick which has been getting compliments recently.

Also some M&S "jeggings" which are skinny jeans (albeit in a softer fabric) in reality, in a "slightly darker than shade 21" can't think of a descriptor atm colour - they don't seem to be on the website, but in store they are stacked on a free-standing unit with beige ones (which would also work, but in my case DD2 had already bought some Sad) and some other colours which we ignore as they are for non-autumns Wink.

I've found Sainsburys to be pretty good for tops over the summer, I reckon the buyer is an autumn.

RockMummy · 30/10/2014 22:27

Tights are not really my thing, much prefer leggings as they are more robust and don't fall down quite so much, however when I do wear tights I wear brown or teal opaques or nude fishnets.

evelynj · 30/10/2014 23:33

Hopefully ?I've now added that scarf to my tartan scarf collection!

Leaping, lippy looks good-I think it might be the one I've been flirting with at the airport the last few times I've travelled-bought a YSL red one like that but the colours not quite right.

Also bought mac lady danger recently which is a really great matte tomato red but quite drying.

KittyB52 · 01/11/2014 15:29

My H&M order has just arrived and I am really disappointed.

The long sleeved dress fits fine, but the fabric is a bit odd and 'rustly' and I know it'll annoy me when I'm wearing it. Fail #1

The cardigan is 'adequate'. It's slightly too big, but the next size down would be too tight. The sleeves are, as always, cut with gibbons in mind. It is the right colour at least, but massively uninspiring. Fail #2

The scarf has too much navy in it. Fail #3

The 'petrol' dress is a lovely fit, apart from at the shoulders - am wondering if I could get it altered. However, it is not 'petrol' but more of an emerald green, which isn't an exact colour match for Autumn. Plus I wouldn't wear it as it is, I don't do 'arms', so would need a cardi or something over it. Potential Fail #4

Why is this so hard? Confused

HandMini · 01/11/2014 21:06

Ahh, Kitty, bad luck, but thanks for coming back to warn your fellow Autumns.

KittyB52 · 01/11/2014 21:45

To be fair, the dresses are nice and might suit other people - particularly if you're not short and averse to baring your upper arms. The dresses were both knee length on me though, and I'm just on 5 foot 'tall', so not sure what length they'd be on anyone of average height. The beige/brown dress was longer at the back than the front, so it would probably cover your bum...just. Grin

shadesofwinter · 02/11/2014 09:47

Hi Autumns, just coming here to ask a question if you don't mind (not for me, I'm a Winter!). My brother is putting together a shopping website based on HoC seasons (e.g. if you were looking for something in mustard you'd click on the Autumn page and the relevant colour and it would give you links to items currently available in the shops). He's trying to include the range of colours as close as possible to HoC but doesn't have their list of colours for Autumn (between us in the family we have all other seasons!). Do you know if there's anywhere he can find the list?

Hope that makes sense and thanks...!

MarthaCostello · 02/11/2014 11:03

Hi shades, that sounds really good. My consultant said she was doing something similar, but when I looked, it hadn't been updated for years and only had three things on. One with online links would be much more useful.

I looked for an online list when I was first diagnosed and couldn't find an official one, but if you look on Pinterest there are some autumn lists and also the Kettlewell colours website has suitable colours too.

Kitty sorry your order was disappointing. I got some nice bits recently, but had to send quite a few things back as well.
