Well, DS (despite looking 15) is only 12, and still can't watch Titanic all through, so he's probably not a good indicator! It is a 15 I guessGrin Yours are older - I bet they would be fine. It wasn't so much the violence, as the meaning behind it that was upsetting for me, IYSWIM.

No Rudy, I'm sure they will be fine at the cinema. 15+ is a lot different to 12Smile

hattymattie · 19/01/2014 18:57

On the subject of ~12 Years as a Slave - both Camilla Long and India Knight in the Sunday Times last week commented on the long torture scenes. I haven't seen it but not sure I'd take my under 15's and not entirely sure that it's suitable for me eitherHmm. DH decided that DS (age 11) had to watch The Matrix for his general culture, the poor child is totally bewildered.

beachyhead · 19/01/2014 19:37

I took my 12 yo to Mandela and some of that was quite gritty. I just felt it was very important that he understood the story behind the man. I don't feel as strongly about taking him to '12 years a slave' although I would like to see it. I do get quite squeamish at violence and torture though....

I have this overwhelming image of 15 middle aged ladies turning up at a 'rendezvous' in gold skirts Grin

cremolafoam · 19/01/2014 19:51

Omgee that skirt is lush! I am tempted but can't think of anywhere I'd wear it.( Copenhagen dinner out maybe?)
Addle did it reach calf length or Is it at the knee? And what did you put on top?
QQ lol at a Golden Crepey meetup.
I think I'm too much of a shortarse for it. Wink

Stropperella · 19/01/2014 20:04

The skirt is lovely and addle looked gorgeous in it. No chance of me ever purchasing it, however, as I would look like Liberace's uglier sister in it. (Am fairly convinced that I was born to dress like Andrea Dworkin - heaven knows how I ended up finding my MN home on an S&B thread.) Grin So it will be 14 ladies in golden skirts and one in dodgy dungarees. :-)

bigTillyMint · 19/01/2014 20:08

Stropps you would NOT look like Liberace's ugly sister (Grin) in it.
Addle looked fab in it partly because she has a great slim figure, although I think my lumps and bumps could be disguised with a clever top if I got it...

Sniggering at 15 ladies in gold skirtsGrin Grin

herbaceous · 19/01/2014 21:07

After one too many trips to the park spent shivering in my Michael Kors parka, that turns out to be style over substance, I am now obsessed with didriksons parkas. Shame they are eye-wateringly expensive.

motherinferior · 20/01/2014 08:42

I don't think DP would enjoy 12 Years. I'll have to go on my own. Which I don't mind, really, though we had a flaming row yesterday about Never Going Out. (He said he'd suggested going to see The Duck House and I'd said not really. I'd be prepared to go if (a) he sorts the whole evening - babysitters and all (b) can tell me who wrote it. I am finding DP's relentless philistinism v wearing, in truth).

I am beginning to realise there are bits of my domestic life that need tackling Sad

Oh MI :(

Here waiting on DBs test results - I have everything crossed......

cremolafoam · 20/01/2014 10:25

Fingers crossed BD.

bigTillyMint · 20/01/2014 13:21

Yes, fingers crossed.

motherinferior · 20/01/2014 13:27

(DP has sorted tickets and babysitter for theatre so am inclined to Forgive.)

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 20/01/2014 13:28

That's good MI! Shame we have to have a row with them for them to get their fingers out!

Blackduck · 20/01/2014 13:34

OMG MI!! Maybe I should try that on dp (who, despite the fact we are three weeks into the term still hasn't given me his diary....)

motherinferior · 20/01/2014 13:42

I did throw major wobbly yesterday about All The Stuff I Do, pointing out the wearingness of sorting out childcare etc. Today I am mostly waiting from the man from Beko, who will doubtless turn up just before I get DD2 (who can walk home on her own, but I like getting her!)

Any news, BD?

And thanks to CV, I am blissfully sporting a pair of Primarni fleece-lined leggings.

OP posts:
herbaceous · 20/01/2014 14:10

Good tactical wobbly, MI.

I have S&B news galore. I've just come back from Westfield, where I purchased Addle's gold skirt! As well as the most mental pair of mittens. I LOVE THEM.

And then, what's more, I went to Sweatshop and had my gait tested, some insoles made and bought some running shoes! Ladyjog, here I come.

Blackduck · 20/01/2014 14:15

Won't hear until tonight MI.

So that's the second gold skirt I believe (you and QQ), anyone else?

:)

herbaceous · 20/01/2014 14:25

I went for the 14, as I felt it wouldn't be enhanced by my VPL and cellulite.

lalsy · 20/01/2014 15:11

No gold skirt here, but at the other end of the spectrum I now own six Woolovers jumpers.....

motherinferior · 20/01/2014 15:14

Oooh, Lalsy, which?
