Workwear orientated fashion blogs?

snowgirl1 · 05/03/2014 10:26

I lot of the fashion blogs I've looked at tend to be more 'school gate' fashion - great for inspiration for weekend wear, but I work full-time and would really like some inspiration for workwear. I follow twentymumthings blog as that's got some workwear, but are there any others that you could recommend?

Grin Grin bunnymother - the poses in that blog are well funny - she's definitely on the sauce.

I suppose it makes a refreshing change from the pigeon-toed self-consciousness you usually get.

bunny how did you find that?
Saying that, some of the outfits are lovely.

There are a couple of ladies on the Allwornout blog (Ann?) that do nice workwear...but they seem to post less frequently.

Quickly scanned Classycubicle- I wouldn't wear a pinstriped suit these days. I work in prof services so semi smart attire is the order of the day. I tend to wear dresses and separates by Whistles/Baukjen etc- that I can also wear at weekend. Can I recommend the Whistles Selma dress- I have two and am planning to buy a third! I am a curvy hippy size 12 and it's supremely flattering and comfortable.

I wasn't planning on linking to this, yet, but this thread is timely (I've actually already posted on it, under my normal name), so here's a link to what I have started working on: //www.theworkwearedit.com.

I am at the very beginning of this, so its a real work in progress. However, it will be an online compilation (an edit, if you will Smile) of what I consider to be the best workwear on the high street (focusing on natural fibres, value for money and flattering, appropriate pieces).

Most of the workwear content is on Pinterest (www.pinterest.com/workwearedit/), with boards for trousers, shoes etc, and also street style workwear photos (www.pinterest.com/workwearedit/workwear-style-inspiration/). I will be moving the content to the website, but thought I'd link in case it was of interest, now.

Also, I have just started to blog on the workwear edit website (theworkwearedit.com/the-blog/), too.

As you can tell from my user name, I'm Belinda from the AllWornOut blog, so, yes, Ann and, also, Mon post photos of their lovely, corporate workwear outfits. You' would think I would be used to putting myself "out there", due to the AWO blog, but I'm nervously pressing "post message" this time. I'd better rush off, now, and join the MN bloggers network.

Also worth looking on corporette.com - she is a former Wall Street lawyer turned blogger and now mum, has a good range of ideas from discount to spendy and features articles from a host of other websites. A little US focused but largely applicable to a UK corporate environment too!

Yes, I saw her website (and smiled - I'm a former City lawyer. Now blogging. With children. I am a cliche), and I think its great - I will keep looking closely at it. Thanks for the suggestion, as I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks something like that could work in the UK.

Ooh, a UK work wear blog. I've favourited. And spotted a pair of nude suede pointed shoes I fancy. Which led me to the Dune website, where I noticed they do brogues in a size 3. Who was after brogues in size 3??

OOOh Belinda from allwornout....you said (on blog) that you were working on a new project. Smile Good luck....the pinterest boards look good.

I like the style you're showing...clean, fuss free, not high fashion but knowing the direction.
I couldnt work in 100mm heels, with a fussy top and tight bottoms. Not physically comfortable, nor practical, nor me.

Thanks for the nice comments, that's really kind. Mumsnet is a really good place for feedback, and sharing views. I do have a clear idea of what I like and think works well for workwear, but ALL feedback is helpful.

Which brings me to LordPalmerston. Couldn't you look at Pinterest and other photos and imagine/recreate them with tights? I often look at Pinterest photos, and blogs etc and just recreate a version of what I see with what I have and/or like.

Belinda those boards are great and I like your blog too. Well done! I've already pinned an outfit!

I like the street stuff best rather than shots that look like they came from a catalogue.

Perhaps some pins re-creating the more high end looks might be useful? For example, Cos have a dress at the moment somewhat similar to the Kenzo one (although clearly nothing actually as nice) www.cosstores.com/gb/Shop/Women/Dresses/Dress_with_silk_details/46881-12318268.1#c-24479

It's miles longer on me btw, I'm 5'3".

I suppose I'm looking for inspiration on how to look chic and stylish without slavishly following "fashion" or spending hundreds never mind thousands... I want to stand out as well dressed and enjoy choosing what to put on in the morning!

i agree with belinda though ( hooray a normal post!) that those gap trews are AMAZING

I have the straight ( careful they shrink length wise) and the slim cropped ( size way down ) and the ultra skinny ( like the crops but full length and i am TWO sizes smaller in them than rl. are good for casual as well as work

I wear with low cut ankle boots ( the marks ones that I linked to ages ago on ebay) and sometimes rolled under one hem to show ankle and wear ( GASP) trainer socks that dont show. a sloppy jo sweater and a shirt.

or I have a knitted biker I wear with them and a striped t shirt for burglar chic.

gasp- and the gap straight pencil skirt - again size down and spray your tights with hair spray to stop stretch

shirt wise do Boden cambridge from two seasons ago OR UNiqlo plain white

wilting - thank you so much! How funny - I have plans to "recreate" some of the street style photos, preparing an outfit board using pieces currently available on the high street. Your comment re wanting to enjoy fashion while still going to work resonates - that's how it's been with me. It was also the case for many of my female colleagues. Corporate environments can limit your ability to embrace fashion [understatement], but it's not impossible!

I've just spent a while at Jigsaw trying on their workwear and am having lunch before heading to Cos. Will be quite interested to see how their things fit me. I'll try the dress you linked.

LordPalmerston - I wasn't expecting your comments! Grin. But I'm glad - you seem a sensible soul, so thank you. It will be hard to create a blog and website that suits everyone and their varying workwear dress codes, but I'll try to cover the good value, natural fibres on the high street. At least most people can wear the Gap trousers and skirts, so they were good to find. I'll add your comments as from "A Reader" to the blog post, as they were helpful.

Thanks again, feedback is very helpful as I'm at the start of something new.

Belinda I've followed AWO for a while now and love all the contributors' posts. Just browsed your workwearedit blog, and looks great. Loved the Gap trying on sessions! Best of luck with your new venture!

Thanks so much, Carrie, that's really nice of you. I just took seemingly endless photos at Cos (surprisingly good if you size down and stick to basic shapes ie not lampshade skirts etc) and Jigsaw - seems the trying on is popular, so will keep doing that, and other posts, too.

Absolutely Belinda - seeing things on a real person rather than the bleached out over-styled models helps give a much better impression. I'm desperate to use my 25% Grazia code for Whistles, but can't get to the stores right now. Looking online and everything is styled so far off the mark from how I can wear things so I end up closing the site and not spending. COS is the same (actually it's worse, as there are no COS shops down Bristol-way).
