Can someone explain how the bra measuring method everyone on here raves about works?

Seen a few thread titles alluding to it but could some please explain exactly how to measure yourself? Desperately need new bras but usually guess my sizes.

anyone else feel like they need sorrel or statically to come bra shopping with them?!

SorrelForbes · 17/03/2014 11:50

I'd love to Grin [bossy emoticon]

I have decided to order some 28 back bras to try. I'm just under 30 when I measure 29.5 maybe, 29 if I pull really tight. the 30 back I'm wearing I've had it for around 3wks and I'm already able to do it up on the tightest hook and can pull it a good couple of inches from my back. but it was a desperatation buy!

outtheothersidefinally · 17/03/2014 12:18

I'm 29.5" underneath and 38" around. Really?!
First fitting post baby (now almost 3! and stopped Bf a year and 4m ago).
Help! I'm very slim and used to wear 34b or c. Feel they have gone a little droopy in the past 2 months.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/03/2014 12:45

Start with 30ff

outtheothersidefinally · 17/03/2014 13:20

Thank you. Which brands are good?

LyndaCartersBigPants · 17/03/2014 14:44

I was disappointed to see how few bras were in stock in a 34 in bigger cup sizes. I usually wear 38D-DD but having used this method I came out at a 34Gg. I tried a few on but the largest cup size in a 34 was F which seemed to fit me really well. However, not much choice. Most of the Fs were 40+.

Perhaps if shops stocked a better range of sizes we wouldn't all be wearing the wrong ones!

DottyP · 17/03/2014 16:02

Could you advise me please! I've just measured 33" underneath and 41" around. I am currently wearing 34DD but spilling out over the top and at the sides. Find most bras really dig in where the wire stops under the arms.

SorrelForbes · 17/03/2014 16:03

outtheothersidefinally Panache, Cleo, Fantasie (a bit matronly!), Freya, Fauve, Curvy Kate, Tutti Rouge, Bravissimo, Lepel, Masquerade, Ewa Michalak (and other Polish brands)

SorrelForbes · 17/03/2014 16:05

DottyP Try a 32FF/G and a 34F/FF. The wire of your 34DD is probably in the wrong place, hence the digging in.

DottyP · 17/03/2014 16:39

Many thanks - I'm off shopping!

outtheothersidefinally · 17/03/2014 20:44

Thank you sorrel!

Pleaseandthankyou · 17/03/2014 21:13

Help please. I measure 34 and 44. I have lost some weight. I was wearing 34f but there is some room in the cup at the strap. Any suggestions

hillbilly · 17/03/2014 21:34

32 and 37. Have been wearing 34D but by this it looks like I should be 32DD!

marriednotdead · 17/03/2014 22:02

Good evening Smile

pleaseandthankyou your measurements suggest 34GG but if there is gaping at the top of the cup, it may be that the style also needs to be different. A plunge or balconette tends to tip the breasts towards the centre of the bra but if you are a little softer than before, that can be unhelpful. A higher wire in the centre and vertical seams on the cups often helps.

Sorrel, not all Fantasie bras are matronly and if their shapes suit you best, then what?!

SorrelForbes · 17/03/2014 22:04

Pleaseandthankyou what type of bra is it as your measurements suggest a 34GG? Is it a moulded bra as they tend to gape on a lot of people?

hillbilly yes, try a 32DD which is the same cup volume as your 34D. If you scoop are you getting any over spill or quad boob?

Pleaseandthankyou · 18/03/2014 09:04

thanks Sorrel and married. Sorrel do you have a link to a size I could try

hillbilly · 18/03/2014 10:29

Thanks Sorrell - no, no top overspill but sometimes have underarm overspill :-(

HazleNutt · 18/03/2014 10:53

ladies, can you recommend something for me? I need some smooth bras, preferably not molded, but something where the lace and seams would not show through t-shirts. I usually wear Fantasie Rebecca for that purpose, but would like something more uplifting, so maybe there are some models I've missed. Freya Deco is nice but a bit stiff. Fantasie Esme flattens me.

I get along better with Freya and Fantasie than Panache, but have all kinds of brands really. Don't like Curvy kate, too soft and boobs tend to not fill the bottom of cups, but fall out.
Bottom-heavy boobs, very close together, so anything with high wires hurt. Between 30H/32GG at the moment.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/03/2014 11:01

Funnily enough one of the best I have for not showing is my ewa sm bezyk. It is lace but it's very smooth and a good nude colour.

HazleNutt · 18/03/2014 11:16

I never tried ewa's - remind me again what the sizing is like?

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/03/2014 11:35

The sm is snug in the back -compared to the fantasie I have tried before it might be as much as a band size smaller on that specific bra. In general I wear my Freya size in em which is Ok for me-although my deco size is different as I find it huge

SorrelForbes · 18/03/2014 13:04

I find that the Panache Idina doesn't show through tshirts.

hillbilly I'd try a 32E and possibly and F too to try and help with that.

beckslovestimmy · 19/03/2014 09:28

Ooh help please, measured 35 underneath and 43 on top. What sizes shall I try? Smile

SorrelForbes · 19/03/2014 10:24

beckslovestimmy Try a 34FF/G and a 36F/FF. I suspect that the 34G will be the best fit.
