What do we think of this year's dresses? I love Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong'o and Kelly Osbourne.

I quite like Cate Blanchett and Amy Adams.

I don't like Angelina Jolie's I think it's boring and a bit frumpy. Also Penelope Cruz usually looks great but I found her dress this year unflattering.

Feel free somebody to add a non daily mail link.

And here are the results coming in From MadIsTheNewNormal:

Lupita - sorry, massive fail. That ultra-deep neckline is all wrong and makes her chest look scrawny (positively anorexic in fact) and it makes her proportions look all skewed. Hate the colour on her as well. NIL POINTS

Charlize - Lovely skirt but I'm not wild about the strap/bodice configuration going on. That slash all the way to the stomach is really hard pull off. She does it better than Lupita though. I also hate being able to see the bits of not-quite-invisible plastic, or the flesh coloured sheer fabric that holds something up. Either make it completely invisible or don't have it.

Cate - ditto. I'm a bit over the flesh/nude thing now, it flatters so few people and I don't like that you can see the nude sheer stuff up round her neck - it's a bit frumpy from some angles.

Amy Adams - a safe choice but lovely. simple, elegant and the midnight blue really suits her.

Angelina - lovely, especially the back.

Jennifer Lawrence - it's ok. She pulls the colour off well, if Heinz Tomato soup is your thing. Not that keen on the half peplum.

Sandra B - lovely colour on her, the dress is nice but not great.

Penelope - from the front I love it. From the back it looks like a maternity dress.

Camilla Alves (with Matthew McConnaughy) - Gorgeous. I love it.

Jada - not keen.

Julia - well it depends on which photo you look at.....I think I adore it, but one of those shots makes her look like she has massive saggy tits and no bra!

Kate Hudson - very nice indeed. Very Joan Crawford/Bette Davies.

Gaga - lovely dress but not keen on the chiffon scarf thing. It makes it look dated/frumpy. And why does the Gaga always look about 52 when she actually about 14?

Anne Hathaway - lovely, simple, elegant.

Jennifer Garner - pretty.

Emma Watson - gorgeous.

Kerry Washington - mmm...beautiful colour but wearing strapless when you are PG tends to make you look like you are wrapped in a bath towel. It had loads of potential but would have been better with at least one shoulder or some straps!

Naomi Watts- gorgeous

Olivia Wilde - spectacular

Meryl - lovely. And it sounds out the message 'yeah...been here millions of times, I'm cool about it all....' Grin

Margot Robbie - beautiful from the front, but that huge bow on the back is slightly odd.

Jessica Biel - very pretty

Kristen Bell - very pretty - a bit too bridal?

Goldie - the colour looks great on her, and I like the beaded arm bits, but they give the impression that the bodice is being dragged downwards a bit.

Sally Hawkins - gorgeous. difficult colour to pull off and all that chinky beading risks adding too much bulk, but it looks great on her.

Elsa Pataky (PG in the teal beaded thing) bloody awful. Such a shame as it's a beautiful colour, beautiful beading, beautiful neckline and then RUINED with that horrendous band under her stomach. I have no problem with accentuating your bump but that's all wrong.

Portia Di Rossi - stunning, especially from the back.

Chrissie Teigan (with John Legend) lovely.

Laura Dern - drab colour, makes her look washed out. If are going to wear nude it needs some sparkle or some lace or great sleeves, or something. This looks a bit meh.

Julie Delpy - Nude, but gorgeous. That's the way to do it.

Christina Cavellari (PG in white) lovely

Callista - lovely

Idina Menzel - lovely, classic

Viola Davis in the emerald/jade - mmm, not really keen but not sure why.

June Squibb - very lovely for an older lady.

Sarah Paulson - ok

Kristen Chenowith - Gorgeous. So glamorous, great structure.

Anna Kendrick - not really

Glenn Close - fantastic. Love it. Classy, classy, classy.

Veerie Baetens - HATE that bodice and the spaghetti straps. Looks like chest binding!

Ireland Baldwin - really great colour, very pretty lace.

Bette Midler - absolutely stunning and suits her so well. i want this for me. Grin

Olga Kurylenko - lovely

Lorna Luft - gorgeous dress although I would have liked to see better definition/shape in the bodice.

Liza Minnelli - bloody fabulous. Top notch.

Scheherazade Goldsmith - beautiful.

Kelly Osborne - beautiful. She often gets it really wrong but this is spot on.

Giuiliana (who??) meh....bit too bridal and makes her look thick around the middle which she obviously isn't.

Nancy O'Dell - lovely.

Maria Menounos - gorgeous

Tara Lipinski - wedding dress made out of her mum's old nets?

Rachel smith, safe choice but really stunning.

Right. Off to read the thread and compare notes now. Grin

MadIsTheNewNormal · 03/03/2014 12:45

Ooooh, hang on, just seen the link to Elton's party. The Kardashians look fantastic. OK, so Kim is a little too in-your-face with the tits, but she still looks fabulous. But Khloe!!!, Poor old Khloe can't often compete but this deep claret velvet number and that hair is absolutely stunning.

MadIsTheNewNormal · 03/03/2014 13:03

Britney - don't like that very deep neckline. Are you sensing a theme here? Grin

Heidi Klum - lovely dress but it's doing strange things to her cleavage.

Anna Paquin - unusual. I like it.

Donatella Versace - it's hard to get past her huge lollipop head and Thunderbirds Puppet features to be honest, but I think her dress is lovely.

Kelly O - I like it.

Christina Hendricks - gorgeous, as always. I would have preferred it full length though.

Nicki Reed (red/black kimono/kaftan thing) - LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Vanessa Hudgens - nice style, awful fabric

Jaime King - love it. Nice to see something completely different and yet still elegant.

Taylor Swift - very nice but too old for her.

Jane Seymour - gorgeous

Sheryl Crowe - bit boring

Petra Nemkova - gorgeous

Karoline Kemkova - oh dear. Perhaps I am just too old to get it.

Grace Hightower (Robert De Niro's wife) beautiful. Great colour, very classy and understated.

Yolana Foster - very nice.

Ashley Green - Stunning.

Bellamy young - don't like at all.

Jane fonda - gorgeous

Patty Hearst - not a bad dress but it doesn't suit her.

Lydia Hearst - stunning

Kelly Rowland - a bit dull

Anne Vyatlitsyna - dreadful. horrid colour, unflattering lines, dreadful bodice.

Joey8 · 03/03/2014 13:08

Love Kate Hudsons dress and Kelly Osbournes - beautiful!

MorrisZapp · 03/03/2014 13:12

Come off it Mad, Sally Hawkins looked utterly ridiculous in that dress. It reminded me of those purses we all had in the seventies with plastic beads on. The colour did nowt for her, and she's far too slight to carry off the heavy beading.

I love Sally but no, no, no, no, no.

MorrisZapp · 03/03/2014 13:14

I agree that Janes Seymour and Fonda looked fab, but I would have ranked Sheryl Crowe in with them too. I love to see the over forties kicking butt!

Nancy66 · 03/03/2014 13:32

I saw Sally Hawkins being interviewed on red carpet and she seemed a bit pissed (i.e in the UK sense = drunk, not the US sense = annoyed)

Bearleigh · 03/03/2014 13:42

Sally Hawkins's dress looked too big for her

Stila · 03/03/2014 13:48

Viola Davis in the emerald/jade - mmm, not really keen but not sure why.
When she was interviewed on the red carpet , she looked 'wonky' . The seaming on the bust made her look like her breasts were on a bit of a diagonal slant .

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 03/03/2014 13:52

My favourite was Gabourey Sidibe, her dress was amazing and she looked great in it.

Matsikula · 03/03/2014 13:57

Hey, if I had to do an entire awards season standing next to Cate Blanchett like Sally hawkins has done, I'd be reaching for a sack to hide in, never mind a dress like armour (as someone said further up) and a spot of Dutch courage.

Love Julie Delpy's dress also. Not very high fashion but it looks absolutely great on her.

burnishedsilver · 03/03/2014 14:08

Would somebody please feed Minnie Driver and Calista Flockhart.

WillieWaggledagger · 03/03/2014 14:09

i loved julie delpy's dress too but i think she'd have had to stand with hands on hips like that all night to get the most out of it!

TheJumped · 03/03/2014 14:11

Lupita's dress was beautiful and she suited it perfectly IMO. I am reminded of Keira Knightley's wedding dress, she is very slim and not much boobs and looked fantastic in a similar shaped ballerina-esque dress.

I think Jennifer would look a bit of a mess in a more princessy dress, the strong structure of the Dior tomato dress is perfect for her - cheery bright colour and a bit of structure to make it seem like she might not fall over for a change!

I really liked Anne Hathaway's look although it doesn't seem popular, I thought it was fab - the metal triangles seemed to be used on several dresses - a bit like those crazy Issey Miyake bags.

BriarRainbowshimmer · 03/03/2014 14:22

Lupita Nyong’o looked stunning (even if the dress had weird cleavage) and her acceptance speech was touching.
I kind of liked Ellen's vampire outfit.

curiousgeorgie · 03/03/2014 14:25

Emma Watson looked like a child had done get makeup... And her hair was a mess.

Olivia Wilde looked the best...

Apatite1 · 03/03/2014 14:28

Er, I thought Lupita looked ok, but she's looked better at other awards.

I thought Kate Hudson, Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts, Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron looked stunning.

ListenToTheLady · 03/03/2014 14:28

I know burnishedsilver, if I had a jawbone like Minnie Driver's I would eat a few more pies to pad it out. She can (and used to) look great but being incredibly skinny is not a good look for her.

Actually although there are some scarily skinny slebs in the pics, one thing that's noticeable is a variety of body shapes and weights all looking good.In general there seems to be less of a preponderance of having to be tiny.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/03/2014 14:31

Lupita looked stunning, Cate was elegant but she's worn that kind of dress quite a bit now, Sandra's dress was tasteful and a gorgeous colour but a little too fussy. Emma Watson looked great but I can't put my finger on why I didn't like Anne's metallic top. Kerry Washington looked fabulous. Sally's dress was too much for her, Jennifer Garner whoses lampshades did you borrow, Julia's dress "I dyed some old net curtains balck and chopped them about", Jada that fabric looked cheap and that knot so uncomfortable.

YouGrateMyCheese · 03/03/2014 14:32

I wish Julia would go back to her auburn hair. She just does not have the coloring to pull of blonde.

Sally Field looked amazing - she could give a masterclass on how to age gracefully.

squoosh · 03/03/2014 15:02

I have really admired Lupita's red carpet style in the last few months but hated her Oscar's dress. The plunging V made her chest look so boney.

madammecholet · 03/03/2014 15:41

No 1 fav: Kate Hudson love love love

Least Fav: Liza Minnelli hate hate hate

ListenToTheLady · 03/03/2014 15:53

Minelli looks bonkers, but she's Liza Minelli! Wouldn't expect anything else.

Hudson - yawnsome.

Lighthousekeeping · 03/03/2014 16:01

Hudson is so boring and untalanted. Can't bear her. Are we watching Fashion Police on E! Tomorrow night?

fartmeistergeneral · 03/03/2014 16:13

Anyone got a link to Minnie Driver's dress?
