Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from here.

Thanks missscatterbrain I think I need to get to some shops too. I wore a pink cardigan which must have been ice pink on my wedding day (I was surprised I could get away with it as thought I couldn't wear pale colours) so I will take that along for comparison too.

Fooogle · 03/03/2014 19:43

usedto I think I'll keep a cardigan or two from landsend but I ordered quite a few to match colours.

Butterfly jumper looks like it may be slightly peachy? I'm having real trouble finding ice colours, lots of pastels but v few ice ones,..
House of fraser linea seemed to have good winter colours when I walked past it at the weekend by the way...

Used2bthin · 03/03/2014 19:54

Yes it could be a bit peachy couldn't it. They had a very very pale blue jumper that I mistook for white which I am going to look at although I am not convinced I could ever wear any shade of pale blue.

Will have a look at Linea online now, can't actually buy anything till I have decided about the lands end and woolovers stuff but have got dorothy Perkins and m and s vouchers so should really go to look at shops soon, maybe next week. How were the cardigans size wise from lands end? I am hoping they are generous as I ordered 10-12 and am very definitely not a ten.

Fooogle · 04/03/2014 04:24

Size wise I ordered 10-12, I'm a twelve most of the time. They are fine, not generous but think 14-16 would be huge on? Hope they come soon for you! I never have much luck with trousers at all. Best fit are wide legs to accommodate my funny old hips... Let us know how the lands end ones are

Used2bthin · 04/03/2014 12:00

Thanks that is good to know it sounds like we are a similar size. Even down to the hips, I really struggle with trousers and am possibly in between a twelve and fourteen at the moment. Will let you know when it all arrives!

Clavicle · 04/03/2014 16:58

Hi, I'm a sultry winter and exhausted (as hopefully cleverly put it!) with my bright/strong/shouty colours.

Looking for ideas of what to wear for Spring/Summer tat isn't forest green and indigo.

Hopefully suggested stone on my bottom half which is good (although consultant said no stone or mole but it's away from my face) so what goes on top?

I'd like the blazer/jeans look (is that alright at nearly 50?) and dresses/skirts.

Help!

Used2bthin · 05/03/2014 11:55

Oh no the woolovers cardigan doesn't suit me at all! I am not that well which doesn't help but it seems to make me look decidedly yellow and is not deep enough a pink for me.

As this was close to a swatch colour for a few of you does this mean I am not actually a winter after all?

MissScatterbrain · 05/03/2014 12:50

Used - remind me please what kind of winter you are and if you were diagnosed by HOC. Not all winters look great in all of the colours in their palette.

Used2bthin · 05/03/2014 13:45

Not been diagnosed as one but have been pretty sure I am a jewel winter from what I have read.

I can wear fuchsia but this just wasn't a strong enough colour for me (rich rosé at woolovers) and doesn't work at all.

I am also having to send back the chinos from lands end as I can't squeeze my stomach into the,! Feeling a bit down about my looks today, too tired to shift the weight I have gained. The emerald cardigan from lands end is perfect though and I a, going to order a bright pink one too if there are any left.

Fooogle · 05/03/2014 14:03

Used2. Glad at least the cardi is ok. Trousers are a minefield!
Haven't got any rich rose I'm afraid so not much help there.

When I dye two cashmere cardi's what would you choose as most useful? one black and one dark green or navy and dark green (or black I suppose)? Could try Fuchsia pink but worried it won't be quite right, seems more variable somehow! I double star in navy at 100 or 75% I think. Black 50% and pine green actually not so much but I like the idea of it!

Fooogle · 05/03/2014 14:03

Pine green * at 50%...

Fooogle · 05/03/2014 14:08

Hope you feel better usedtobe

MissScatterbrain · 05/03/2014 14:27

Rich rose is the same as raspberry I think - its a good one on me but shocking pink isn't as good so maybe its the other way round for you?

Great to hear the emerald cardi is a keeper though.

Re dying - I would think the darker dyes have a better chance of success. With cashmere, I would play safe and go for navy...

Used2bthin · 05/03/2014 15:53

I would do navy too I think (but that may be because that's the only one I have ever tried!)

Thanks foogle I am a bit better but shattered after very little sleep.

Yes perhaps its just variations in winters missscatterbrain. I have ordered a bright pink and a blue lands end cardigan anyway to cheer myself up! You can never have too many bright cardigans!?!

Clavicle · 05/03/2014 17:14

Hello! Hmm

Fooogle · 05/03/2014 17:57

Sorry clavicle not got any amazng suggestions I'm afraid! I'm also terrible stinge so only window shopping usually!
Blazer sounds good? Can you do white? Nautical?!

MissScatterbrain · 05/03/2014 18:43

Sorry Clavicle - I think the blazer and jeans thing is easy to pull off for winters with so much navy, black and charcoal around. I like dresses and skirts and again I tend to buy these in dark colours as well. Breton tops are another favourite of mine.

As I said on another thread, bright colours when used in accessories, shoes, jewellery, lipsticks and nail polishes should look great.

I am currently wearing a new stripey long sleeved t shirt from the Gap with a fine knit burgundy jumper (Hush) and indigo jeans along with burgundy nail polish. Not very spring like but it will do.

MissScatterbrain · 05/03/2014 18:48

Clavicle - where do you usually shop? Would it would be easier to go to a department store so that you can see what's around under one roof. Have you tried Boden? They always have jackets and jeans. I tend to buy things from a real mixture of stores - the Gap, Phase Eight, Boden, H&M & Primark (great for cheap layering tops).

rosein if you have a rummage round you may find my waffle about previously being a spring for years after being CMB d. I have taken some convincing about being a winter but think I agree now. So it can happen the other way round?
Have you been back to speak with your consultant? Asked to double check?

Clavicle · 05/03/2014 19:51

Thanks. Will look at John Lewis. Bought some black and navy linen trousers from Next today. I can see that I will end up only in the neutrals, the brights are way OTT for me.

MissScatterbrain · 05/03/2014 20:16

I think you need time to get used to wearing a bit of bright colour - its like the new red sofa analogy, it takes time to get used to it.

Rose - this is why I think its so important that the consultant ensures you can "see" your season, otherwise how will you go shopping for clothes in your new palette. I would go back and ask her to show you again, explaining your doubts and concerns.

Fooogle · 06/03/2014 21:40

usedto did you dye some thing cashmere? Just used my one hour child napping window to basically not dye a cardi! Nothing blooming happened! Sad

Ordered some weird old hoc lippies from eBay yesterday and what I hope is a grey liberty shirt... Trying to replace my spring toned ones. Lots of eBay fails at the moment though. So hard to judge colours online but I can't stop "just" giving it a whorl Blush.

Used2bthin · 06/03/2014 22:07

Oh no sorry I dyed Cotton stuff I think (the top I still have is cotton anyway)

I wore the emerald lands end cardi today with a navy blouse and grey trousers (to work) , really love the emerald colour it was perfect. Hope the blue and pink ones I ordered will be as bright.
