Does anyone think that KK looks good in this outfit?www.telegraph.co.uk/news/features/10678020/Keira-Knightleys-waist-sensation-lets-not-be-waspish.html
I realise a slight optical illusion is at play with the silhouette but it just makes me feel squirmy and think of her organs and bones. I also don't like the idea that impressionable girls might think that having a nothing waist is desirable.

Don't like the dress but somehow she can get away with wearing something like that. There are worse dressed celebs.

I have to admit, I didn't used to like her circa 2003 Pirates/ Love Actually/ Doctor Zhivago because she was everywhere! Perhaps, it's the films that I watch happen to have her in it. She's grown on me, I wouldn't say that I'm a fan but she's good in some more recent things she's been in.

I don't like all the unkind comments about her looks and apparent lack of intellect that seems to crop up over and over again. She looks like Natalie Portman and played her double in Star Wars. Nobody's ever rude about Natalie's face are they?

MaryWestmacott · 05/03/2014 22:11

Claudette - I'm guessing it's basically the 'magic knickers' material - not really restrictive like a proper corset, just sculpt slightly.

the top and the skirt are bigger than they should be to create the illusion.

She's not an 'unrealistic' body shape, shes a real woman - for a lot of woman it's a perfectly realistic body shape. It's so stupid to suggest she's creating an unrealistic goal for all woman, some would never be able to look like that, lots will if they want to.

No one ever looks at pictures of overweight woman and say they are worried impressionable girls will think it's a desirable bodyshape, you don't like the way she looks and wanted to start a thread slagging off another woman's body you don't deem to be attractive, but by suggesting that girls would stop eating because of this photo, you get to 'critically discuss' another woman's body in a way that would get you a thread full of anger if you'd started one about a woman who's body is large.

thenightsky · 05/03/2014 22:27

It makes a change from all the usual floaty, strapless, backless stuff. Will be interesting to see how the high street adapt this look, which I'm sure they will. That version worn by Rhianna that someone posted is more mainstream and VERY flattering.

Twinklestein · 05/03/2014 22:31

I can see it on Asos now...

TheJumped · 05/03/2014 23:00

Yep and River Island and Topshop!

alexheartbeauty · 06/03/2014 10:41

MaryWestmacott - On the whole I think KK looks great in her clothes. I just don't think it's a good idea for a popular/role model actress to wear something that makes her already small waist look even tinier and child-like. I'm not slagging off her body but slagging off her dress and questioning her judgement or that of the people who advise her.

You're right, no one does look at pictures of overweight women say that impressionable girls will think it's a desirable body shape because being overweight isn't celebrated in western culture but thinness is.

I became anorexic for a while as a teenager after dieting in order to look like thin models and actress. There are campaigns to ban size 0 models because of the negative influence they have over teenage girls and the link with anorexia.

I don't think slim/thin people should feel have to hide their bodies under loose fitting clothes for any reason. But there's a big difference between that and an influential and already slim actress wearing an outfit that gives her an exaggeratedly tiny waist, especially when it's going to be photographed a thousand times over.

Kiera Knightley's minuscule waist
cowsarescary · 06/03/2014 10:51

Kato, that will be in the daily fail before you can cough again ...

KatoPotato · 06/03/2014 10:53

I'm waiting for the internet to go crazy for it!

MrsPMT · 06/03/2014 10:53

I think it looks quirky, yes she's showing off her tiny waist but so what?

I think if my waist was that tiny I'd want to show it off too Grin

She's not anorexic looking, imo, she looks slim & healthy.

Plus, I agree, its the proportions of the skirt/top that make the middle look slimmer.

tryingtoleave · 06/03/2014 10:57

The dress is ugly but I don't think her waist looks absurdly small. I would say my waist looks almost like that and I do my best to accentuate it. I try to conceal my thighs, which are not so slim. I think it really odd that posters are describing her waist as child like.

NotMushroom · 06/03/2014 11:02

I like KK and usually she gets it right imho but that oufit makes her look like an insect.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 06/03/2014 11:07

She's not gaunt. She's just naturally like that.
I'm not sure if I like the dress, it's not pretty but it is very clever.
I do a similar look with a shorter top over a vest top and find it's flattering. My waist being one of my better bits.

flowery · 06/03/2014 11:16

It's not artificially constraining her waist, it's artificially making her chest and hips look bigger.

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 06/03/2014 11:17

I like the dress, it's quirky and different. I like that she's not afraid to stand out from other actresses. I'm a bit of a fan of her look, especially in her films as in my opinion she is beautiful and wears clothes very well.

squoosh · 06/03/2014 11:18

'"KK is not the most beautiful film star in the world. And she is not the best actress in the world. But she does get all the best roles. Which suggests that people really really want to work with her. It says good things about her personality."

Pft.

Don't care.

She may be a lovely girl but people are allowed to be a bit baffled that she is the go to girl for all the plum roles.

HesterShaw · 06/03/2014 11:21

What flowery said.

The dress simply makes the rest of her look bigger. It's and optical illusion.

Keira is very slim and beautiful. I wish people would just get over it. Not everything is "a message".

Pandsbear · 06/03/2014 11:22

I like the dress too, think it is very clever. It is high fashion, it makes you think, probably beautifully made.

And in the pics where she wore the dress to go out with her husband later she had pumps on - so it wasn't the dress that was uncomfortable - it was the heels!

kimimimi · 06/03/2014 12:07

god forbid a women to dare having a small waist in today world when we have words like curvy, healty and real to define fat people and anorexic, skeleton, "have a sandwich" for slim people, because we all know that the thinner the person the ticker de skin, so is ok to slam (but keep the double standards and be nice with fat people, they have feelings..)
and speaking about small waist vs curvy: Audrey Hepburn
and
Marilyn Monroe

burnishedsilver · 06/03/2014 12:14

Regardless of waist size, its a horrible, unflattering outfit. It wouldnt look good on anyone but it would look worse with a muffin top bulging out the middle.

squoosh · 06/03/2014 12:17

I dread seeing this filter down to River Island.

Katnisscupcake · 06/03/2014 12:22

I like KK and like someone else said, the dress is an optical illusion. Plus you only have to see her in her earlier films 'The Hole' (don't know if you've seen it but it's freaky and gave me chills) and 'Bend it like Beckham' and she's always been very very skinny. It's just her body shape.

Leave the poor girl alone. Wink

MarshaBrady · 06/03/2014 12:26

I don't have an issue with her figure but the dress is odd due to the insect-like quality.

But sometimes you get used to a new shape in fashion. The copies will be.. interesting.

Vintagebeads · 06/03/2014 12:44

I loved the dress and thought she looked fab.
I know from other pics of her that her waist is not that small compared to the rest of her its a combination of a slim woman and a clever cut dress with loads of lycra/elastic .
Love Keira too and her red carpet dress but i seem to be in the minority there Smile

Floisme · 06/03/2014 13:16

It's not real. She'll have been photo shopped. We may as well compare ourselves to this: mirrormirrorblog.com/images/various/WindowsLiveWriter/lady_penelope_06_thumb.jpg
