widening the argument

LivUpNorth · 13/03/2014 13:40

are these too high?

I like these, but couldn't wear them because of the round-the-ankle strap.

LivUpNorth · 13/03/2014 14:08

"If you look at men's shoes and sandals, you see comfortable soles and beautifully stitched complicated leather uppers. For the same price women get a piece of cardboard and some PVC stings to hold it on."

God yes, I'm constantly amazed at the stupid bits of tat that pass as women's shoes. But I guess someone must be buying them Confused

Though to be fair, as we have said, the choices are limited. Which is odd, considering that women's shoe styles must be much wider in scope than men's.

foxdongle · 13/03/2014 14:09

when I first saw salties I thought forget contraception just wear these.

frumpy old woman with knee/ joint problems- yes
toddlers- yes
anyone else stay well away ffs

IamInvisible · 13/03/2014 17:42

These look comfy NoComet, and apparently have been in Elle magazine, so I guess we all need to rush out to buy them! Wink.

I think you'd have to see them in RL.

CuntyBunty · 13/03/2014 19:23

I wouldn't wear court shoes or stiletto type "spindly" shoes either, though I wouldn't be caught dead in the Salt Water institutional sandal. How about Fly London shoes? They are padded. The look quite high, some of them, but they are on a little bit of a soft platform for a bit of height. They are my funky, comfy shoe of choice. ART shoes and sandals are cool to, as are El Naturalista.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 13/03/2014 19:29

foxdongle you just made me shoot tea out my nose!

agree with OP

mumsnet swears by is like a frumps charter

Nocomet · 13/03/2014 19:42

The fly ones are fun if a bit expensive and the Clarks ones are just my sort of colour. Only trouble is they are plus fit and I'm normally not.

Comfortable shoes often are (big grip of DD1's who's nice soft Ks pumps she uses for school are just a bit loose).

PrimalLass · 13/03/2014 19:43

I think Fly London sandals are hideous.

CuntyBunty · 13/03/2014 19:45

Not compared to those Salt Water things, they aren't. Smile

IDismyname · 13/03/2014 20:15

This is what we (who were kids in the 70's) are talking about:

Jesus Sandals

My mum said that if you've worn the fashion once already, then don't wear it again!

Too many of this years sandals are a real throwback to those^^

PrimalLass · 13/03/2014 20:32

To me they are CB. It's the crinkly sole. I love wedge sandals but those just look awful. I have great bondage wedges from Clarks though.

PrimalLass · 13/03/2014 20:33

I had those Jesus sandals - loved them. We lived on a river estuary and they were perfect for puttering on the beach.

Shimmyshimmy · 13/03/2014 20:34

Have you seen Fly sandals OMG they are truly horrid shoes and El Naturalista aren't a big step away from Hotter

TSSDNCOP · 13/03/2014 20:42

Why, why did I google.

Dragon butter had nothing on those monstrous articles.

You'd only wear them if you hated fashion.

Shimmyshimmy · 13/03/2014 20:43

Those Jesus sandals are a real flashback - had hidden them away in a dark corner in my mind....I'm sure I had a pair!

CuntyBunty · 13/03/2014 21:02

You got me bang to rights there shimmy, they are gopping. I should have said "selected styles" from the brand.
Those ones you linked to are too "court shoe" style to be nice, they are like hooves or trotters, or something Grin

Flangeofmingetown · 14/03/2014 19:39

Now I love a fugly shoe but even I draw the line at those saltwater feckers.

IamInvisible · 14/03/2014 21:28

NoComet the "plus *" in the Clarks sandals stands for the cushioning in the sole, it's because it's dual density or something. They are standard fit.

I thought I'd post so you wouldn't miss out if you did like them. Smile

GemmaPomPom · 15/03/2014 06:49

Jesus Creepers!!! Had forgotten all about those Grin

50shadesofmeh · 15/03/2014 09:01

I love my saltwater sandals but I have the style that they suit , retro shift dresses . Many of you on here are barking up the wrong tree as don't even wear the sort of style they suit and should stick to wearing those hideous ASH wedge trainer things.

Flangeofmingetown · 15/03/2014 09:31

Birkenstocks are back in this year......

never stopped wearing them

Nocomet · 15/03/2014 09:47

Thanks iminvisible I'm tempted to try those on.

I have two pairs of sling back flat sandals which drive me bonkers because I just end up standing on the heel strap.

Pumpkinette · 15/03/2014 09:54

They are ugly but could be worse:

Worse.

I will stick to my good old Birkenstocks (we only get a week or 2 of sun anyway)
