What do we think of this year's dresses? I love Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong'o and Kelly Osbourne.

I quite like Cate Blanchett and Amy Adams.

I don't like Angelina Jolie's I think it's boring and a bit frumpy. Also Penelope Cruz usually looks great but I found her dress this year unflattering.

Feel free somebody to add a non daily mail link.

I thought Charlize Theron, Amy Adams, Naomi Watts and Cate Blanchett looked the best.

Nikki Reed looks fab at the after party, the rest all look a bit naff.

Chris Hemsworth doesn't scrub up to badly :D

ListenToTheLady · 03/03/2014 10:06

Cumberbatch I've just realised he's a shoo-in to play Kenneth Williams!

ListenToTheLady · 03/03/2014 10:10

I want to be at the same party as this lot!

ListenToTheLady · 03/03/2014 10:13

Oh Pharrell FFS, never thought I'd say this but I think I may have seen enough of your legs.

Meglet · 03/03/2014 10:18

Love Sandra Bullocks midnight blue McQueen.

And Olivia Wilde in maternity Valentino.

Burmahere · 03/03/2014 10:20

I think they all look as though they went on a trolley dash through Debenhams Sunday afternoon Grin!

Mind you I hate all that flouncy, long, going to the ball look so I'm possibly biased.

If I had to choose it would be Cate B but in a different colour - that flesh look is vile on anyone.

RonaldMcDonald · 03/03/2014 10:28

shurely all these fairly pale shittola colours has something to do with stylists thinking 'oh she's a soft summer'

Jolie was a fright
Roberts Debenhams Sale rack at best
Delphi looked like the killer from Silence of the Lambs in her butterfly skin suit

SomethingkindaOod · 03/03/2014 10:32

Really not sure about Lupita's dress, it's a beautiful colour and the skirt is lovely but the top is way too low and unflattering.
Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway looked stunning.
Ryan Seacrest looked like a waiter!

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 03/03/2014 10:50

Are some of those DM photos meant to look so unflattering? Confused

skrumle · 03/03/2014 10:52

kate hudson and sandra bullock looked fabulous, i think best i've seen either of them in a long time. didn't love kerry washington's dress but she really did look how pregnant women are supposed to - glowing and happy!

angelina jolie and kim kardashian were both looking very dumpy though - not good dress choices. and i didn't like lupita's dress - too wide and low at the bust, disappointing considering how stunning most of her outfits have been. and pharell's shorts!!! actually noticed that quite a lot of the guys looked a bit crumpled - clearly too long in the limos...

Roussette · 03/03/2014 10:54

Whitershadeofpale oh my goodness me! If that's not a salutory lesson not to overdo the facelifts/botox, I don't know what is!

My absolute fashion faux pas was Julia Roberts... what a dreadful outfit and what posessed her to go scrubby dyed blonde with roots growing out?
I do know that everyone has different tastes and some might love this dress, I suppose I just imagine it on me and that's not a very nice thought!

Loved Kate hudson's dress and hair.
Lupita looked amazing as she has all awards season.
Agree that Amy Adams needed a necklace.
Liked camilla alves dress too, thought the colour was fab on her.
And Jennifer Lawrence looked great too, that colour was great on her.

Jennifer garner/angelina jolie/care blanchett all looked a bit meh IMO

Off to check out the after party dresses as they obviously sound more interesting

bouquetofpencils · 03/03/2014 11:01

I must be getting old because my favourite is Bette Midler's dress! I also love Julia Roberts - it looks quite comfy. The navy of Amy Adams and Sandra Bullock is boring to me.
I am not that bothered by Cate Blanchetts. Lots if whites, pastels and nudes which look like they have gone a bit grey in the wash. No put and out disasters although Charlize's Theron's straps are a bit weird.
Lupita looks very refreshing.

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 03/03/2014 11:04

Elton John's party

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 03/03/2014 11:06

That's got some Vanity Fair pics too.

ListenToTheLady · 03/03/2014 11:08

Also loved Bette Midler's look - she looks confident, happy and glam yet comfortable. Looking great for nearly 70, without looking freakish - maybe with a bit of assistance I would assume, but at least she hasn't gone OTT.

Roussette · 03/03/2014 11:18

Bette Midler is ALL WOMAN and looked fantastic I thought

WipsGlitter · 03/03/2014 11:43

I didn't like Lupita's. Her chest is far too bony and scrawny and the dress highlighted that. It was a great colour on her though.

OpalQuartz · 03/03/2014 11:44

Oh God. I thought this was going to be a thread about Oscar Pistorius's dress sense at the trial. Blush

Nancy66 · 03/03/2014 11:45

I agree that I felt Lupita was just too flat-chested to carry off that gown. It would have looked awful on a large busted woman but, equally, it needed a little boobage.

Loved Amy Adams, Kate Hudson and Cate Blanchett. Jennifer Lawrence's dress looked a bit 'cheap' to me even though it must have cost thousands.

Farewelltoarms · 03/03/2014 11:47

I feel treacherous saying that Lupita's dress was too low as she's generally so fabulous. I loved her hair with that band in. How wonderful it is to see short natural hair (have just read Americanah so this obsesses me. Having straightened hair seems to be a straitjacket imprisoning black women into an awful uncomfortable life. Bit like wearing high heels all the time).

Anyway the colour of her dress was just wonderful ditto accessories. I just think she looks amazing in something high cut like she's worn to other events. Generally I don't like that ribcagey plungey thing that seems popular. Don't like it's opposite of pushy up tits either. Heidi Klum really needs to put her puppies away.

Farewelltoarms · 03/03/2014 11:48

its opposite that should say...

ListenToTheLady · 03/03/2014 11:49

Hmm I see what you mean about Lupita but somehow it is the contrast between incredibly airy, floaty, girly dress and super-buff muscles and edgy androgynous hair, that works so well.

MorrisZapp · 03/03/2014 12:14

Steve Coogan, did they not have that jacket in your size mate?

Benedict, oh he is just lovely. Can do no wrong.

Lupitas dress was a dream, so heavenly, but the top was all wrong and highlighted what must be the least attractive part of her body.

Emma Watson looked utterly stunning to me.

Mama McConaghey, oh dear. The pain was there in her son's face.

Anne Hathaway, I can't work her out. One minute she's a gamine elflet, the next she looks like Maureen Lipmans's stunt double.

Nancy66 · 03/03/2014 12:23

Coogan's jacket looked terrible didn't it?

I was watching some of the red carpet coverage on E and the fashion experts were saying something about Cumberbatch's trousers and how you don't need a 'gap' and I didn't have a clue what they were on about...
