Can someone explain how the bra measuring method everyone on here raves about works?

Seen a few thread titles alluding to it but could some please explain exactly how to measure yourself? Desperately need new bras but usually guess my sizes.

Ah I see it was 37/49 not 49 so yes, that makes sense - 36HH/J to start with

HappyTalking · 16/03/2014 20:37

Thanks for you help.

Can't wait to try some others on

FuckyNell · 16/03/2014 20:40

32/33 44? I would appreciate some help please!

SorrelForbes · 16/03/2014 20:42

Try a 32H/HE as a starting point

SorrelForbes · 16/03/2014 20:43

Grrrr, 32H/HH

happyoverhere · 16/03/2014 20:51

35/44 is that a 36G? I have hideous underarm bulges :-(

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/03/2014 20:52

Try 34GG, 34G, 36G, 36FF. What are you wearing just now?

happyoverhere · 16/03/2014 20:55

I was wearing a 36D but felt it did not fit (I was getting fatter!) so went up to 38DD but its no better.

cartoontrickster · 16/03/2014 20:56

statistically don't your bras dig in and leave marks if you can't swivel them? I find it really hard to put a bra on with out doing it that way.

happyoverhere · 16/03/2014 20:58

Have filled my shopping basket in M&S and will give them a try, thanks for your help

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/03/2014 21:11

I do get a mark, but it's just like the mark that I get from socks or similar - they're not sore.

Noooooo happyoverhere please don't but them from M&S. They're pretty shit tbh for larger busts, inconsistent sizing, skip the FF cup and don't generally have the right designs. Have a look at bravissimo, brastop, mycurvesandme, amazon!

happyoverhere · 16/03/2014 21:13

Luckily they have changed M&S website and I can't order a thing from it! Will try the others instead

FluffyDucky · 16/03/2014 21:42

Right, I finally got around to measuring the girls! Could someone please kindly convert my measurements, 29 under 37 drop. Tar!

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/03/2014 21:44

try 28G, 28FF, 30FF, 30F

FluffyDucky · 16/03/2014 21:46

F, G or FF, really?! Bloody hell!
I know what I'm doing on my next day off!

Flibbertyjibbet · 16/03/2014 21:50

That's an interesting comment that M&S just make each bra the same but bigger, without any engineering or different proportions for the different sizes.

Explains a lot. Last time I looked on their website I was horrified at the larger busted ladies modelling their bras, seemed to be like two bin lids stuck on someones chest, all out at the sides, and nothing forward.

I will never ever look in there for bras again.

Btw my fave is a Freya one from Debenhams. Right up and at em boobage with that one!

FuckyNell · 16/03/2014 22:14

Cheers sorrel

Lota · 17/03/2014 03:24

Thank you so much. I have been wearing 34AA for years and never happy. Just thought I was too small to even qualify for bras!

EarSlaps · 17/03/2014 07:03

I'm 29 under and 35.5 dangling (34 standing up). I know most Freyas are a bit too big on a 30 (I can stretch it out a bit even on tightest hook) but nowhere round here (Bristol so hardly in sticks) stocks 28s. They're even hard to come by online. The girl in HoF said she's a 28 and keeps begging them to stock them in store but they claim there's no demand.

Certain styles do not suit me at all- I'm very wide of boob and bottom heavy. I like balconette styles in a padded fabric as anything else squashes me strangely or I don't fill one bit of the bra and overspill another bit.

I'm currently wearing debenhams presence bras in 32D which are a pretty good fit actually (one is perfect on the band but the two in another style are slightly big on the band) but it would be nice to have a bit more choice. I know I can technically buy loads online and return, but that's a big hit to the credit card and a bit of a hassle.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/03/2014 07:45

Day trip to Cardiff? I think they have bravissimo and leia. Otherwise online is the sensible option tbh. I'd suggest looking at curvy Kate on brastop especially the padded balconettes like tease me, the Freya patsy half cup and the bravissimo branded half cups.

Cleanandclothed · 17/03/2014 09:12

Bump for me? (Gave further details up thread).

EarSlaps · 17/03/2014 09:42

Yes, the girl in HoF did recommend leia Smile. I think I'll give online a try first and see how I go there first. I could really do with a strapless bra too (I've lost weight recently and would love to wear some nice strappy tops I never felt comfortable in before), that will be fun!

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/03/2014 10:02

Try the wonderbra ultimate strapless in a 30- it runs small in the back and kicks the ass of every other strapless I've tried.

diamondlizard · 17/03/2014 10:04

oh im going to try this

EarSlaps · 17/03/2014 10:47

Good tip thanks Smile.
