Hi,

I was thinking the other day about how important scent is in a product. I particularly hate the smell of palmers but I use it anyway because it really helps my scaly legs. Xmas Blush

What products do you hate the smell of?

Slug I'm with you re Angel scent. Even thinking about it and I can feel that awful migraine I got after a lady sprayed me with it in Boots.
Palmers Cocoa Butter- yuck. And I love chocolate.
8 hour cream.
Opium perfume, in fact all YSL perfumes.
Tweed perfume
Dr. Hauska Rose day cream.
I have an acute sense of smell unfortunately. Wish it was my sight sense that was acute... as it is a particularly unfortunate 'gift' to have when using public loos. Grin
Still it might have saved a life or two- i insisted there was a gas leak when the gas engineer's gadget for sensing gas leaks said there was no leak. THERE WAS!!! And my dh happily lighting cigarettes near the area daily.
The gas man said he'd bring me in his rounds in furure and leave the gas sensor gadget at home. Grin

Skin 79 hot pink BB cream, has a really overpowering old-lady scent!

Primadonnagirl · 30/12/2013 18:31

Victor and Rolf Flowerbomb...only jut discovered what this horrible smell is on every 20 year old woman... Including SdS ...it really makes me gag

Kernowgal · 30/12/2013 19:23

Angel - bleuuuuuuurgh. A friend used to wear it and it was foul. I also hate artificial vanilla scents - the real thing is fine.

I like coconut-scented products but again it has to be proper coconut rather than synthesised - far too sweet.

I LOATHE the smell of dill. Fennel is fine (love aniseed) but dill is the devil's own herb.

lifesgreatquestions · 30/12/2013 19:29

There's a cleaner that has bleach in it that leaves a weird smell on my hands that reminds me of manjuice. I don't use it anymore.

nomorecrumbs · 30/12/2013 19:42

Ooooh I love dill. I have only recently discovered it. It's so CLEAN!

My DM wears Angel. Cringe. She is the type of DM though who had a tattoo at 50 and a pierced belly-button. My BIL's clueless girlfriend commented that it smelt like a "mature scent". I was speechless.

Beaverfeaver · 30/12/2013 20:47

Anything sweet, coconut, almond, cocoa butter,

MmeGuillotine · 30/12/2013 21:02

Ooh, I love Angel. I only ever use it sparingly when I go out at night though - it's not for daytime use! I'm homesick for my native Essex so my husband bought me a bottle for Christmas to 'remind me of home'. ;D

The cosmetic smells that I most hate are Aloe Vera handwash, which smells just like butcher's shops to me (I'm a vegetarian so this is just super awful - but I don't weep over it à la Uncle Monty!) and Origins Mega-Mushroom serum, which smells absolutely DISGUSTING.

Oh and I also really hate the scent of the Bourjouis poudre de riz. It's horrible.

Allinafankle · 30/12/2013 21:43

Anything vanilla scented. Love vanilla ice cream but the artificial smell gives me the boak.

And not S&B related but Red Bull. Yeeuch!

learnasyougo · 30/12/2013 21:54

yy to lush and aussie hair care. too sickly and too strong.

BitOfFunWithSanta · 30/12/2013 22:08

I hate the smell of vanilla too.

And those tree-shaped car air fresheners- I have to take them down if I'm a passenger.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 30/12/2013 22:13

Lush products.
Body Shop Hemp hand cream - which is a shame because it's good if you can put up with the rank smell.
Aldi anti bacterial cleaner spray. I had to throw it away because it smells of cheap after shave.
Any of the massively strong perfumes my mil wears. I have to air the house when she leaves.

Mintyy · 30/12/2013 22:19

Heh heh. I love Body Shop hemp hand cream, but then I am officially an old tree-hugger who is addicted to the smell of patchouli. My perfumes are all patchouli based.

I have a bottle of patchouli oil and I shake a few drops on to a tissue and put that in the cylinder of my Dyson.

That's a tip I got from How Clean Is Your House that is Grin.

Can't bear vanilla scented anything. Or any scents that smell of sugar.

BornToFolk · 30/12/2013 22:29

I love Lush, although the shop is overwhelming. The products by themselves are fine though.

I hate Soap and Glory - too strong and sweet and also Carex handwash.

I also really dislike anything coconut scented or fruity (especially cheap, synthetic fruit scent, it just makes my nose hurt)

Lilymaid · 30/12/2013 22:35

Liz Earle Superskin range; Lush (bath bombs); Palmers Cocoa Butter; those scents of the 1980s that were musk/rose.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/12/2013 22:38

Lavender - hate it in any form. (I had lavender oil on my pillow when I woke with horrendous morning sickness so the smell has stayed with that horrible memory Envy

timidviper · 30/12/2013 22:42

Aldi face creams have a nasty, almost cherry-ish scent to them. Bleeurgh!

Also hate cocoa butter and most things that ought to be eaten rather than applied or sniffed

Bigbrassband · 30/12/2013 22:48

La Roche Posay. Smells stale and chemically.

Anything with Jasmine. Smells of urine.

Blackcurrant squash. Cat pee notes.

mewkins · 30/12/2013 22:49

Also perfume but I can't stand scents like Obsession and Angel. They make me feel sick and why do people insist on wearing so much of it?? Eugh

Ohfuckeryitsmarzipan · 30/12/2013 22:54

Another for Angel.
There is a fabric conditioner that is supposed to be Sunshine-my arse it is.
Clinique aromatics. Used to love it, until dh started coming home smelling of it that triggered morning sickness alright. Angry

LittleBoxes · 30/12/2013 22:58

Yep, Sanctuary stuff. Someone bought me an eau de toilette and it's vile. So I gave it to 7yo DD and she squirted it all over her bedroom, boak.

Love 8 Hour cream, though.

OneLittleLady · 30/12/2013 23:03

Weetabix. Seriously can't stand the smell of them and can't eat them either. Takes me straight back to utterly horrendous morning sickness

nbee84 · 30/12/2013 23:05

Cerruti 1881 - smells like perfume that has 'gone off'

absintherobette · 30/12/2013 23:07

alright then you picky bastards what scents do you like?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/12/2013 23:10

Scents I love - Badedas, Tom Ford Tuscan Leather (smells like old men in old pubs!), Carmex, T-Gel shampoo, Radox - the green one - basically anything that smells piney or tarry.
