Kiera Knightley's minuscule waist

Does anyone think that KK looks good in this outfit?www.telegraph.co.uk/news/features/10678020/Keira-Knightleys-waist-sensation-lets-not-be-waspish.html
I realise a slight optical illusion is at play with the silhouette but it just makes me feel squirmy and think of her organs and bones. I also don't like the idea that impressionable girls might think that having a nothing waist is desirable.

It's a clever dress that I think we will see a lot of because of what it does to the waist.

KK is just hideous though. The dress is much better looking and smarter than she is.

alexheartbeauty · 05/03/2014 20:57

I respectively disagree. To me it looks like that outfit is specifically designed not just to accentuate a small waist but to actually make it look smaller than it really is.
However, I agree she's the size she is and I don't think for a second that film stars, models etc. should have to hide their slimness. However, I think it would be pro-women for them to avoid clothes that make them look absurdly skinny.

I used to have a waist like that [sigh]

hollyisalovelyname · 05/03/2014 21:02

I just don't 'get' all the nastiness about Keira Knightley.
I think she is truly beautiful and I've enjoyed films she's been in.

usualsuspect33 · 05/03/2014 21:04

I don't get the nastiness either.

Shakey1500 · 05/03/2014 21:05

I like it.

TheJumped · 05/03/2014 21:09

I think it's fab! Because it's new, and interesting, and sort of works. It's clearly high fashion and as such isn't something I'd choose to wear as is, but I'll be interested to see how it filters down to the high st. Anything that makes my waist look smaller can only be a good thing. And I also don't get the Keira hate - yes she's very slim, but so are plenty of people who don't receive the vitriol she does.

ithaka · 05/03/2014 21:21

I don't see how it is even remotely 'pro women' for slim women to be expected to dress in ways that don't make them look thin - what an absurd statement.

The dress is witty and odd. KK is slim and has always had a long thin torso, so it really works on her to give an exaggerated almost unreal look. This is not aimed at being sexy and easy on the eye - this is high fashion. I like the fact she took risks and didn't just go pretty/sexy/safe/the same as every other actress. And it got us talking, so it has done its job.

alexheartbeauty · 05/03/2014 21:25

I have no feelings towards KK one way or another. I just don't like that outfit and particularly how it looks on someone with such a slim frame. Regardless of any message that it sends (and I do think it sends out a negative one) I'm just not a fan of the 'so skinny I might break' look.

It does look weird. But there's a lot of optical illusion at play. Rihanna for a similar outfit, too.

usualsuspect33 · 05/03/2014 21:27

Do you think she should wear a big billowing smock?

usualsuspect33 · 05/03/2014 21:29

I was very slim back in the day.Should I have worn clothes to hide my slimness?

SantanaLopez · 05/03/2014 21:30

I like it!

alexheartbeauty · 05/03/2014 21:31

ithaka - I think there's a difference between slim/thin and absurdly thin as if you're wearing a corset. I also think there's a competitiveness amongst women when it comes to thinness with the thinnest woman in a room being the winner and I don't think this should be celebrated or encouraged.

OP posts:
NewChoos · 05/03/2014 21:32

I think it looks awful.

Re KK she can't act, I have no idea why she is in so many films. I can't watch anything she is in.

ithaka · 05/03/2014 21:34

OP, you may not be a fan of how slim women look, but it is unreasonable to expect them to cover themselves so they don't offend you with their thinness.

Slim women are just as attractive, womanly and entitled to exist on this planet as larger women. Their bodies are not abominations to be hidden away. Hell, they may even want to show them off in quirky dresses, because they have the temerity to feel good about themselves, how very dare they.

alexheartbeauty · 05/03/2014 21:36

usualsuspect33 Of course I don't think she should wear a smock or that you or anybody else should hide their slimness and that's not my point at all.

OP posts:
ClaudetteWyms · 05/03/2014 21:38

I like it too, it's a bit different at least. She's always been slim, what in earth is wrong with that? If I had a waist like that I'd want to show it off!

Also this is couture - full of hidden corsetry etc.

Kind of sick of the pulling apart of women for their looks now - can't win whatever size we are can we?!

trufflehunterthebadger · 05/03/2014 21:40

KK has always been very slim - look at her in Bend it Like Beckham. I doubt she is any more anorexic than one of my best friends who has been the same, very slim 5'11'' since I met her at 10 years old (well, obvs not 5'11" then but yswim) and is still exactly the same size nearly 30 years later. She eats like a horse. She's just very thin.

I find it really offensive that it is OK to slag off women who are naturally very thin. Much worse than bitching about people who are fat - because very thin people find it almost impossible to put on weight so can do little to change it

usualsuspect33 · 05/03/2014 21:40

She is wearing a dress, it's a bit ridiculous the dress I admit.

But she isn't wearing a corset to pull her waist in, that's what shape she is.

alexheartbeauty · 05/03/2014 21:42

I am a fan of slimness and would like to be slimmer myself but, as I keep saying, there's a difference between looking slim and looking ultra and absurdly thin as if you're wearing a corset.

OP posts:
usualsuspect33 · 05/03/2014 21:42

It's awful having comments like 'you are not a real woman' when you are naturally thin.

alexheartbeauty · 05/03/2014 21:42

But it does give the effect of wearing a corset, no?

OP posts:
usualsuspect33 · 05/03/2014 21:44

I don't think so. It just looks like she has a tiny waist, which she has.

ClaudetteWyms · 05/03/2014 21:50

It is described as "couture tubing" in the article. I have no idea what this is.
