I couldn't be a midwife, being there at my own labours is enough for me.

libertychick · 29/04/2014 17:08

Shop I got daggers looks from my SILs and my mother when I cut across a very long and boring conversation of comparing birth stories by saying 'well, the babies have to get out somehow' Smile. I am sympathetic but I have a family of people who dine out on the horrors.

OneLittleLady · 29/04/2014 17:15

Thank you everyone. I can't quite believe it yet! Thanks

shopafrolic · 29/04/2014 17:15

What do people think of the 5th birthday designer collection on the Outnet? Hmm here

Turquoiseblue · 29/04/2014 17:17

CONGRATULATIONS One SmileWineThanks

Super news

Secretsquirrel13 · 29/04/2014 17:20

Pregnancy and birth is just something I'd rather forget. Liberty I'm with you I've never seen the fascination with the endless re telling of it all.
One very good news well done!
Dry GrinGrin you are spot on and going to miss it all with your gallivanting off to London!
This thread is bad for me. I'm now contemplating 3 different kinds of shoe (def the gigis) but also some Felicia flats too.

Topazandpearl · 29/04/2014 17:21

Congratulations One, how exciting!
How lovely of DH, QueenC.
That is funny Dry, I don't do conference calls but DH does so I think he will appreciate it.
I like going to the hairdresser. Mine opens 6.30 am so I can go before work and not have to waste all Saturday morning. It is mostly regulars who go at that time so we have a good chat and a laugh. And I like the way they do my hair.

Drywhiteplease · 29/04/2014 17:22

I HATE birth horror stories especially at the dinner table....v bad manners, and poo stories too, unnecessary and puts me off my chocolate mousse.
I'd be "oh stop wailing and get on with it".... Still wonder how women did it in the olden days without pain relief. My birth plan was succinct "epidural, pref general anaesthetic".....

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 29/04/2014 17:24

Dry sounds like we should set up an alternative midwifery business Grin
QueenC what a romantic DH you lucky lady

Secretsquirrel13 · 29/04/2014 17:25

Just seen that too queenC you are very lucky he sounds kind and thoughtful.

MarshaBrady · 29/04/2014 17:26

I actually love a good birth story.

But I have never watched OBEM.

QueenCadbury · 29/04/2014 17:28

dry you'd hate our dinner parties. Lots of poo talk (dh sticks cameras up bottoms Grin!!). My birth plan sound pretty similar to yours.....epidural as quickly as possible please for dc 1 and 2 and a section for dc3 so that I don't have to go through childbirth again!

QueenCadbury · 29/04/2014 17:33

Just realised that reads as if dh sticks cameras up bottoms at dinner parties Grin. It's definitely in a professional capacity that he does it!!

Drywhiteplease · 29/04/2014 17:35

Shop and Dry's midwifery services.....no nonsense, no sympathy, swear as much as you like but do it quietly. Grin

Queenc I have medic friends and hate dinner parties with them, it's gross! they have NO limits...."more coffee anyone" Smile"will you stop talking about gore!!!"

shopafrolic · 29/04/2014 18:00

And I'll have the gas and air! Brilliant idea.

Fedupnagging · 29/04/2014 18:29

Dry have just shown dh the conference call link-he found it hilarious and said its 'spot on'. He is now going to share it.

Years ago ds3 walked into the study whilst dh was on a speaker phone conference call saying loudly 'daddy, can you wipe my bottom? Cue a very Blush dh although apparently everyone saw the funny side.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 29/04/2014 19:00

Haha QueenC! My sister is a paramedic and supplies all the disgusting stories in our family (including some about bottoms). Luckily we are all v juvenile anyway!

LOL Fedup that's so funny.

Am chuffed, I got home to a letter telling me that I got a payrise, and it's pay day tomorrow, yay!
BUT I have a massive spot on my cheek that is so painful. :( Sorry TMI. Think I need a dermatologist or to go back on the bloody pill

Sleepwhenidie · 29/04/2014 19:11

One - what brilliant news ! So pleased for you.

Grin at the thought of Shop and Dry midwifery - if this were Dragons Den, I would be OUT!

QueenCadbury · 29/04/2014 19:32

So, my latest purchases are...
shoes. I love them. I ummed and aahed about whether I should keep them as I do have charcoal flats in the cupboard but they are more an autumn shoe wherea these are definitely summer. I will wear them lots as long as it is warm and dry. Keepers.

jacket. Don't think I admitted to ordering this. Ordered it as one of the party's will be outside for a BBQ so decided I needed a new jacket. However ordered a small and it's huge on me. Don't think I cba to order an xs so therefore I obviously don't love it enough. Back it goes.

blouse. Lovely print and I know it's meant to be floaty but honestly I could fit a 9m bump under it. And I ordered size 6. Back it goes.

blouse. I sent the recent patterned grey blouse from esprit back as decided it wasn't the perfect flattering shade of grey for me (can't find it online anymore to link). This however is a shade darker and looks so much better. 3/4 sleeves so great for transitional wear. Keeper.

blouse. I've got the grey version of this and love it but I don't love the white. It's just a touch too creamy rather than stark bright white for me . Back it goes.

BrandyAlexander · 29/04/2014 19:39

Congratulations One!!WineThanks

OneLittleLady · 29/04/2014 19:59

I have officially accepted my offer, I am now the resident student Grin

shopafrolic · 29/04/2014 20:04

You'll get an NUS card One discounts ahoy!!

maradesbois · 29/04/2014 20:10

one congratulations!!! Wine Thanks Sounds like you worked really hard for this, really happy for you.

queenc aww, what a lovely gesture from your dh. Shows he's well tuned in to your feelings.

linus sorry you can't make mu, was looking forward to meeting you as think your style is the most similar to mine from what I can tell on here.

Hairdressers - I quite like it as have been going to the same one for years and we have a really good chat about interesting subjects. Don't have the kind of cut that needs too much attention or do colour etc though, if had to go more often would be a bit of a faff.

blair well done on your pay rise. For dermo try the sk:n clinic chain if there's one in your area, you should be able to get a free consultation. I go there for glycolic peel for general skin maintenance & think its brilliant.

shop I saw the outnet stuff and didn't really get the idea behind the collection nor was that fussed on any of it. Starting to sell out already though.

Well, my fashion news is that bought these pumps today. Am a bit peeved though as even though I love them the sa told me they were one of this summer's colours but turns out they are last years and thus should surely have been reduced? It was at an actual superga store too so feel a bit like they cheated me. Maybe am overreacting but its more the principle than the money.

Drywhiteplease · 29/04/2014 20:11

Great shopping QueenC. ESP love the jacket. Btw do you have Boden "favourite cropped cardigans"? is the Pope Catholic? are they fitted? I have at last binned my fav old, bleach spattered, slightly discoloured red fitted cardi it fitted exactly as I like which is why it's successors have never managed to completely take over and now need a new one the 2 other red cardis just aren't right thinking of looking in London (Benetton, Uniqlo) but am wondering about Boden.

LinusDKD · 29/04/2014 20:27

Well done MrQueenC! Getting flowers when you don't expect it is always lovely.

mara I will still try to come to the MU but haven't had the chance to speak to DH about it yet.

I could never be a midwife but only because I get a bit queasy when I see blood. And I have a very continental attitude to childbirth. If I can do it without 'help' that would be great, but if that doesn't work out I will take any help drugs I can get.
