Hi,

I was thinking the other day about how important scent is in a product. I particularly hate the smell of palmers but I use it anyway because it really helps my scaly legs. Xmas Blush

What products do you hate the smell of?

OP posts:
bumbumsmummy · 08/02/2014 06:21

Yankee candles and the perfume poison, there was a smoker at work she used to pop out for fag n then spray it in the lift on the way up ConfusedConfused it was hideous

AmIatwat · 08/02/2014 06:26

KFC restaurants. Have to hold my breath as I walk by one.

hollyisalovelyname · 08/02/2014 08:38

Angel perfume . Aghh I feel a migraine coming on

itsbetterthanabox · 08/02/2014 09:06

Oh I love Thierry mugler Angel perfume! You are all wrong. I cherish my little bottle of it.

florascotia · 08/02/2014 10:32

Excellent link Frugal. Thank you.

Like so many other posters, I hate Angel perfume, also anything with heavy peach or other fruity or sugary smells, even Mitsouko. Dislike the smell of strawberries, and find the smell of blackcurrants or blackberries while cooking extremely unpleasant. Hate many Dior scents (especially Poison and Dune - though I used to love old-style Diorella). Joop and Lush and White Musk all seem overpowering. I dislike most scented candles and those tree-shaped car air fresheners, also scented detergents/household cleaners (especially mock apple); I buy unscented if possible, or citrussy.

Strongly agree with poster above who said hot meaty/spicy food on trains can be offensive.

On the other hand, I do like lemon, cloves, menthol-and-eucalyptus (in moderation) , dill, fennel, aniseed, parsley and coriander. And many 'green' perfumes, especially those containing galbanum. And some kinds of incense, especially myrrh and frankincense. And blackcurrant leaves, and cut grass.

Eliza22 · 08/02/2014 10:34

Pantene products. All of them. Went off them 13 years ago, when pregnant and to this day, if I get a whiff....I want to throw up.

Madamecastafiore · 08/02/2014 10:37

Anything vanilla.

Silly bully cow from hell used to come to school stinking of it.

Theoldhag · 08/02/2014 10:39

I really dislike plug in air freshener things, really make me feel suffocated, traditional hand made joss sticks and open windows are much nicer.

Also department stores that have lots of beauty products make me heave.

LoveIsTheDrug · 08/02/2014 10:44

Another Elnett hater here, it sticks in my throat.

Obv yy to any and all Lynx products

LoveIsTheDrug · 08/02/2014 10:46

Angel and most other gourmand type perfumes give me the heaves.

PaperBagPrincess · 08/02/2014 10:59

Lush products - just walking past the shop makes me heave.

That Body shop Hemp hand cream

Sickly perfumes like Paris, Angel etc

I had to stop using Trilogy rosehip oil because the smell made me feel sick.

I am super sensitve to smell, so really like using products with my own 'feel good' scents. Currently LOVE Neals Yard Bee Lovely mandarin & honey body lotion, Nivea Happy Time shower creme and Bamboo hair shine spray (yum).

Kikithecat · 08/02/2014 13:10

Elnette too Bishbo

Longdistance · 08/02/2014 13:16

Angel by Thierry Mugler.

Just so fucking strong, and Lush products. I just want to faint walking past that shop.

Snakebiteandblack · 08/02/2014 23:47

Clarins eau Dynamisante has a horrible musty undertone to it... Yeuch. Was gutted recently to try one of those pricey Jason shower gels (free of all noxious ingredients, all lovely and herbal etc). DH treated us to a massive bottle. Just smelled of mould.

bouquetofpencils · 09/02/2014 00:18

Clinique Aromatics Elixir. Can smell it 30ft away Hmm
Artificial vanilla - cloying yuk.
But I like 8hr cream, carmex, pink Mitchum and eau dynamisante Smile

TossedSaladsAndScrambledEggs · 09/02/2014 10:42

Any impulse smell reminds me of the smell of Bo as it was used liberally by girls I went to school with in lieu of washing. Same goes for lynx. Reminds me of teenage boys armpits and smelly feet.

LadyEloise1 · 24/02/2022 08:54

I hate the smell of:
Hope and Glory Heel Genius.
Palmers Cocoa Butter body lotion/ cream.
(Their Coconut one is gorgeous though).
Angel perfume.
Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream.
Any Pomegranate Noir - Aldi or JoMalone
Lancome Tresor
St Tropez tan can't remember which one.
Lime Basil and Mandarin
YSL Rive Gauche

Deathraystare · 01/03/2022 16:09

@TheLemonisinPlay

I do agree with the smell of Elnett. It is very rare that I use hairspray. Only when very windy. One day it was rather windy. I used L'heure Bleu perfume and sprayed my hair with Elnett. At 62 I finally felt rather grown up!!!

RampantIvy · 01/03/2022 16:35

Anything that smells of food. I don't want plum and cinnamon bodywash or apple scented soap or strawberry lipgloss. I want fresh scents or woody floral scents.

KylieCharlene · 01/03/2022 16:45

Radox stress relief and the muscle soak bath stuff. Something weirdly suffocating about them. I get a horrible claustrophobic feeling when I smell them.
Soap&Glory- horrible and cheap teenage smell. Very strong and lingers.
Britney Spears Circus perfume- pure sweat.
Calvin Klein Contradiction perfume- I squirted a lot on myself when it was first released - just before I went on a coach trip. I have never felt so ill in my life and I couldn't escape the smell of it.

CocteauTwin · 01/03/2022 18:29

I have very sensitive skin and dermatitis so can't use normal soap or shower gel. I bought an Oilatum soap bar in Savers a few months ago to try, as it is apparently good for those with skin conditions. It is hands down the most foul smelling product I have ever used.

CambsAlways · 01/03/2022 18:42

Cigarettes! Veet! Most fake tans! Soap & Glory! Germolene! The list goes on

CambsAlways · 01/03/2022 18:45

Oh and don’t get me started on some perfumes, Angel. Paris, youth dew! Anais Anais! All smells like fly spray to me 🤣🤣🤣

JaneJeffer · 01/03/2022 18:57

Zombie thread!

LadyEloise1 · 01/03/2022 19:49

@CambsAlways I hate those perfumes too.
