Well done mini-Stropps and mini-Herbs

DD is dreading hers after half-term. As she has always had glowing reports like the two above, this could be something of a sea-change.

Oh Cremo, it sounds dreadful. Like the night in the 1970's in the Power Cuts when the boiler behind the coal fire burst and my granddad turned up (with dementia)....

BD, did he set off in enough time(Shock) or did he miss the meeting?

NUFC69 · 12/02/2014 23:32

Well I am back from the sodden south (even if Staffordshire is north to you). Had an enjoyable few days with much eating and drinking - saw family and friends. And lots of snow yesterday which disappeared as soon as the temperature rose. I am now lying in bed and the rain and wind are rattling the windows.

Well done, Mr CV on his new job and to those of you whose children had good reports.

DGD1 spent several hours in A&E earlier this week with suspected meningitis, but fortunately is ok. DS dropped this into our conversation as a kind of aside when we'd been talking for about ten minutes! Men...

CointreauVersial · 13/02/2014 01:28

Not my DH with a new job - he's just clocked up 21 years. They will be carrying him out in a box. Twas Crem's DH.

I am up late because I got embroiled in a technical issue with my laptop. I just couldn't let it rest, and ended up doing a system restore. But I fixed it!

Blackduck · 13/02/2014 06:14

He got there for the meeting - but was somewhat knackered when he got home. We have decided that as Friday is likely to be as bad that I will either take leave or wfh so he can set off mega early.... (Has assessments on Friday so has to go in).

Last night my trains were effected so it's getting more and more worrying - have images of dp and I stuck on one side of the river(s) and ds on the other!

NUFC69 · 13/02/2014 06:44

Oh dear, BD. The wind seems to have abated somewhat here; I think we're having a respite. Is it the Thames which affects you? The pictures are quite awful - I just wonder how long its going to take for the sheer volume of water to drain away, let alone when the poor people are going to get back in their homes. When our village was flooded it was almost a year before most got back.

NUFC69 · 13/02/2014 06:50

Sorry, CV. I am (was) on phone and it takes ages to find something. I am impressed with your IT skills - took me weeks to work out how to switch the wifi back on when for some reason it turned itself off on my laptop! Shock

Congratulations to Mr Crem then.

beachyhead · 13/02/2014 07:47

Stropps, congratulations on dd's parents evening and good luck for today.

My ds is drip feeding his half term grades day by day. I think I see the full picture tonight (or I could log onto some hugely complicated website to get them, which is never going to happen!)

One shower has stopped working due to the high water table. Some dodgy drainage arrangement, apparently!

motherinferior · 13/02/2014 07:57

It had to happen...got caught in the rain while conducting this morning's LadyjogGrin

DD1 in filthy mood when I got back. Is it my fault she didn't leave enough time to get to her early German class? That would be a no. She is a perfectly competent child with an alarm who usually does all this herself....

bigTillyMint · 13/02/2014 07:59

Stropps, thinking of you this morningSmile

MI, welcome to the world of teens. It is your fault. It is always your fault.

Blackduck · 13/02/2014 08:38

Good luck Stropps - thinking of you!

NU - I am in the midlands, on a hill, but near two rivers which have led to the routes out being closed one by one so everyone is having to use the same single road - hence the horrendous drive.

Sunny here this morning :)

motherinferior · 13/02/2014 08:53

Go Stropps! Remember, this is no time to be sane and buttoned-up Grin

Stropperella · 13/02/2014 09:08
Grin

Right, I'm feeling nicely jittery this morning, so I'm probably in the most useful frame of mind for being assessed.

beachy, sorry to hear about your non-functional shower. I am beginning to worry about finding the groundwater bubbling over in my kitchen one morning soon. (Happened on a regular basis to my next door neighbour in the village where I used to live) 'Twas ds who was much lauded at the parents' eve. Dd's event a couple of weeks ago was just variations on the CDBIT theme, except for in Maths, where she is now getting A* without making much effort, although 6 months ago she was claiming she was a Maths dunce and would fail entirely. Hmm

OK, I'm off

NUFC69 · 13/02/2014 09:29

Stropps, we're all rooting for you. Good luck and try to stay calm, although the wild hair look is always attractive, I think.

BD, I come from the Midlands too, I did leave .... mumble ... 40 years ago, and do have family in the Royal town still.

Not wishing to gloat, but lovely bright day here.

herbaceous · 13/02/2014 09:35

Lovely day here too! Just conducted ladyjog. It's the fifth time I've done week two, mainly because I can't seem to work out how to download week three. I'm being incredibly dense.

I bought some new running clothes in, of course, Sainsbury's. I thought they were vaguely thermal, but seem to specialise in wicking any heat from the skin and inducing mild hypothermia. Maybe they're 'base layers'.

herbaceous · 13/02/2014 09:36

And Stropps! Courage, mon brave. And don't be calm. This is no time to, as the slogan tediously has it, keep calm and carry on. Panic and wig out.

motherinferior · 13/02/2014 09:39

Yep. Wibble. Hell, even dribble.

I think I probably wibbled and dribbled. Grin Feel a bit rung-out now. However, I shall go for a brisk walk with the dog and get self together. The chap said he wants to go away and consult, but is fairly sure that they can "offer me something". He also wants a psychiatrist to look at the issue of the meds. Which is something I have asked the GP about before, but got no answer on, really. The assessor chap also has the printouts of some of my misery-filled posts from the last thread . So, we shall see...

motherinferior · 13/02/2014 12:22

Sounds terrific, Stropps - really good. Well done.

QueenQueenie · 13/02/2014 12:27

That's very brave Stropps. Give yourself a big pat on the back and have a hug. I was thinking too that it might be really helpful for your dd to see you getting help for yourself, that getting help for problems is an ok thing to do AND that you're important enough to need support and understanding too.

lalsy · 13/02/2014 12:55

Stropps, that is really good, it must have been hard so no wonder you are wrung out, take it easy on yourself now. I agree with QQ.

herbaceous · 13/02/2014 13:16

Hurrah for Stropps! This is the first day of the rest of your life, and other trite platitudes.

You can now return your hair to 'normal' setting, if the wind will allow.

NUFC69 · 13/02/2014 13:23

Stropps, that sounds positive - well done for taking a big step (well, stride, really). QQ is talking a lot of sense.

wilbur · 13/02/2014 13:35

Just checking in, haven't caught up at all, but wanted to say well done stropps for making the call. Hoping this is the first step towards something significantly helpful.
