Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from here.

I loved that Gap sweater in powerful blue but the cut was too aware and it looks a bit mumsy on me so sent it back.

MickleMe · 21/11/2013 00:10

I'm convinced I'm a winter but I'm going to take the plunge and book a HoC analysis session so I can join in with confidence Smile

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 21/11/2013 12:04

Having trouble with reds.

Do you think this red cowl neck jumper from Tesco is the right sort of red? It is possibly slightly darker than the picture. Saw it today and wasn't sure. It looked okay on, but I mainly want the practice recognising the right colours.

Thanks all.

ElizabethBathory · 21/11/2013 12:11

On my screen it looks like a true red Face, so not orange or blue-leaning , so any season could wear it. It's v nice, I love red :)

carrie74 · 21/11/2013 13:26

Hi QueenC [stalker alert] have seen your pics via Pinterest and MNV I think - you're right - not typical winter.

Issy apparently hair colour doesn't really come into it. I think for me the easiest way to "see" the difference, at least between warm and cool, if no then the individual seasons, is to hold up bright white vs cream against your face - cream makes me look more sallow, but bright white is a favourite. I found that the most obvious difference on myself.

carrie74 · 21/11/2013 13:30

MickleMe on the whole I think I was getting it right, but actually having the palette now means I can add to it in complementary shades, and (hopefully) not make any more mistakes. Ironically, I thought I was an autumn, but wasn't really buying autumn colours, so for me, I took the plunge to determine if I needed to start wearing browns and rusts etc (and gee myself up to work out how much of my wardrobe I'd have to dump!).

Just bought this Lancôme lippie in 'prune' - sounds vile LOL. It's actually quite sheer and I love it with my charcoal cardi

Bought the Black Malva too :)

issynoho · 21/11/2013 16:37

carrie74 White is better on me than cream, so definitely cool.

ElizabethBathory How are those colours on me? Awful. I think I might be a summer. I'll close the door on my way out.

MissScatterbrain · 21/11/2013 16:40

interesting combination of colours

QueenCadbury · 21/11/2013 16:56

elizabeth thanks for the offer but I'm just not sure that the pink jumper has enough brightness or clarity for any winter. It's more muted and the more I look at it the more I think it's probably a summer colour. I'm going to take it to my style day and get my consultant to look at it. If it's wrong I may try and dye it a brighter pink.

Ah ok Queen, it's impossible to tell exact shades on a screen isn't it!

QueenCadbury · 21/11/2013 20:09

Yes it is. But also I find real life shopping a nightmare as the lights in shops look so different. The jumper looked fine in the shop and seemed to match the swatch ok. I think maybe though as it's been worn and washed it's kind of become a bit hairy which somehow makes it look more muted iyswim Confused.

I found that colour wheel video (by the lady who is definitely a winter!) really good. Seeing all the colours of all the seasons side by side makes it much more obvious than just having the winter swatches. My brain sometimes just sees 'bright blue' or 'purple' and translates it to a winter colour -but all the seasons have their purples and their bright blues and it's about identifying the exact shade, depth and clarity. It was also obvious how when she put a colour into its wrong season it immediately looked cheap and tired.

QueenCadbury · 21/11/2013 20:35

Tht video is excellent isn't it. My consultant taught me to hold clothes up to my swatches and see if it toned with them all or not rather than trying for exact matches. I could do with a summer swatch too as I think it's easy to stray into summer terroritry. I can usually tell ok whether something is warm or cool.

Tell me what purple nail varnishes you all have. I'm looking for something similar to the damson swatch but I find they are either too violet-y or too dark.

Purple nail polish - Barry M has a gorgeous one which is a deep purple and it looks smart (think its called vivid purple).

If you want a dark plum - Black Cherries by Rimmel is a good classic (similar to rouge noir).

Currently wearing Barry M's dusty mauve which comes out as a dark grey with a hint of purple. Great neutral colour and I love it Grin

QueenCadbury · 21/11/2013 21:05

Thanks miss. I have black cherries but it's gone all gloopy so need to replace and would prefer something a bit brighter.

Is Chanel Provocation too dark? I have it and it's amazing. I'm currently wearing OPI Muir Muir on the wall, it's lovely and sparkly. Have a look at Alllacqueredups gallery on her blog, you'll surely find what you're after there.

QueenCadbury · 21/11/2013 21:25

I love that nail blog. I think I may waste future hours of my life on there Grin

Barry M's red wine is more of a dark red...not quite burgundy so probably no good for you. The only polishes I have that are bright is a fuchsia that I used on holiday, again from Barry M. You will have guessed by now that I am fan of his polishes - cheap and these lasts 5-6 days and I love the colours.

If you ever want royal purple, butter London's HrH is like cadburys wrapping!
