I couldn't see that anyone else had started a new thread, after Stropps carelessly finished the old one without starting a new one, so here you are. Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin

OK, my feeling re venue:

I like both. Tas is slightly more veggie-friendly, I reckon. BD aka Birthday Gurl is veggie and also likes sound of Tas. So I reckon Tas. Personally. With WBK next time.

Hattie, that sounds awful. I am so sorry.

Stropps, hope life is improving...?

Stropperella · 07/01/2014 10:23

Oh Beachy, not surprised you're not impressed. Hope your day gets better.

Hatty, I am Shock at the thought of how you must have felt when your erstwhile friends' political views came to light. It sounds like it's going to be very difficult to avoid those people, though. Tricky. And what a situation with your dd's missing earrings Sad. If there's one thing I have learnt in recent times, it is that children and teenagers often do self-destructive and out-of-character things when they are troubled, even though in everyday situations they don't behave as if they are "troubled" at all. Is there no chance that your friend's dd may have "borrowed" the earrings with a view to returning them later?

Lots of people here with flooded houses. Dd says she sees messages from people on FB "OMG, my house is full of water". And some of the villages are in a really bad way. Really feel for the people a few miles from here who have been evacuated. It was bucketing down again earlier this morning.

Dd went off to school this morning ok. I have been making sure to give her lots of extra hugs and cuddles for the last six months, as I think I maybe wasn't giving her enough before (I find it quite hard to give someone a hug when they are giving me grief, regardless of them being my child, I'm a very non-huggy person at the best of times). She and ds (and the dog) still come into our bed on Sunday mornings for cuddles. She's just not awfully grown-up for 15 and a half. Someone said to me yesterday "Oh what she needs is a boyfriend". Hmm Really?

Stropperella · 07/01/2014 10:23

x-posts, MI. :)

bigTillyMint · 07/01/2014 10:25

OK, so Tas it is! We should be able to sit and drink for a while till everyone arrives and then order food? What time shall I book for? 6pm or can people get there earlier?

motherinferior · 07/01/2014 10:27

In vaguely S&B news I would like it on record I am back running every other day. Though am not sure how I'm going to do this next week when DP is off doing hippy t'ai chi as it only really works if I zip off first thing in the morning.

hattymattie · 07/01/2014 10:35

Thanks for words of wisdom Stropps. I think this is indeed a troubled teenager given what's been going on with her parents. I've known her all her life and it is definitely out of character for her.

My troubles are however trivial compared to those with flooded homes. I cannot imagine much worse.

wilbur · 07/01/2014 11:50

I can come on 17th too! Won't be able to get there for 6, but maybe 7?

Hatty - sorry about your "friends", that is very difficult esp in an expat community. And re the earrings, if you know the other girl well, is there any way to have a gentle word with her directly, not with her dad around? If you promise not to tell her dad, she may 'fess up.

I have an S&B question to kick off the new year. I need a new mascara. Previous 2 were a freebie from dh's last job but one, and a mini one that came with a purchase of No7 face cream, so I feel I should pay for the next one and get one that actually helps me look nicer. I have rubbish eyelashes, and therefore don't want mega mascara full of fibres as they don't work - it's like trying to build the Eiffel Tower on sand. So I need gentle lengthening/darkening, plus staying power. Oh, and I am allergic to Lancome makeup (which everyone says is fabulous for mascara Sad).

motherinferior · 07/01/2014 12:11

The only ones that work for me are tubey ones - Clinique Lash Power is a good option.

Right, I have booked Tas from 6pm and warned them that we will be there for a while!Smile

HM, that's a v tricky one. Could you contact her directly and ask her if she noticed the earrings at all as they seem to have gone missing and your DD is really upset....? Maybe you won't get them back, but it might be a bit of a wake-up call IF it was her. And her dad needn't know?

Stropps, well done on the huggy front. And on the sharing your bedSmile And what she does NOT need is a boyfriend, as my DD will testify!

Rudy, glad your party was a success!

Blackduck · 07/01/2014 17:08

Someone will need to let me know where Tas is - I should get there early - I can recall what Herbs, BTM, QQ, Rudy, Stropps, MI and Beachy look like so as long as one of you are ther I'll be okay!!

Rudy - glad it went well Grin

herbaceous · 07/01/2014 17:10

Wilbur - I used to use clinique's 'naturally glossy' mascara, and it was v good. No fibres, claims to quadruple the volume of your lashes, or any of that nonsense.

cremolafoam · 07/01/2014 17:47

rudy, I also use navy mascara, but have a black clarins one that is fine and delicate on the eyes, for special occasions.Clarins wonder perfect

so sorry to hear of your 'guest' woes Hatty. That's a bit grim re the nicking of things. Sad

very sad not to be able to make the 17th, as could do with a day out. I have however put my back out. I think it is because my tummy muscles are , in effect, currently useless due to would, and I have been over compensating by using my back muscles. I am back to doddering and wailing every time I get up from a semi-recumbent posture.

in the meantime a stray cat strutted through the cat flap on New Years eve. Lovely little thing, but no chip . Have been social networking relentlessly this week trying to find his owner or indeed rehome him.
Epic fail so far and all the rescue places are FULL due to stupid present people. our two moggs are not happy one bit.

DD's exam is on Friday. please finger cross en masse. She is keeping her nose to the grindstone, but a little crepey magic might go a long way.Wink

hattymattie · 07/01/2014 17:56

Fingers crossed for your DD Cream. Springing French crepey fairy dustSmile Smile Hope your health improves soon and hope the two mogs become reconciled to one another.

addle · 07/01/2014 18:11

my fingers crossed too, crem. and hope you feel much better v soon and can join us next time.

hattie - if it's not typical is there any way at all of raising it which would allow her to return the earrings?

re venue, happy with anywhere

bigTillyMint · 07/01/2014 18:45

My fingers are crossed Cremo
You need to do some pilates or something to strengthen all your core muscles by the sound of it!

Will PM you, BD!

hattymattie · 07/01/2014 18:48

Addle - we used to see them all the time but now they are on one week at each parent and the DS's are no longer at the same school. I no longer see their mother as although we were friends, the main friendship was between our DH's, complicated. My DD's sometimes see this girl on the bus so it's highly possible it may come up there.

Auriga · 07/01/2014 18:53

Crem, my DH had this in reverse, he was over-working pelvic and abdominal muscles because of weak back and they got very sore.

I stumped up for private physio (NHS had long wait). He only needed two or three sessions, they gave him corrective exercises and he got relief immediately. Think it was £45 a session but worth it many times over.

Sad to hear about friends/earrings Hatty. Horrible to be disillusioned about friends like that.

Good to have meet-up in diary. I'm currently trapped in repeating cycle of sleepless nights and migraines. Was in jammies in front of fire by 6.30 this evening Grin

herbaceous · 07/01/2014 20:31

How simply thrilling! Location x3 is n my manor, and they filmed the opening interview in our local!

Shame the couples are so irritating.

wilbur · 07/01/2014 20:37
wilbur · 07/01/2014 20:39

Herbs - did I miss a meeting? Confused

wilbur · 07/01/2014 20:40

Oh - I just got it! Location, Location etc. That is exciting - I am off to watch now. Smile

wilbur · 07/01/2014 20:40

Although have just heard the fragrant Kirsty say £1.2 million! They've moved on from starter homes then.

cremolafoam · 07/01/2014 20:58

Oh what dithering couples!!!Although if I had £1.2 million to spend I would be a picky bitch too.Grin locationx3

As luck would have it my sisters Sil is a physio. I'm going to see her tomorrow. I literally cannot stand upright as it's too painful. Have read hysterectomy info that this is common . I have no core at all as a surgeon has cut them in twoSad
Going to try the pool as find Pilates useless as I have carpal tunnel too.
< falls apart >

cremolafoam · 07/01/2014 21:00

Sorry that came out as a big winge.
Thanks everyone for your kind suggestions. Thanks
