And a new door opens...Grin

Stropps, don't feel guilty - he needs to step up!

I think I clench my teeth in my sleep at times too!

motherinferior · 23/01/2014 13:26

I don't think it's bad you don't feel like apologising, sweetie - quite the contrary. You are In The Right.

Herbs...any chance whatsoever of some kind of compensation from the cowboys???

OP posts:
herbaceous · 23/01/2014 13:28

I think that's what supposed to happen, in an ideal world, via an Ombudsman, but I'm not holding my breath.

hattymattie · 23/01/2014 14:29

ShockHerbs 4.5k - that's a nightmare.

ShockStropps - but sounds like he had it coming. I did think my DH was unique in not wanting to deal with issues until they were totally unavoidable but given this thread, I'm beginning to think it's a man thing.

bigTillyMint · 23/01/2014 14:48

4.5KShock That's a lot of money.

We are waiting to hear back about our compo claim for the mess the builders behind us made of our garden, but since there has been no sign of them for weeks, I am not that hopeful.

herbaceous · 23/01/2014 14:53

I gather the only way we could get the money back from Cowboy Builders R Us is via an ombudsman. Sounds a pain in the arse, but for £4.5k might be worth it.

I strongly suspect they weren't VAT registered, yet charged us VAT, so I could threaten to shop them to the taxman unless they reimburse us!

bigTillyMint · 23/01/2014 14:55

Herbs, I think it's worth it!

Blackduck · 23/01/2014 15:04

For that amount of money def worth it!

motherinferior · 23/01/2014 15:04

BTW if anyone is after sheepskin insoles or indeed anything of that nature, Celtic Sheepskin has free p&p at the moment; excellent washable insoles, though not the cheapest out.

Stropperella · 23/01/2014 15:21

Shock Herbs, that's awful. And yes, it's definitely worth going to the ombudsman for that amount. That's outrageous!

We've just had a visit from dh's (admittedly useful) surveyor bandmate re: chimney leak: he dangled out of our velux windows at an alarming angle, made various suggestions for quick 'n' cheap fixes for the roofer to try out and advised us to get those done and wait a year to see if they've worked rather than get the roofer to carry out a complete chimney rebuild. Also gave advice on what it ought to cost. Which was interesting. And told us that we didn't need a new roof. Which was not what the roofer said. Also interesting. That bandmate can come round for tea again.

Stropperella · 23/01/2014 15:22

BTM, will pm you my email addy later!!

motherinferior · 23/01/2014 15:32

Always worth trying to get your money's worth out of a DP's rather pointless activities, I find. Am doing a feature on t'ai chi for my charity mag, thus capitalising on Mr Inferior....

OP posts:
Auriga · 23/01/2014 15:41

Stropps, it sounds as though an explosion was better than seething indefinitely. Not too heavy with the sack-cloth etc.

Herbs, aargh. But the ombudsman doesn't take as long as you think, so don't be put off if that's the only way.

I'm on third migrainous day, just giving up and going to bed now Sad

motherinferior · 23/01/2014 15:49

Oh Auriga, you poor love.

Stropps, the bins example is brilliant: precisely the sort of thing that would drive any normal person to the EDGE.

DP insists on being vague about the girls' friends. Always has been. This is sort of OK, but frequently awkward too.

Stropps, the only way I can get anything done around here is to shout. DD2 was so traumatised by my shouting at her when she was 5 that she hasn't done anything to provoke me to that extent since (yet). It may have had something to do with me kicking the wardrobe and the front of the drawer falling off when I was yelling.

Auriga, that sounds horrendous. Go to bed.

NUFC69 · 23/01/2014 17:13

May I delurk to ask about the Woolover moss stitch jumper - is it warm? I just feel that I could do with something cosier. I like the sage green colour; haven't anything like that.
IF I can give some advice to Stropperella, the answer is to look at DH with a pained, puzzled look on your face and definitely don't apologise - not your fault at all. That's how I cope with my DH and usually he falls over himself to get back in my good books. Wink Wink

motherinferior · 23/01/2014 17:16

Hello lurker person, do stay and introduce yourself! It is warm. Very lovely.

OP posts:
NUFC69 · 23/01/2014 17:32

How kind! I am further through the parenting thing than all of you - my DC are at the stage of producing their own DC. I lost a lot of weight last year and have rediscovered my fashion mojo. Today I actually tried on a maxi dress from the 70s and I could almost do it up. What joy.
I love the way you're all so supportive of each other. May I hang around, please?

NUFC69 · 23/01/2014 17:35

PS - I thought the "what do you wear if you're over 50" thread took a strange turn, too.

motherinferior · 23/01/2014 17:46

Please do!

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 23/01/2014 17:48

Oh yes! A new crepey! Welcome NUFC69!

Stropperella · 23/01/2014 18:04

Woohoo, welcome NUF :) And thank you for your advice. At this stage, I am now of the opinion that dh wasn't even expecting an apology. He is now trying to do things he promised to do months ago - we shall see...

Stropperella · 23/01/2014 18:05

And Auriga - what MrsS said. Three days - that must be hellish. Sad
