Portly you look amazing

Mckayz · 28/03/2014 15:10

Portly, I love your hair! I'm rubbish at doing my own hair so I keep practicing.

ThePortlyPinUp · 28/03/2014 16:01

Thank you, I'm a bit crap at setting it but have to dye it tonight so thought I might stick my rollers in overnight and leave them in until tomorrow night when we got out, I have plenty of chiffon scarves for over the top. I'm getting better at victory rolls but its taken loads of practice. DD1 made sure my parting was straight and plaited it for me today Blush

So many great tips to follow up on. Thank you!

Mckayz · 28/03/2014 16:06

I watch a lot of Cherry Dollface's videos on YouTube. But she makes it look so easy!

LadyPenelopeCreightonWard · 28/03/2014 16:21

Hello, can I join you lot?

I like 50s and early 60s (think Bewitched) style. This was my latest buy. This is the neckline. With my hair backcombed and with a french pleat it looked really good, very similar to a vintage one I have.

I do a lot of rock n roll and swing too, and after a night out the other week I'm very tempted to get a proper petticoat.

ditavonteesed · 28/03/2014 16:31

love the colour of your hair pinup. I always end up looking like a who when I try and do anything exciting.

Hi mrscumberbatch-am a nc-er but am sure you can guess who I amWink

Yes I will be stalking the website for the Let it Rock tickets! really want to do the Torch club too but don't know if I could get any of my friends to go as they turn into pumpkins after midnight(allegedly)

I have managed to persuade one of my friends to come and see lou hickey next week-have you heard of her? She's a retro style singer who hosts the Too darn Hot nights at Blackfriars-again something I would love to go to if I had any non-boring pals!!!

mrscumberbatch · 28/03/2014 17:51

Haha I had my suspicions. Turns out my spidey senses were right!

Yes, Lou Hickey is a great local talent. My dad was a huge velvet club fan. (He's always ahead of the curve- I just pick up things from him!)

I am determined to do the Torch club this year, at least we know what to expect this year and I can be more prepared. I was a blithering wreck by noon last year- genuinely didn't expect it to be so busy!

Latraviata · 28/03/2014 18:10

Well I will definately see you thereWink

ThePortlyPinUp · 28/03/2014 18:20

Thank you dita and sunshine I colour and cut my fringe myself, I always have a bright colour block on the underneath of my fringe so that it cuts through. I've had pink, red, blue and purple so far, considering green for the next round of bleaching and dying. The all over black I just get from poundland, after ages of trying to cut my fringe with sissors I now do it with hair clippers, I get a better shape that way. It's really low maintenance I just blow dry it until it's almost dry (couple of minutes) then using a small round brush to curl it under a bit and then use loads of hairspray Grin I should be dying it now as I have loads of grey coming through but I'm too tired tonight so will do it in the morning.

Latraviata, the vintage festival in Glasgow last year was fab! I'm due to give birth when it's on this year and while that's clearly more exciting I am strangely gutted to be missing it!

I'm a big fan of 20th Century Foxy - beautiful clothes and really well made. I kitted out my bridesmaids from there and the dresses were fantastic.

Mckayz · 28/03/2014 19:17

I love Iron Fist shoes, I'd break my neck though.

tethersend · 28/03/2014 19:30

Will you accept applications from 1970s obsessives? The 50s are just not my bag, man Grin

I buy most of my clothes from eBay and etsy.

ThePortlyPinUp · 28/03/2014 19:33

Lol tethers it's my fault I should have just put vintage quiche with no date! we're happy to chat about all era's :)

None of the hairdressers I've used will cut mine short enough or shape the corners in properly so it's a kitchen jobby now Grin most of my friends use mini straighteners to round their fringes off but I find a small barrel brush is just as good, and if I cock up the cutting it doesn't notice once it's curled under a bit Grin
Just had a result, friend from college texted me to see if I want to buy worn once Lindy Bop Ophelia frock, her sister has bought it for a party and won't want it after, what a result!

ditavonteesed · 28/03/2014 20:31

explain how you do your fringe with clippers please, I do mine with scissors but it always take a week of messing to get it perfect, just done it now. I just bast mine with a curl brush and hairdryer.
