Make up on the train

failingmammalian · 07/03/2014 06:16

Is it acceptable to do your make up on the train .. Powder blush mascara and lip balm. Nothing gross like eyebrow plucking
I do get some funny looks. Isn't it normal/acceptable?
What's a girl to do?

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 12:40

Nugget I see you find smelly food to be unreasonable.not all do,so it's not universal
Can you see, that just as you find smelly food unacceptable, others find make up application unacceptable
Make up has odour,it's pigmented in colour,i find it's public application unacceptable

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/03/2014 12:41

You don't have to watch-look out the window!

scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 12:42

Lipstick face, eugh.like the kat slater come and get it pout

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 09/03/2014 12:44

I cannot take anyone seriously who cites one of the reasons for public make-up application being unreasonable as, "it's pigmented in colour".

Won't somebody think of the children????

NuggetofPurestGreen · 09/03/2014 12:45

'Old slapperati' charming. Considering I was about 22 when I used to do this not sure that's apt.

Thinking women are gross for putting on makeup sounds like a personal issue to me.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/03/2014 12:46

I can't take anyone seriously who complains about the way in which a women applies lipstick. For goodness sake!

NigellasDealer · 09/03/2014 12:47

no i do not think women are gross for putting on make-up, just for doing it in public. Blame my mother and granny, I dunno.
christ i really should do some work instead of wittering on here Grin

VortexOfDisaster · 09/03/2014 12:48

Dame I realise your post was directed at me. But what I am saying is that you have been quite scathing of the views of anyone who has come forward to say the don't like people putting on make up on trains. You got quite upset by it being called 'minging' (sm's term?), but if you are going to be so dismissive of the views of others, then it's not going to be possible for anyone to seriously put forward their views. I sympathise with more flippant remarks made instead.

Nugget it is similarly easy to dismiss views you don't agree with as 'stemming from personal issues'. All of our opinions stem from personal issues, that doesn't make them less valid. As I said, it is about having a bit of consideration for the views of others.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 09/03/2014 12:51

Sorry I meant thinking women putting make up on in public is gross sounds like you have issues to me.

And yes I am a bit ire-y about this. This thread and the other one about how women should accept being called their husband's names makes me wonder how we are ever supposed to get anywhere with equality when so many women are misogynists.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/03/2014 12:52

Quite scathing? I've not even started, blimey!Grin

Quite upset at the use of minging? Err, nope, odd choice of phrase which I may have questioned until someone up thread explained it's a common term in Scotland.

NigellasDealer · 09/03/2014 12:54

i am not a 'misogynist' and felt very strongly about keeping my own name and giving it to my children.

I would feel the same if a man was putting on make-up on the train or putting in his contact lenses or whatever.

you seem unable to accept that other people might have different views to yourself and so start throwing insults. First of all it was 'ishoos' now it is 'misogyny' ffs.

trixymalixy · 09/03/2014 12:55

I might not agree with scottishmummy on this point but I always enjoy her eccentric posts.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/03/2014 12:56

And no one has 'seriously put forward their views' as far as I can see, just used awful language to describe a perfectly normal action ( excluding anyone who is actually throwing powder around the train carriage)

NuggetofPurestGreen · 09/03/2014 12:59

I can accept different views when they are articulated well and have solid reasoning behind them. Not just 'it's minging' over and over.

Re misogyny I was specifically referring to people who went on about 'unbecoming' ' trashy' etc.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 09/03/2014 13:01

Also Grin at accusing me of throwing insults. So calling me 'bogging' 'disgusting' 'minging' 'vile' 'trashy' and an old slapperati isn't throwing insults?!

NigellasDealer · 09/03/2014 13:01

oh right fair enuff, i can see 'unbecoming' and 'trashy' do sound a bit ...er....woman hating actually.
do love the word 'minging' though Grin

trixymalixy · 09/03/2014 13:04

Agree Dame, I'm quite happy to have consideration for other people's views but no one has put forward any particularly valid reasons. If your make up application is sending makeup over others then that's clearly not acceptable, if the smell is overpowering then not acceptable. But all the people I have seen put makeup on on the train have done it in a discreet non smelly manner not affecting anyone. But the mess and the smell are clearly not the real issue here as both are usually non existent.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/03/2014 13:06

I've just had a read back , not sure it was me who got upset at the use of 'minging' at allConfused

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/03/2014 13:06

Let's not forget 'tasteless.'

Mim78 · 09/03/2014 13:10

Of course it's ok. Not harming anyone as long as you are careful.

If you have busy morning, Dcs to get ready etc it saves vital minutes.

No worse certain.y than drinking a coffee.

scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 13:15

Moomin given your track record in posting, nor do I take you seriously
Your inabily to post without resorting to claiming I'm clearly unhinged Or off my rocker
Or you simply don't likey my posts..

NuggetofPurestGreen · 09/03/2014 13:18

Think that was me Dame. But I didn't get upset about it particularly I just got tired of reading the word over and over with no qualification as to why it was minging...

procrastinatingagain · 09/03/2014 13:19

Well this has developed into a frank exchange of views hasn't it Grin

scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 13:20

Make up On train is bogging and yuk.up there with other low level intrusions that one ignores
Smelly food, feet on seats, loud sound leaking headphones, all low level annoyances
And fortunately op started thread,as she knows by the funny looks that it is bogging

SoleSource · 09/03/2014 13:22

I totally agree with DameDiazepam

Who gives a fuck, better than a lot of other stuff people do in public. Spitting, passing up walls, showing their bare arises.

Get a fucking grip!
