Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from here.

I wouldn't have thought Kate Moss was a winter, she always looks honey blonde with warm skin to me - but it's impossible to tell as I'm sure she can look any way she likes by changing her hair colour and make up.

It does sound like we all look completely different doesn't it?! MissS, I've forgotten, are you a sultry winter with dark hair? I don't tan at all, ever, I burn in 5 seconds, and I get freckles in the summer. I'm not quite Celtic skinned though - my mum is (she's a winter with Courtney Cox-esque colouring) but I have some of my dad's eastern european sallowness.

Carrie that's a gorgeous jacket. If it's a greyish brown I'd still wear it, personally, but would add a big scarf in one of my best colours.

carrie74 · 20/11/2013 14:21

Actually, just browsing through my 2013 purchases board, and it's not too heinous. A bit of khaki and coral that should be disregarded, but loads of greys. I guess just need to start injecting some (of the right) colours.

carrie74 · 20/11/2013 14:24

Sorrel, I don't think this would be dark enough, but I think it's a lovely shape (very AH esque). I also love it in green.

I went to Gap this lunch time. Didn't buy anything as I don't really neeed anything but they had:

A gorgeous grey/fuchsia (almost hot pink) striped boat neck jumper
A thick, fluffy cobalt blue v-neck jumper
An emerald crew neck jumper
A shirt dress that comes in bright navy and light emerald

And it's 30% off all jumpers at the moment!

MissScatterbrain · 20/11/2013 14:46

Agree Kate Moss does not look like a winter, too soft I think.

Yes, I am a sultry winter with dark hair Grin I get freckled in summer too.

MissScatterbrain · 20/11/2013 14:49

Queen - Gap's emerald cardigan

ElizabethBathory · 20/11/2013 14:52

Link to the fluffy v neck - it comes in fuchsia too (would people call that fuchsia? Or is it hot pink or something else? Lovely colour in the flesh, vivid without being neon)

Can't find links to the other things. They also had this navy/black stripe skirt, which is tempting me but looks a bit too short.

MissScatterbrain · 20/11/2013 14:55

I saw that pink jumper last week -it did feel lovely.

KosherBacon · 20/11/2013 16:48

Can I ask what you winters are doing about grey hair? My hair is naturally dark, and when I dye my hair (with a graphite toner in to keep it cool) I end up with a warm red tone to it within weeks. I've tried different brands, lower strength developer on my ends than to my roots and I still get the warmth. Obviously this is not winter friendly. I'm sorely tempted to go grey gracefully as it's only a dusting, but an not sure I am brave enough.

What do the rest of you do?

ElizabethBathory · 20/11/2013 17:02

Have you tried Aveda Black Malva shampoo and conditioner Kosher? It gets rid of the red tones. I've mentioned it on MN about a bazillion times so apologies if I'm just repeating myself. I don't have any greys yet. Am 31 so I'm guessing they'll start to arrive soon and I'm hoping I won't mind them too much. I bet I will though Grin

50hoo · 20/11/2013 17:10

I'm interested in the Black Malva too Elizabeth as my hair is like kosher's Just had it done today and as I use Aveda colour conserve thought I'd figure in the Black Malva conditioner as a weekly hair mask.

Once you start dyeing brown hair as it greys the golden highlights come in - courtesy of the grey hairs where the colour is lighter.

MissScatterbrain · 20/11/2013 17:15

Second the recommendation for Black Malva. I use it a couple of times a week - and as well as toning down the red, it helps keep the dye going for longer in between dye jobs.

50hoo · 20/11/2013 17:30

Thanks for that miss will pick some up tomorrow

bettybigballs · 20/11/2013 17:38

Thirding Black Malva - it's amazing stuff. use the shampoo everyday and then I use the conditioner every 3/4 days and leave it on for about 20mins. the conditioner seems to have more darkening properties iyswim.

KosherBacon · 20/11/2013 17:39

I have black malva but it's not cutting the mustard at all. It doesn't condition that well and it's only a slight reduction in the red tones.

My hair has changed since having DS a year ago and my previous HG stuff isn't working. I used to love Kerastase ciment thermique, Biolage conditioning balm and now my hair looks dull whatever I try.

50hoo · 20/11/2013 17:48

Does the shower end up splattered in brown shampoo spots? John Frieda do a brunette one as well - any takers?

issynoho · 20/11/2013 17:50

Is this the right place to come if I think I might be a Winter but really have no idea?

Mucky blonde hair (was very blonde as a child, loads darker since the DCs), pale skin under freckled face with red/high colour on cheeks. Blue-grey eyes. I would say def cool toned (ie blue veins not green).

Have also horribly lost my way with clothes, style, fashion, exercise, what I actually like, etc, since DC. Any help gratefully appreciated Smile

ElizabethBathory · 20/11/2013 17:55

Agree its not very conditioning Kosher. I alternate it with better conditioners and a weekly coconut oil mask. Also I use about twice as much as I would a normal conditioner and leave it on for 10 mins.

Pufflemum · 20/11/2013 18:18

I too went to Gap today. I got a lovely scarf in red, black and fuschia, bizarrely I had a green jumper on and they actually looked good together! A month ago I would of sniggered at the thought of the combination. I also got the emerald jumper and treated myself to a Plum coloured Chanel mascara which I have been recommended.

Going to order the Aveda now as I have just returned to my natural dark brown colour after terrible highlights and don't want them to start coming through as the dye fades.

KosherBacon · 20/11/2013 19:36

I forgot to ask, who had the Pinterest board of makeup for sultry winters?

QueenCadbury · 20/11/2013 19:49

Just popping in quickly before i go out.

sorrell I've just done extensive research into grey bags. For charcoal look at zara and mint velvet although they may not be dark enough. Sorry, no time to link.

That gap emerald cardi is the colour of the turtleneck which I bought but returned as the colour didn't seem quite right on me. It seems to match the swatch but didn't make me look fabulous which as one of my best colours it should.

carrie if you pm me your email address I'll send you a photo of me then you can see I'm not a typical winter either.

Catch up tomorrow.

Pufflemum that's exactly the reason I bought the aveda in the first place :)

50hoo the John Frieda one is nice but doesn't deposit any colour as far as I could tell. The aveda is dark purple so you get dark purple splashes in the bath ;) It comes off though.

ElizabethBathory · 20/11/2013 22:11

Hi Issy, we won't be able to tell from a description. You dont sound like a typical winter but that doesn't mean you're not one. What colours do you feel great in? How are you in black, grey, cobalt blue, emerald, royal purple, fuchsia etc?

ElizabethBathory · 20/11/2013 23:10

Queen re. your pink jumper, that pink works really well on me. Gap's powerful blue otoh is a bit too bright for me. So maybe the pink jumper is better on sultries? What size is it? Maybe I can swap you it for something!

ElizabethBathory · 20/11/2013 23:20

Ooh, I have a size 10 forest green Hobbs cardi that I never wear (worn once), if you're interested?
