Can someone explain how the bra measuring method everyone on here raves about works?

Seen a few thread titles alluding to it but could some please explain exactly how to measure yourself? Desperately need new bras but usually guess my sizes.

Sorry for the hijack, but can someone help me. I measure 30 underneath and 40 on top which would make me a 30GG (?!) but I have breastfeeding, tennis ball in a sock, type boobs so that just seems crazy. Especially as I'm currently wearing a DD!

Yes but what band is the dd? Cup size is relative to back size

I've gone up a bit since I've been pregnant. I seem to measure around 28.5 underbust (closer to 29) and 39 over the top. My boobs are just huge!

Ah okay I see. I was wearing a 36DD. I knew that was a bit big for me though, I just hadn't brought any bras for ages. Thank you! I'll give 30GG a try.

A 36dd is designed for someone measuring about 41" overbust... Just a lot bigger underbust

jasmine31 Try a 28F/FF and a 30E/F.

A 28FF has the same cup volume as a 32E. Have you got any overspill/under arm bulge etc. in your 32DD, if you scoop?

I am obsessed with remeasuring my self. but since the first time I used this method I have been pregnant and had the baby( he is 9.5wks old) so lots of changes. but to be honest I've never found the purfect bra no matter what size I was. I always wear a 30 back but I fluctuate an inch or so from my slimmest to biggest. my bust measures an ff.. at the moment.
I scoop but find it never all stays in place. sometimes the back rides up but I feel like its cutting in and leaves horrible marks I wear them on the middle or loosest, on the tightest hook I get a fat roll under the front.
I hate the lace thin full cup type bras they give me an awful shape.
I went into my small local branch of house of Fraser for a bra. I couldn't cope with the pain of my too small e cups any more. I find hof really good for bras although prefer Bluewater as more choice but the staff have always been very good and I know they are checking the fit properly. well she couldn't find me a bra to fit. I'm inbetween cup sizes and seem to have a more exaggerated difference between each boob than before not hugely though. I brought an f because its better than my e's but we both knew it wasn't much of a good fit. its not amazingly comfy but is tons better. I tend to stick with freya because I like them and thats pretty much the only brand my local hof stocks in my size.

Thanks Sorrel! No definitely no overspill in 32dd. There is some in 32d with scooping! I shall try those sizes though I suspect I might find 28 band too tight...I haven't thrown away all my 34s yet!

jasmine31 A 30E will have the same cup volume as a 32DD so I'd start there and then make sure you try 28Fs too in some brands.

cartoontrickster You should always wear a new bra on the loosest hooks. If the band is riding up then it's too big and it's probably digging in because it's sitting in the wrong place. I struggle to get a good fit/shape in certain brands (e.g. Freya, Fantasie) so you may find that you need to try some other makes.

I wear a 30g but have overspill in the middle, especially on the left. And if I scoop it's even worse, obv. But when I've tried a 30gg I have cavernous gaps at the top of the cup, or wrinkling around the nipples.
Oh, and my shoulder straps always dig in, even though my band couldn't possibly be any smaller. Thanks.

Statistically challenged - hi :) couldnt find other thread i posted on re measuring so thiught id post here; under boobs is 33inches and over boobs is 44inches!

Does that mean I am a J cup?! Jesus!

Did the measuring. Then went and got measured. Exact same result, so either were both mnetters, or have both got it wrong!! Now own a load of shiny new super colourful 34E bras. Megaboobies!

Fuck! Just looked at the measurement guide on this thread, according to that i think im an H cup?? Or am i being thick? I couldnt be, could i? realises why bras never fucking fitted me before

at 33/44 I would say to try a 32HH, 32H, 34H and 34GG. The 32 is more likely IMO
