are fishnets appropriate for work?

I love patterned tights and work in an office environment. Would fishnets be too much? I'd wear them with pencil dress, cardigan or jacket and heels

No problem at all, as long as not worn with a mini and 6" heels

IrishBloodEnglishHeart · 06/04/2014 11:55

Go for it. Sounds like a good outfit combo.

Saurus72 · 06/04/2014 11:58

Your outfit sounds great. But how can you wear fishnets without major foot pain where the net bit digs in and your toes hurt?

LilyRose88 · 06/04/2014 11:58

I think it depends on what you wear them with, and how formal your office dress code is. The can look very elegant if worn with a knee length classy skirt or dress. Flesh-coloured fishnets look great in the summer too.

Floggingmolly · 06/04/2014 11:58

They're far from standard office wear... Don't think I would.

kelhen · 06/04/2014 12:02

Definitely will be knee length dress or skirt. Heels not too high. Office dress code is not very formal, in fact I'm the only one who wears dresses or skirts as I love them.

In the office I work in, probably not. Patterned ok but not fishnets.

Saurus72 · 06/04/2014 12:05

I really don't like nude fishnets - I think it makes people appear to have a terrible skin condition, excema-like.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 06/04/2014 13:27

I used to wear nude fishnets to work (City lawyer). I was the only one doing them, but they weren't hugely different enough to raise eyebrows. They were micro fishnets, from Agent Provocateur, and I had to be careful to match the colour to my skin, as with all nude tights.

I wouldn't.

AnyFucker · 06/04/2014 16:06

I wouldn't but I can see in some environments it would be ok when not combined with high heels and short skirts.

FrugalFashionista · 06/04/2014 16:20

In Italy they are the normative transitional office look, many of the women working in nearby government offices seem to wear them to work. Avoid those that look stag night / Moulin Rouge and experiment with nude /soft white fishnets and you'll be fine. If your corporate code is ultra restrictive and your life depends on it, then maybe not Wink

Swimmingwithsharks · 06/04/2014 16:20

Nude, micro fishnets yes, any other sort I would say no.

AmberNectarine · 06/04/2014 16:27

Depends on your job rather. I wouldn't and I am quite the boundary pusher when it comes to office wear.

Mignonette · 06/04/2014 16:33

Small weave fishnets with slingback pumps or blocky shoes will look amazing this Spring. I often wear them both in black and other colours. Not the large weave though. They need to be really good quality ones- cheap will look cheap and it is what you wear them with that counts.

Go the pencil skirt/nets with red shirt and you'll look like an off duty Crazy Horse dancer. Wear them with something diametrically opposite in vibe and it's going to look cool.

FrugalFashionista · 06/04/2014 16:42

This time of the year, I see lots of faux fishnets that look something like this. Can be very stylish with the right outfit if you have great legs.

BeginnerSAHM · 06/04/2014 16:43

I'm a city lawyer and I wear them sometimes. Very fine ones though and I prefer the nude colour ones.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/04/2014 16:52

I wear them for work - my legs are never good enough to bare and I get through nude tights at a rate of knots. I see loads of them in professional environments.

Mignonette · 06/04/2014 16:58

In a mad Miu Miu moment they can look great over a sheer tight in another colour too. You need to have that outlier courage and couldn't imagine it going down too well in suit land although I think it'd look great with a city suit!

The shoes have to be amazing with this look though.

AnyFucker · 06/04/2014 17:00

Two pairs of tights ?

polkadotdelight · 06/04/2014 17:04

I'm a big fan of nude fishnets but tend to buy them as hold ups.

Mignonette · 06/04/2014 17:09

Crotchless Any Grin Or cotton gusset.

Having a husband who once danced professionally I know all about the two tights-peril Wink

Matsikula · 06/04/2014 17:15

I wear nude coloured micro fishnets lots in summer. I am very pale and my legs would not look city smart if they were bare, and I prefer the matte look to the shininess you get with flesh coloured nylons, especially with lighter colours. And earlier this week I wore black micro fishnets (with sheer black tights underneath- I am a total stranger to thrush incidentally) to make a very conservative outfit look less frumpy. But I dress very soberly/minimally, v little make-up, no coloured nail polish, not much jewellery, no stilettos, no bare toes in the office, ever! So it also depends what your look is.

ditavonteesed · 06/04/2014 17:21

depends are you a hooker?
