You naughty ladies have made me buy this.... as I need the larger of the sizes it is a bit longer so will hopefully hide my knees.

SUNSHINE Original Factory shop had some similar shoes but with a bit of a squidgy wedge. The ones I tried on were dark pink almost red

Brittapieandchips · 30/04/2014 10:58

Hi everyone, can I join in?

Getting rather excited for Hullzapoppin Lindy hop weekend Grin

Brittapieandchips · 30/04/2014 11:08

My Lady V dress just disintegrated, although to be fair it was slightly too small so maybe dancing in it put it under too much strain.

I mostly wear Lindy Bop, as they are cheap and included in Amazon Prime, although I have other bits and bobs from various places too. I keep saying I'll buy less dresses but better quality, then I see a pretty cheap dress and buy it... I'm rubbish!

Brittapieandchips · 30/04/2014 11:18

Latraviatra... I think I might have met you! At the vintage thing at Haydock last year I met two women from Glasgow I think... I had blue hair and a kind of sailor style black and white dress, and I was there with my friend (who is now my DP)

If it wasn't you that's a coincidence Grin

ThePortlyPinUp · 30/04/2014 17:12

mrsc your hair looks fab! I have hundreds of different rollers and lotions and still haven't got round to setting my hair, I usually wear either a high ponytail, bandana and poodle/beehive or victory rolls and snoods. My hair really needs cutting to a more manageable length but it's my security blanket Grin

Dita I'm very Envy at your Freddie's and jumper I'm rushing to their stall as soon as they open at Hemsby to see if they have any bigger sizes in the sale range and then they will be my target to fit into, hopefully by our honeymoon in October.

One I saw those shoes in primary and thought they were fab! I'm getting some as soon as this poxy spending ban is lifted Grin

Yes britta-it was me that you met at the retro revival festival! I really want to go this year too but don't know if it's worth it when it's only on until 5pm.

Trying not to spend any more money on clothes although I may have ordered a Voh boleroBlush

ps-congratulations portly!!!

ditavonteesed · 30/04/2014 19:09

portly what yu wearing to get married in?

Mrsc love the hair, I gave up on anything fancy with mine, just down or high pony tail and the occasional bandana.

ThePortlyPinUp · 30/04/2014 21:59

dita the lindy bop Ophelia in ivory, with red petticoat and a leopard print ribbon around the waist. We're on a very tight budget so everything is either home made or cheap Grin

Too excited by dancing to take photos of every change of clothes (we are in lessons 10-6 then social dancing from 7:30 till the early hours so a lot of fresh clothes are needed...)

Here is a post social dance photo from last night. Outfit survived remarkably well...

Musetta · 05/05/2014 11:38

Sounds great britta-I still can't find any lindy lessons that are a)easy for me to get too and b)are on at a suitable time-it sucks!

I was really disappointed yesterday as was supposed to be going to a 50's event that was very local to me-rare as hen's teeth!-but my friend cancelled and I did'nt think it would be much fun on my own.

Been having a look at the glasgow vintage festival but they bumped the prices way up since last year-I am sure it has nothing to do with the commonweath games being on at the same timeHmm

Brittapieandchips · 05/05/2014 17:24

Lindy Hop has literally changed my life. I'm evangelical about it. I always thought I couldn't dance until I got dragged on to a floor, shown how to rock step, triple step, triple step and off I went! Grin

Unfortunately, we're currently travelling an hour each way for our lessons, for various reasons. I was lucky that I could get to low key sessions near my house when I was first starting, until I got hooked and wanted the larger scale lessons anyway.

My main tip is to avoid places that don't rotate partners - one of the main skills (and excitements) is lead/follow, and if you only practise with the same person you are basically learning routines. Any teacher who encourages that won't be any good. Also, social dancing with a variety of people (try and get to events with new people) will improve your dancing massively and you should do it as much as you can manage from the start. I didn't have a lesson at all for my first few months, just social danced and warned people I was new - kind people showed me the basic steps and gave me pointers, then I went to lessons to improve.

Musetta · 05/05/2014 17:38

Problem is I have 3 dcs,no babysitters and a dh who works crazy hoursSad Plus the fact that I appear to only have fair weather friends. Am determined to try and get to more events this year though-even if it means I have to drag my dh and dcs with me!!

ThePortlyPinUp · 05/05/2014 21:32

Britta you're tips are spot on, I've learnt so much from dancing with different partners. We are rockabilly jivers though and there is a distinct lack of lessons in our neck of the woods.

Only 4 sleeps until I'm off to Hemsby RnR weekender, my hair has been dyed black, bleached my fringe and I'm off to bed with lagoon blue dye on it Grin now just to decide what to pack!
