Make up on the train

failingmammalian · 07/03/2014 06:16

Is it acceptable to do your make up on the train .. Powder blush mascara and lip balm. Nothing gross like eyebrow plucking
I do get some funny looks. Isn't it normal/acceptable?
What's a girl to do?

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 12:05

No rules, ticks,or compulsions here.i just think make up on train is bogging

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 09/03/2014 12:10

Evie I tend to start reading when scottishmummy posts

I like how she is obviously unhinged and always
presses 'enter' halfway through a sentence like she is
pausing. I like to read her posts in the style
of William Shatner. It
works.

I'm a face painter, I may start doing face paint train parties just to really get you all clutching your pearls and catsbumfacing.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 09/03/2014 12:12

Moomin that's brilliant. I'll go back and read them in the William Shatner style now rather than waste any more time trying to make sense of the make up naysayers.

scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 12:12

Most of us silently tolerate things we don't like, like food, loud music, loud phone calls
Having said that,I did once ask someone to stop the make up faff next to me
she had two pots sparkly loose eyeshadow balanced on her knees on shooglie underground

NigellasDealer · 09/03/2014 12:15

Grin what did she say SM?

scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 12:16

I'm bemused at the disproportionate ire this provokes in the slapperatti
unhinged and William shatner, well that's a comedic partnership
the slapperatti that knowing majority think theryre mingers, causes them psychic distress so they need to demonise others

itsbetterthanabox · 09/03/2014 12:17

My point is that if something slightly bothers me but I can see that it is me being irrational then I need to deal with that not everyone else.
If something actually is rude or intrusive then it's obvious because everyone will be bothered by and some people including me will say something.

SirChenjin · 09/03/2014 12:17

A bit of lip gloss or lipstick - fine. Full makeup, involving flicky flacky brushes and powder flying about the place, or smelly perfume, hairspray or nail varnish - absolute no-no.

VortexOfDisaster · 09/03/2014 12:18

Dame, I think you are illustrating my point. For a variety of reasons people have expressed their view that being involuntarily subject to someone putting on make up on trains bothers them. You have chosen to dismiss these views and are indicating that you don't respect them.

So, it doesn't really matter what views are put forward here, you are going to continue to do as you please. That's your choice, but you can't really condemn scottishmummy then for being facetious about your attitude.

scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 12:19

She said nowt just glowered, gathered her loose pots closer to her, continued smoky eye with dexterity of an excitable toddler

NigellasDealer · 09/03/2014 12:20

Grin + real laugh - you should write haiku

scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 12:23

Majority silently tolerate things we dislike eg smelly food, loud music, yak on mobile
It's not worth the arse ache of complaining, so no I don't speak up
Don't assume because people don't comment that apply make up in train is acceptable

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/03/2014 12:23

I didn't condemn Scottish mummy vortex. My post was addressed to you.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/03/2014 12:27

Actually,I think I would have done the same as Scottish mummy if someone was about to tip sparkly eye shadow all over me, but at the same time I wouldn't get angry about everyone putting make up on the train.

LIZS · 09/03/2014 12:29

oh dear looks like another mn fail for me. Did this for years when I commuted as I valued sleep more than style. Always had to hope I got a seat!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/03/2014 12:31

Lizs-couldn't you do it one handed standing up?!Wink

scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 12:32

Ive never been angry about make up application on a train.ever
I've had concrete thought that's disgusting, manage your time better you disorganised slattern
But as I said, the majority silently tolerate things they dislike.its not worth the arse ache of complaining

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 09/03/2014 12:32

I rarely travel by train these days but even when I did, I'd put my make-up on beforehand, so I assure you I'm not part of the 'slapperati'.

I'm just calling it as I see it - your writing style is ridiculous, you come across as being off your rocker and if something like people putting make-up on in your presence causes you so much distress, maybe you shouldn't leave the house just in case you see - god forbid - someone taking their jumper off in public on a warm day, or - shock, horror! - having a drink, because they should've thought to rehydrate themselves before they left the house, the abominable slatterns.

trixymalixy · 09/03/2014 12:33

I totally disagree with you on the reasons for someone being uncomfortable being unimportant vortex. Or that the onus is always on the person making them feel uncomfortable to stop.

For example a person discreetly breast feeding on the train. I'm sure plenty of people would feel uncomfortable about that, but really that's their issue, they are totally in the wrong.

I am not comparing a need to bf a baby to putting on makeup btw before anyone picks me up on that. Just pointing out that other people's issues should not always be accommodated.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 09/03/2014 12:33

Yes Vortex, Dame is dismissing the views not because she is an inconsiderate person or does as she pleases, but because the views expressed seem to stem from very personal issues that the objectors have, rather than any understandable reasons which would affect the majority of people such as smelly food or wanking.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 09/03/2014 12:35

or what trixy said.

scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 12:37

Moomin,so far you've called me obviously unhinged off my rocker
I think you need to de-personalise mn,not be so het up
It's permissible to dislike a post,it's not really done thing to personally attack as obviously unhinged off my rocker

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 09/03/2014 12:37

scottish have you considered that maybe it isn't that the majority disapprove but are silent about it - it's that the majority really couldn't give a shit either way, so the so-called 'slapperati' continue doing it, and those who feel offended by it sit there and seethe and hoik their bosoms, consoling themselves that everyone else feels the same way when really, they don't?

NigellasDealer · 09/03/2014 12:39

anyway nugget i do not have 'personal issues' i just do not want to watch some old slapperatti doing her lipstick on the train, esp that 'lipstick' face.
actually i am not even that bothered as i usually now drive everywhere.
haha imagine doing your make-up while driving!

trixymalixy · 09/03/2014 12:40

I actually think putting make up on on the train is quite efficient time management. If I could be arsed to put makeup on in the mornings I might do it!
