are fishnets appropriate for work?

I love patterned tights and work in an office environment. Would fishnets be too much? I'd wear them with pencil dress, cardigan or jacket and heels

Yes- I've never had Thrush. Sounds grim.,

BeginnerSAHM · 06/04/2014 19:35

Black or navy pencil skirt, neutral colour mid/kitten heels, nude fine 'mesh' fishnets, cream silk top, cream cashmere cardie with natural make-up and understated small pieces of good quality jewellery - doesn't really scream hooker....

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 06/04/2014 19:40

Neither do the professional services provided... Smile

satsumagirl · 06/04/2014 19:42

This sounds like an awesome outfit! Fishnets are ace Smile

MsAspreyDiamonds · 06/04/2014 20:53

Not in my work place, gossip spreads like wildfire!

Legologgo · 06/04/2014 20:54

wouldnt have thought twice about them

BeginnerSAHM · 06/04/2014 21:34

Ah well, seems stuffy city law firms are less, err, judgmental/gossipy Wink. Who'd have thought it? (Pretty sure I'm not viewed as a slapper but I could have been totally oblivious these last 15 years...) (And actually more often wear fishnet pop socks with 7/8 length 'cigarette' trousers. I know, I know, totally wanton...Blush)

BeginnerSAHM · 06/04/2014 21:37

Oh yeah, but totally understand barristers can't. Judges would be prone to getting the wrong idea. Nothing but black (skirt) suits in court. So don't wear them if you're a barrister!

QueenQueenie · 06/04/2014 21:44

I worked as a barrister for 20 odd years. I often wore micro fishnet tights in summer as well as trousers... also navy and grey as well as black.

InTheRedCorner · 06/04/2014 21:54

I've just started wear Ing micronets because my legs aren't fit for daylight work time.

I struggle with sizing because I'm never sure whether I should buy medium because I'm a size 10 or large because I'm tall Confused

Trills · 06/04/2014 21:56

I always buy large tights because medium ones are not long enough.

It absolutely depends on your office, and I don't think we can help you much there. Try it and report back?

Mignonette · 06/04/2014 21:56

The judges will bloody well have to get used to it and maybe, as we gain more female judges, we'll be able to wear what we darn well want within the bounds of reasonable propriety.

I can dream can't I?

BeginnerSAHM · 06/04/2014 22:24

Ah good Queenie! I obviously know quite conservative barristers then...

I love MN!

pilates · 07/04/2014 08:24

No

Legologgo · 07/04/2014 08:26

It's low cut tops that worry sentences more. When you're sitting up high..

Legologgo · 07/04/2014 08:26

Sentencers

MrsMarigold · 07/04/2014 09:22

Maybe I'm out of the loop but aren't they a bit dated? Ten years ago they were fine but not now... I used to wear them loads but not anymore, back then Spanx did the best as they didn't have a fishnet pants area so you avoid waffle butt and the toes were also more comfortable. I used to get them in harvey nicks or figleaves.

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/04/2014 10:16

I wouldn't call them dated tbh. I see lots of women around my age wearing them for work

Mignonette · 07/04/2014 10:52

Nothing is dated when you wear it in a fresh way or look good. Everything references the past- even Karl Lagerfeld despite his protestations.

FrugalFashionista · 07/04/2014 11:02

Corner leg length trumps body size. I always size up! Quite a few tights have size conversion tables and they seem to encourage this.

Mig love the look and agree that fashion is cyclical. I wore a lot of fishnets when I was younger no male colleague ever complained - even doubly layered - and most things I wore those days have had a comeback...

Loving all you subversive lawyers Wink

BreakingDad77 · 07/04/2014 11:25

You might get a bit more male ogling than usual.

Moreisnnogedag · 07/04/2014 11:52

No. But then if I wear heels to work everyone comments.

JohnCusacksWife · 07/04/2014 19:06

It wouldn't even have occurred to me to ask the question! Fishnets (micro weave not large weave) are perfectly acceptable in the office.
