I couldn't see that anyone else had started a new thread, after Stropps carelessly finished the old one without starting a new one, so here you are. Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin

love dashes and the Economist style guide but possibly over keen on ellipses...

like all the sale purchases but keep yearning after tartan tube skirts and slouchy jumpers in Topshop; think it must be nostalgia for the 1980s

started exercise again this week - not a moment too soon - creak from top to bottom. age showing

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/01/2014 23:25

I think I should weed my wardrobe rather than buy anything new. It's full of stuff I never wear.

Beachy, last time we went drinking cocktails before then straight to the table! I have booked a table AFAIK from 6pm, in my RL nameWink

I am also a fan of dashes (see below), and I amShock that you journo-types have to use enforced style guides for your writing.

Auriga, love the colour and collar - very cosy!

CV, love the dress and the jumper - I have had some great cashmere from Tesco's over the years. Shame it is the moths favourite munchSad
And I love tartan, particularly little kilts (way too old for them now) Haven't seen any tartan tube skirts recently - next big thing?

Yes, MrsS definitely weed your wardrobe of anything you haven't worn for a year and stuff that is too big!

Blackduck · 09/01/2014 08:30

Oh just caught up - bit highbrow here!

In the job stress before Christmas one of the things that irked me was that the head of HR was sending me emails without capital letters and no punctuation - let alone 'proper' sentences. Now I am all for a bit of informality, but not when you haven't started in a place - it's just unprofessional and I have to admit put me off a bit (and some!).

Here the battle is with practise/practice (I am English - we use both and they DO NOT mean the same thing.). I am also somewhat depressed that I work with people (who are educating other people) and they don't know what 'supplementary' means..... (rant over)

Auriga - nice coat!! Like Beachy, mine mainly consist of the 'dog walking' variety - I have one decent combie style coat which I suspect I can't get into now.

I am not going near scales or anything like that, but do need to lose some weight - 5:2 I feel, and some swimming - have sorted private pool.

bigTillyMint · 09/01/2014 08:42

BD, what did you finally decide on the job front?

Private pool sounds very swanky!

Blackduck · 09/01/2014 09:03

I stayed put - lots of reasons (including the dodgy emails...)

People near us have a pool - locals can use it for a small fee (to cover the maintenance/upkeep) It is a 3 minute walk and you get it to yourself ;) (includes running machine, rowing machine and sauna.....)

bigTillyMint · 09/01/2014 09:10

It's often better the devil you know! I am not a frequent job changer - only 3 in 26+years!

Fitness suite sounds good! I am off for a spa day with friends on Saturday - so looking forward to it (despite having been in a hotel with spa over Christmas!)

Blackduck · 09/01/2014 09:16

Ahh I have had rather more jobs in my time ;) I tend to get bored about three years in...... but hoping a secondment/promotion might come up here that I can go for....

motherinferior · 09/01/2014 09:27

I have Ladyjogged again.

bigTillyMint · 09/01/2014 09:31

I can honestly say that i have never been bored in any of my jobsGrin

ladyjogged!

QueenQueenie · 09/01/2014 11:12

Why has our thread dropped of the list of S and B threads? Why doesn't it appear in my "Threads I'm On"? I thought maybe we'd been pulled for too much inappropriate talk about parentheses and elipses..
Is it personal or are others in the same boat?

Stropperella · 09/01/2014 11:50

I can see you in S&B, QQ :)

Stropperella · 09/01/2014 11:50

And it's still in my "Threads I'm On"...

motherinferior · 09/01/2014 11:52

Nah, 'sjust you, innit. Grin

herbaceous · 09/01/2014 11:57

Sorry QQ - it's entirely personal.

Despite not paying nursery fees any more, my bank account is in a parlous state. So no new wardrobe additions for a while. Though, frankly, I do have enough.

Well, nothing apart from a sale bargain from Selfridges. I've still got £45 on my gift card to spend. Hmmm...

motherinferior · 09/01/2014 12:03

I am being driven to despair by clients Grin

wilbur · 09/01/2014 12:19

I am also not Sale buying this year, apart from mascara and 2 new pairs of shoes for ds1's japanese knotweed feet, as bank account has flatlined and will continue to due to an expensive year coming up with building work, MIL's 70th, PIL's Golden Wedding and new school uniforms for both dd and ds2. It's going to be carnage and neither dh or I will get a pay rise this year either. Another reason to be enthusiastic about pulses, I guess.

Crem - I like that F&F jumper but I can see one would need to size up, it looks a bit snug on the model.

motherinferior · 09/01/2014 12:50

I've just noted a school trip that DbloodyP we rashly agreed to send DD1 on. A small, not so bank-breakingly expensive one as the other bloody one she's going on, or the one that her sister's going on, but when do I get to go away, eh???

He's off to do t'ai chi tomorrow, btw. Allegedly feeling sentimental about how much he's going to miss us Hmm

Blackduck · 09/01/2014 12:58

I did (despite promising myself not to) buy a jumper in the sales in M&S - long, merino, grey number which I like very much.....

We have said no holidays this year for a number of reasons (including the fact dp has the mega big conference to organise).

I am contemplating putting in a paper for another conference

QQ - just you - you is special ;)

bigTillyMint · 09/01/2014 13:05

wilbur, I was thinking that about the jumper too!

Stropperella · 09/01/2014 13:23

I have purchased a nice warm cable knit cardie from Seasalt. It is orange. I think it is possible that I look like a Halloween pumpkin, but I don't care. Grin
My hormone levels appear to be dropping by the hour. Every time I pass a mirror I look more shrivelled. I am also feeling old following a small virtual spat with a "work associate" on FB. I don't usually bother engaging with these sorts of things, but, honestly, young people these days. Grin So bloody full of themselves. Grin Always thinking they know everything. Gah.

Beachy, how are you going to re-train your chickens? Grin They are clearly very norty. I have just given up trying to contain mine in a run during the day and they are now free-ranging in the bottom half of the garden, which is not what I really wanted but they were fed up with the mud in their run and kept jumping out. I will now have to move their fence so it is keeping them out of my vegetable and herb garden rather than keeping them in their mud-run, but I'm giving them a few weeks to weed and fertilise the garden first. :) I fear all the wildlife is not going to thank me for this new arrangement.

CointreauVersial · 09/01/2014 13:25

I ended up buying a 14 in the Tesco cashmere (normally a 10). It looks nice with a white shirt under too.

Oh yes, and I bought a few Boden bits too, once the prices had come down from the ridiculous to the reasonable. This jumper in emerald, this short-sleeved top in navy, this shirt in "Sandstone Etched Blossom", and these Bistro Crops in the blue leopardy print. The latter are a teeny bit tight in the size 10, so I am wondering whether to hang onto them in the hope that I will lose the Christmas podge in time for ankle-bearing weather, or bite the bullet and swap for a 12. I'm not in the habit of slimming into clothes generally.

motherinferior · 09/01/2014 13:34

Did you say long grey jumper, BD? I do wish you hadn't. I'm going to have to look now.

herbaceous · 09/01/2014 13:53

I like that Tesco one, but online there only seems to be size 8 left. Bum hole.

I've restarted the 5:2 today. It's not even two o'clock, I've already had lunch, and am STARVING.

motherinferior · 09/01/2014 13:55

You mean, on the 5:2, a snack...
