Cone of shameGrin Grin Grin

At Geneva airport drinking water that cost £4 a bottleShock

I should have been doing 'improving' activities, such as the Imagine festival on the South Bank or an exhibition at the RA, but that would have involved potentially recalcitrant child on tube, etc, and that seemed even worse than soft play, somehow.

cremolafoam · 20/02/2014 20:12

BTM once st geneva airport on the Swiss side my sis Bil and I had sausages and mash which I shoved on my credit card as we'd no Swiss francs. Three weeks later on my statement I noticed it had cost £83ShockShock

I am at A&E . Oh yeh. Have a swollen and painful eye and the gp forced me to come to casualty. I look like >>>Wink.
And just got an email about job interview for Monday.

I only found soft play do-able only if we arrived very early indeed. The downside of this was that no other children arrived for at least an hour and a half, and my coffee and croissant (this was in Belgium) was constantly interrupted by demands for attention or chocolate milk or my Speculoos. I got into the habit of Doing Things Early in Belgium (the Flems never did anything before lunch time) and once, quite thrillingly, we had the whole of the pool at Kessel-lo to ourselves for about four hours before the hordes arrived. Which worked very well, because by this time, the children were tired and fed up with swimming, so we had a nice early lunch, an energetic afternoon in the adventure playground ("see how quickly you can run along there and climb up the tree"), then two tired children in the car for the drive home.

NUFC69 · 20/02/2014 20:32

Sorry to hear that, Crem. I hope they can sort it out for you; it sounds painful and unpleasant. I also hope that you don't have to wait too long to be seen.

MrsS, friends of ours had two stints in Brussels and really enjoyed themselves there (we also enjoyed visiting), but life as an ex-pat could be interesting at times. It always seemed a very civilised place to me.

Stropperella · 20/02/2014 21:36

Herbs, no criticism intended. :)
I always have at least one recalcitrant child, as virtually nothing keeps them both happy at the same time, although messing around on the beach and having hot chocolate worked today. You should have heard ds when he heard he had to go to an art gallery, though. ("I HATE art.")

Crem, good luck for your interview and hope your eye calms down over the w/e.

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/02/2014 21:43

We adored Brussels and did not want to leave, NUFC. It was a very easy place to live and we had a lovely life there.

Crem - hope they sort your eye out, and good luck for the interview.

herbaceous · 20/02/2014 22:09

None taken, stropps! I'm just mildly miffed with myself that I've gone for the 'easier' option of soft play, cinema, etc, rather than doing something I would have actually enjoyed.

We went to see Lego Movie yesterday, mat DS's request, but he spent the whole film on my lap, saying it was 'scary'. We had to leave early.

CointreauVersial · 20/02/2014 22:16

I never minded soft play, as long as the place had a decent cafe and I was armed with a stack of reading matter. There's a massive one just outside Croydon which is so big I wouldn't set eyes on the DCs for hours. And the cafe sold bruschetta and wine by the glass. Wine Wine

Sorry to hear about the eye, Crem. Don't scratch it, or the Cone of Shame will be coming your way too. Grin

I can't believe the week is almost over. DM was here today, looking after the DDs while DS was getting properly filthy playing football (it was a real sit-on-a-binbag job when I picked him up; he even had mud in his ears). Tomorrow DD1 is off to Camden Market with friends, and on to a sleepover, DS is meeting friends locally, and DD2 is off to holiday club. It's Pyjama Day, so she's going in her penguin onesie.

Finally home. It's several ulcers on the cornea - how how how!?
Antibiotic drops blah blah....
Feel like there's a knitting needle through my head. No cone of shame although I'd love to go to a job interview in one of those .Grin it might distract from my very scant knowledge of the data protection act 1998.Blush

Crem, that sounds awful; hope the tablets work quickly. As you say, where on earth have you got that from?

Welcome back, BTM. Are you aching from using muscles you don't normally use?

At 7.00 I am going on the exercise bike, she says virtuously. Trouble is I am hungry. DH cooked last night and decided to add chilli to chicken tagine as suggested in "alternatives" in recipe - he went a bit mad and the finished dish was too hot for me to eat. Sad

Blackduck · 21/02/2014 07:04

Cremo - oh no, you really have been in the wars in the last 6 months!!

BTM welcome home!

Ds is down wil inlaws which will involve swimming and 'build a bear workshop' - I refuse to take him so it's left to the grandparents.

Soft play = hell. I loathed them but CVs sounds great...

Ah Rudy the standard Ikea run - bits and bobs = how much? :)

herbaceous · 21/02/2014 07:56

That sounds hideous crem. Reminds of how my uber-competitive BiL, rather than let his five-year-old daughter win a staring competition, let her poke him in the eye rather than blink. He scratched his cornea. Serves him right.

Ooh, I've written about those, Crem. Poor you. And congrats.

I never took my two to soft play purely because it was all so terrifying.

I have a child free house. Which gives me no excuse but to work. I do get a 'work' lunch out with a friendWink

Blackduck · 21/02/2014 09:05

Oh yes Cremo - congrats!!!

bigTillyMint · 21/02/2014 09:06

I spent hours at the soft play - very useful on wet days with my two!

Home at 12.30 last night - DC were VERY tired - I forsee a pyjama day here! Both DD and I suffering with our knees (and mine despite wearing my sports supports, and the back of my knees are bad tooSad) and DD landed on her coccyx at the end of snowboarding yesterday...

motherinferior · 21/02/2014 09:10

I have just realised DD1 does NOT have an inset day on Monday (it's been changed. When? When???) I have to confess this gives me considerable relief.

Oh dear, BTM. Take it easy!

CointreauVersial · 21/02/2014 12:58

Crem - not a contact lens wearer, are you? They are a common cause of corneal ulcers. I reckon it's your buggered immune system, with all that's been going on recently. Anyway, best of luck for the interview.

Welcome home, BTM. The rubbish state of my knees is that main reason that I think I'd struggle with skiing now. Much as I'd love to go. DH is the same.

Just spoke to DS about 20 minutes ago; apparently he's "just having breakfast". Monday will be a shock to the system, methinks. At what point do I remind him that the homework he was "definitely going to do straight away" remains untouched?

NUFC69 · 21/02/2014 13:18

Crem, just thought - DC haven't had chicken pox recently, have they? The son of a friend (years ago) suddenly developed ulcers on his eyes after CP. Something to do with a herpes virus, I think. It took ages for hospital to diagnose. Your immune system was mentioned and this popped into my head. Of course I am probably way off mark but just thought I'd mention it.
